Strength:

great bass and a great price

Weakness:

none that i have found yet

My system is
BA VR970 fronts
BA VR950 rears
BA VR10 center
BA PV600

I have always been impressed with Boston products in the past. I went looking for a sub to give an extra kick with my fronts. The PV600 performs very well. It is very small with a 10inch woofer and it gives strong powerful bass. I got a good deal only $392 on sale. I also looked at the PV800 it is also a great sub but it was more expensive and I think it may be over powering for my system. For the out put of bass, the price, and the size the PV600 is a great sub. I would recommend this sub to anyone who is looking for great price and is looking not to spend a lot of money.

Strength:

Front mounted sub level control, phase switch, workmanship quality, and performance.

Weakness:

none

I'd been in the market for nearly 4-months to decide on which sub to buy under $500. After careful auditioning of different brand including JAMO, B&W and Mirage, this sub really got my attention performancewise. It blends very well with my Jamo 68 main, Jamo 18 center and B&W DM302 surrounds. For music, this product provides excellent bass that is tight but not too boomy. On DVDs the low frequncies are very well handled, without any trace of distortion even at high levels. The front level control is very accessible especially when listening to music. Other features that pleases me are the phase control switch, variable x-over, auto power, manual on-off switch(not available in the earlier models). This is a real value for money, I could have settled for a B&W or the Jamo because of my current set-up but this BA-sub really swayed my decision. My only complaint...this thing drives my neighbor crazy!

Strength:

Blends well with my system, awesome bass extension that seems to come from my other speakers, but it wasn't there before.

Weakness:

I'd like to see a power switch, but I'm not going to buy something else to get it.

My first subwoofer was a passive 10" with 10" passive radiator. After powering it with its own separate amplifier just didn't cut it anymore I went auditioning powered units. I first looked at Velodyne and JBL, but not wanting to rush things, I listened to Polk, and Klipch as well trying to find something I could live with that wasn't much over $300. While at Magnolia, the sales person asked if I would like to hear the Boston Acoustics PV600 at $450. I didn't want to spend that much, but when I heard it, I couldn't rationalize not buying it. It was so sweet sounding. I waited another week or two, when they had a Grand Opening of a new store and dropped the price to $400. I wanted to listen to it in the new store in a different position, different sales person. He put on a DVD with jets flying overhead, and the whole room was inundated with shaking thunder. He was new at the store and had never heard that subwoofer before. He said to me, I was waiting for it to break up, and it never did. When we were done, he thanked me for showing it to him, and of course I bought it. When ever I go in there, he tells me, I sold some more of them PV600's. Every time I watch a movie, I'm sold again that I made the right choice.

Strength:

Produces low bass to 25Hz!

Weakness:

Sensitive volume control.

The Boston Acoustics PV-600 is a lot of subwoofer for the money. I tested it with test tones and a Radio Shack sound level meter, and it produces honest bass down to 25Hz!

It has lots of input options, and I particularly liked the "bypass" RCA jack that I use from my A/V receiver (a Denon). I like less processing for better sound.

It is a good sub for home theater and organ music, but I don't think it's a good one for music in general. However, I don't think ANY sub less than a thousand bucks sounds good to me for music, so....

I had a difficult time integrating the sub with my Dynaudio Audience 40's, I think mostly because it is quite far away from the main speakers (room constraints) and so there is a fair amount of cancellation at specific frequencies. But what made it harder was the rather sensitive volume control on the front. A small nudge, and I would have just a bit too much bass, or too little. To give you an idea how sensitive I am, I find the Denon's +/-1dB subwoofer steps too coarse!

On the whole, I am quite satisfied with the PV-600's performance, given my fussy nature with bass (FYI, I've not found the perfect $2000 speakers that satisfies my criteria for good bass). I'm giving these subs 4 stars for overall rating.

Strength:

Small Footprint, Volume Knob on front, Polarity switch

Weakness:

None for this price range

I have been using it know for some time before giving it a review. I purposely listen with DVD's and Music CD's. After taking some time for the placement and adjusting the controls (both on sub and receiver) I am very pleased with the PV 600. The bass is tight and punchy but resonates just fine as well. For me it is better sounding then Paradigm and Klipsch.

I am not a over-the-top bass man. Bass needs to lay a foundation whether you listen to movies or music. This sub does both well. I use the sub's crossover and have it set to about 88 with the polarity switch to 180 and the volume to 2 for DVD's and 1.5 for Music.

If you are trying to decide on a great sub for a great price, look no further.

Strength:

tight, clean bass

Weakness:

cheap volume knob (not the location, just the knob!)

Please disregard the review that is posted below this one. I accidentally cut and pasted a review for the Def. Tech. ProSub 80 into my review of the Boston PV 600.

Awesome. After spending an hour listening to subs, I chose this one. I could hear every note from bass guitars and real basses (I listen to smooth jazz). I compared this sub to a $600 M&K and could hear no difference. Sure, the 12" M&K can shake you more, but the bass of both units was clean and accurate. However, the PV 600 will shake you too! One of the great features about the PV 600 is that it will never bottom out. That's because Boston subs have a feature called "basstrac" which monitors the input signal and never supplies the sub with more power than it can handle. Hence, the sub will never distort or blow out. Another great feature is the placement of the volume knob, which is on the front. Trust me, you'll have to adjust the volume for each CD you listen to because every CD is engineered differently and it's nice to NOT have to reach behind the unit to do so. Check this sub out.

pv-600 and vr-10 were a gift and got both for 636.00 .I listened to the pv-800 and with 10k system and was blown away. The fighting scene in dragon heart with the dragon's tail hitting the ground and the flight scene when the dragon has made a deal with dennis quaid sold me on the pv-800 but i needed a center channel and walked away thinking "these two pieces will go back to the store and I'll have to get the 800 ...I never had my neighbors complain before and i got my first visit .My poor atlantic tech pbm-162 is totally outclassed and i thoght of running both of them but don't want to drive my neighbors crazy. System : onkyo ts 575, sony kv32 fs-12, toshiba sd-2109 dvd, fisher studio 24cd-player,technics rstr-355 cass and a nec 958u vcr that's still kicking with some yamaha 638's for the main's and rears..changing to the vrs pro's and the vr-950's soon.......am very pleased so far

Price and Performance.

Weakness:

Would have like to have a on/off switch with the auto on/off. But who's complaining.

Very clean, tight bass. Not overpowering at all. Smooth and punchy. Goes great with my CR8's. Great price for a 10" sub.

Very nice looking, deep bass for a smaller sub, clean and musical

I just bought this sub for my home theater and am very pleased with the sound. I wasn't sure if it would be enough, but the PV-800 was almost 300 dollars more. I took it home and have no regrets about not getting the bigger model. I use it in a fairly large living room (22'X16') and it pumps out plenty of bone jarring lbe and sounds excellent with music as well. Sounds tight and distortion free. My system is all BA:

CR-9 Front
VR-10 Center
CR-6 Surround
Marantz SR-8000

I would not hesitate to recommend this sub to anyone looking for something compact, inexpensive (I paid 435) and musical.

This is really a great Sub for movies with DD DTS sound. I am useing it with a Yamaha 795a and Boston CR7 for the Fronts and the Boston Micro 90's for the Rears. And a polk Center Channel. With this setup I get movie theater sound in my living room. DD DTS beats the hell out of Pro Logic!!
