HAVING LIVED WITH THE INFRA SUB FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, I HAVE COME TO THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSIONS. IT IS NOT UGLY, BLENDS SEAMLESSLY WITH MAIN SPEAKERS,PLAYS UNGODLY LOUD WITH NO BOOM OR OVERHANG, MY EARS GAVE UP BEFORE THE SUB DID,IT IS BIGGGGG, THE MIRAGE BPS 400 HAS MORE OUTPUT AS DOES THE BW ASW3000 BUT YOU PAY A PRICE, BOOM OVERHANG HONKING, POOR INT WITH MAIN SPEAKERS.AND VERY POOR ON MUSIC. THE 8,000 DOLLAR REVEL IS A BETTER SUB AS IS THE VELOYDYNE FSR 18 BUT IF YOU WANT A SUB THAT CAN ROCK, SOUNDS FANTASTIC ON MUSIC THERES NOT MUCH COMPETITION. THAT IS AT 1,099.00 FROM REFERENCE AUDIO, GREAT COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH. KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY GUYS AND GALS

I finally bought the infrasub-18 after listening to it in several audio stores around the country. I use it mostly in playing classical
and pipe organ music and am very pleased with it's performance.
Can't compare it to many other subs but I give it a 5 star rating.

I bought this sub after listening to a few, and auditioning the REL Q100e at home. The REL was very good, and integrated well with my system in my room. However, the InfraSub integrates even better, and has more depth, punch and quickness. Although the seating is not that far from the sub, it is a large room (eating area/living room layout) and this sub easily provides room shaking bass on HT material, but more importantly sounds great with 2-channel music, from classical (haven't tried pipe-organ) to Rock to Rage Against the Machine. This has been a tremendous addition to my system, providing all the bass extension that my Hales Revelation Ones could not. This is a tremendous product for any price, but especially so considering the sub $2k price tag.

The infrasub is the absolute best steal when it comes to subs!!!! Ive listened to the sub in my home now for 3 months and the sound just keeps getting better. With the lowest possible frequency response in the verrrrrry BEST sub made. The tightest sub Ive heard by far and its an 18!!! All I can say is grab one as soon as you are able.I would consider it the best thing I ever did for my Music and Movies. I tried out other subs ie velodyne. Not even all the money in the world would buy a better more musically accurate sub. Kudos to Bag End.

I've auditioned the Paradigm Servo-15, B&W 800ASW, KEF 45DM and Mirage (?)and easily decided on the Bag End. Without a doubt, it was the most musical sounding Sub I heard.
Never got a chance to review the Velodyne ( out of my $ range )but I was totally enthralled by the Infrasub. The Paradigm and Mirage definitely had more punch, and the B&W would of been less irritating ergonomically, but Music was my main concern. I have an HT setup with Von Schweikerts all around, and I get more than enough oomph as the lizard walks buy.

Keep in mind, took me more than week to get it placed just right (rear corner).

Strength:

incedibly fast bass response

Weakness:

huge, homely, cheesy spring clips, no remote, (but for under a grand!??)

I am using the Bagend in a two channel system consisting of all Meridian components, a 500 transport , a 518 and an Adcom D/A converter that I use to send the Bagend the converted D/A signal.

First the bad news, no remote , no balanced input , cheesy spring clips, for passing the mid /highs to your mains, and it is big and not shiny! But,remember its only a grand , not 3 like the HGS Velodyne ..Anyhow, I knew the specs going in from doing the standard research about the Infrasub online so no huge surprise or disappointments. I was looking the most musical sub i could find and according to most of the reviews this was the one. I had listed to the Velo HGS series, BK, Sunfires, Mirage, HSU etc....they all seemed a little loose for my musical tastes , i am sure they would all do fine for Dinosaur footsteps..but music?..

Now for the great news... My Meridian DSP 5000's are (for my ears) a very 'fast' speaker..I love them and by themselves they have respectable output down to the mid 30's In looking for a sub i wanted something that was as 'fast'..i wanted kick drum to hit me in the chest and to feel a low E on a bass guitar. The Bagend fresh out of the box rocked my house apart and blended perfectly!(to repeat a quote i always read about this sub...'it was seamless') Track 2 on the Contact soundtrack begins with a tympani roll that I thought was going to shake my house apart and psyco-acoustically it seem to come from the Meridians by themselves..it was that seamless!!!...this is an amazingly fast sub. I have played with it now for a month, finally got the perfect placement(which also means you cant see it, remember its huge and not a "furniture peice"). It has never overheated or shown any kind of sound degredation, and I have played the daylights out of it ...Check out 'Heavy fuel' on Dire Straights 'on Every Street' and the first cut on Totos Kingdom of Desire Disc...it will blow you away...kick drum punch from heaven!! For around 1000.00(Kenosha music center in WI)...I dont know about home theatre but on music I dont think you can beat this sub for 3 times the dough ...just put a nice plant in front of it .

ps
the guy at Bagend actually e mailed me twice with directions and suggestions for setting it up with my Meridians...great service , killer product!

Strength:

Deep, powerful, articulate bass. Blends extremely well with
my PSB Stratus Goldi's.

Weakness:

I suppose some might think it large, but I think it looks
great.

The sub sounded great right out of the box, and did well
in every position I tried. When I got it in the "sweet spot",it was pure magic... heart stopping articulate bass,
kick drums sounded like they were "right there" live; bass was crystal clear. Most importantly it vanished completely, and NEVER called attention to itself.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Strength:

Sounds great until weakness (see below) kicks in

Weakness:

Processors located inside back panel heat up after playing music at a decent level, then sub starts to clip out intermittently, until it is turned off. Very embarrassing when hosting parties for a "one of the best on the market" subs to fail at normal listening volumes.

I build custom hardware for a sound system dealer who only uses Bag End. He really played up the quality of the Infra-Sub. How disappointing. So I call Bag End 'tech support', and this moron tells me to remove the back panel, and turn the thermosensor UP. Brilliant, so now it will let the processors heat up MORE, maybe burn them up and render the whole thing useless. No mention of sending it back or repair under warranty. Now I've put a small computer fan to remedy the problem, but it only gives a few more minutes of life before it starts to clip again. I wouldn't recommend Bag End or their products to anyone!

Strength:

When properly set up; devastating bass.

Weakness:

Out of control if not tuned perfectly. Needs to be set at correct volume. See review.

In an ideal world, you would have two Revel 15" subs. Amongst the best I've heard with the Krell sub. In the real worl you should have 2 Bag End subs, both adjusted to the correct, low volume. If you do that, you will have the most impressive, bone crunching bass imaginable, without the annoying rumbling. I only have one Bag End 18". This may be a problem. When I turn the volume down to maybe 1/5 th of its capability, it is outstanding. Real SOLID bass without the overhang. But I need more to get the same sound characteristic, with more sheer power. If you are reasonable with the volume setting, you can really be floored by what this can do. My Velodyne F 15" subs with remotes, two of them, did not compare to one of these. Buy two and never worry about bass again. 5 star rating if two are used.
