B&W ASW 600 Subwoofers

B&W ASW 600 Subwoofers

DESCRIPTION

The 250mm (10 in) driver employs an extremely rigid cone to withstand the considerable forces generated by dynamic bass signals and the integral 150W amplifier, features our Bass Overload Suppression System circuitry to avoid the annoying distortion effects that might normally occur should some unexpectedly loud signal threaten to overload the subwoofer. The ASW600 can accept both line level and speaker level inputs and has a choice of equalisation, enabling the response to be tailored to your room.

Strength:

1. EXTREMELY clear bass 2. Loud if you want it to be 3. Compact size

Weakness:

1. Slightly expensive for an entry level sub.

I wanted a sub to complete my system. I watch a ton of DVD's and listen to quite a bit of music (jazz, punk rock, hip-hop). I auditioned several subs ranging from about $250 to around $500. I tried out the JBL PB10. It wasn't very clear, but it was able to put out loud boomy bass. Next I tried out Polk's 8 in. PSW303 and 10 in. PSW404. The PSW303 was weak. It would bottom out at only modest sound levels. The PSW404 was a bit better, but still wasn't as clear as I would have liked. I also listened to the Velodyne 8 in. CHT8. Once again... overpriced and way too weak for my tastes. Not very musical. I next tried a Boston Acoustics 10 in. PV600. It sounded "boxy". Too much "thump" for me. I finally tried out B&W's 8 in. ASW300 and 10 in. ASW600. I thought the 10 in. B&W sounded incredibly musical. I live in a medium sized apartment where the kitchen is connected to my living room. Its very open. The B&W sub managed to fill the room with ease. I turn it only a quarter of the way up and it shakes the room. If your looking for a sub that is clear, fast, and loud, I think you could do worse than the B&W ASW600.

Strength:

Strong base. Easy set-up.

Nice sub. I got this one as a gift but it was a fine match for my B&W CM-2's. It took some tuning but now my system sounds perfect. The sub has become transparent. (I have not always been a fan of subs) I'm glad I got this one because it does the job just fine and I would have spent a lot more for no reason.

Strength:

Great with music, adjustable crossover and gain, different EQ switch for music / movies. Phase reversan switch.

Weakness:

I thought my existing speakers were pretty good at producing low frequencies... but now i can clearly see i was wrong. This sub is awesome, and the best thing about it is it sounds great with music! I listened to lots of subs before giving up the idea of buying one. 2 months later i heard this one going... 2 days later i owned one. It plays very deep and clear.

Strength:

Beautiful, addicting basses

Weakness:

I was very impressed by this sub. Before buying, I thought my good old B&W DM330's (serving as front speakers in my new HT setup, mostly used for music) already were very good in low range. Couldn't get much better, I thought. But I was wrong. It is smashing and adds a whole new dimension to me. The ASW600 produces VERY low, steady and powerful basses I never heard before.

It's my first, but I heard and compared a lot of subs in stores.

Strength:

At $500, this is a great value

Weakness:

A little larger than I'd like

I was looking for a sub to match first generation B&W DM602s for music and the occasional DVD. It is really striking how much this sub adds to everyday listening. I never found the 602s to be particularly lacking in bass but WOW, what a difference. I'm really feeling and hearing parts of the music I didn't know were there. The sub blends well with the 602s for music and movies. It delivers plenty of presence without being over bearing at low volumes and will play cleanly at absurd levels. This sub delivers very clear, precise bass ... no rumbles. In comparing this one with the 650, the 650 didn't deliver enough extra to merit the higher price and larger box.

Strength:

value for money, tight bass and accurate timing

Weakness:

NONE!!!

A friend recommended that I get a polk audio sub but after hearing the B&W ASW600, WOW!!! Full sound, good ability to adjust, great volume level, sound pressure level is great. Even at high listening levels the sub is able to handle what my amp is pushing into it. Its tighter and more accurate as well. It also plays deeper at lower volume levels. Polk 350
