Strength:

MEGA FUN!

Weakness:

NONE!

What's to say, absolutly spectacular subwoofer plays everything (Independence Day, Godzilla, The fifth Element, The Long Kiss Godnight.....) with ease. One of these and a pair of CDM9-NT, CDMC-NT, CDMS-NT and a YAMAHA AX-1 is fun for the whole family.

It's performance is both dry, tight, deep, powerfull and boomy (if the soundtrack contains boomy material).

For the price you couldn't ask for more! FUN FUN FUN

Strength:

Compact size, build quality, functionality, musicality

Weakness:

Not powerful enough, HT usage

I reveiwed the ASW2500 sub over a long weekend at home and considering the lack of breakin time, I was somewhat disappointed with its performance for HT usage. In comparison to my ASW1000, the ASW2500 did not extend quite as deep or generate the required power to reproduce .1 sound effects convincingly in my modest sized living room (14.5 x 15.75 x 11 feet). I used the sub with a Yamaha DSPA1 amp, Onkyo 535 DVD and B&W 602s2 (x4)

With the cross over/equaliser switched on, I needed to considerably increase the sub's volume level (3 o'clock position)to hear or feel any bass effect. However, with the crossover switched off there was a noticable increase in volume output.

The ASW2500 uses a 2nd order filter where the ASW1000 uses a 3rd order filter, which I suspect could be one of the reason why the ASW1000 seems more sensitive. Possibly another reason for the difference in sound levels between (or percieved power) between the two subs is that the ASW2500 has a sensitivity rating of 88db compared to 90db for the ASW1000. However, I would have thought the high powered 700w amp in the ASW2500 would over come its lesser sensitivity rating compared to the 120w ASW1000. In my existing system the ASW1000 volume control is set to no more than at about 10 o'clock with a -15db (for music) to -10 db(for HT)attentuation setting on the amp.

For those who like lots of slam and oomph with HT viewing then I recommend not one but two ASW2500 subs. One sub doesn't provide enough bottom end level for my size room.

But its not all bad, with music the ASW2500 sub sounds quite good and integrates very well with bookshelf (B&W602s2)and satellites (B&W WP-1)speakers. It extends well enough with a much dryer, tighter and agile sound than the ASW1000. I'd say the smaller 10" woofer in the well sealed cabinent contributes much to this.

Overall I think the ASW1000 is a better buy, particularly if your sub is required for music and HT, and your room can accommodate its much larger cabinet.

Strength:

Fantastiskt ljup bas för storleken och pengarna!
Musikalisk - basen hänger med i svängarna.

Weakness:

Weakness:

cant bypas the 2 position eq, keeps shaking the tubes on my rptv out of alignment! :-)

got a asw500 for 325 at closeout, and was thinking about this sub but decided to not even tempt myself by listening
to it, but a friend called and said, wow you have to check
this sub out! And he was right, unfortunatly. Five minutes
with this baby and it was adios, tax return! Im an old hi-fi dog, have bw602's, and use a sub primarily for ht, but this sub has made me a believer. Detailed enough for music,
but plenty powerful enough make you believe that the death star is realy parked over you house, this little sub is a
dream to listen to and use. It's not as picky as my other subs in location and you can actually use most of the vollume control without distortion. This is the first "real"
sub I've ever had, most of my other stuff has been a compromise in the under 500$ range. I've always thought that
a really expensive sub was a waste of money (what does the money go to?) but it really can make a difference in the quality of sound. Just be careful where you put it. While watching a Sade video I noticed blue lines around her, which
was puzzling since I had just converged my set this morning.
When the plastic cowling on top of the tv started to rattle
at certain frequencies It meant that my favorite sub position behind the tv had to change! Havent noticed any change yet, indicating the classic bw "burn-in" is over,
but it sounds nice as it is now(also a bit bone rattling)
highly recomended, but be warned, 700 watts is not as loud as you might think, as this sub, like most other bob carver
clones, takes a lot of energy just to push sound out of the sealed encloseure. Still loud enough to break you lease
and fry the nerves of moderate sized dogs, though.

Music reproduction

Weakness:

Home theatre

I actually own a PSB Stratus 15" sub but a friend borrowed it for a home theatre set-up. He gave this B&W to use for the time being. This sub is amazing musically but it doesn't compare to my 15" PSB when it come to HT. It still is a good sub though.

Strength:

Too small sub,but powerful deep tight bass and tuneful.Easy
to install anywhere the owner wants to put.

Weakness:

None at all!!!...

All Ican say that this ASW2500 is one of the best. With regards to what I tried above, they're blown out by this
ASW 2500.The differnce between these Subs is that ,Velodyne
is too expensive, the sound is good but not excellent.About the sunfire Icould rate for 2 Stars, because it is not a pretty to display in the living roomThe design is too ugly and
the sound is too dull and loud enough to break my eardrum,
The bottom line is it is not tuneful. With regards to REL,
which is the the downfiring unit that I've used, the sound
is hard as if the club is punching the floor. The second is,
the priceis also high for the unit that could handle only for
100 watts limited. And lastly it is bulky which is one of the
category for the sub that I don't like most.So therefore
the ASW 2500 is the perfect one that fits to my senses.

Strength:

Great deep bass, small compact size.

Weakness:

None in case of sound ! No maple finish :-(

There is nothing to say more. ASW 2500 is a very good sub. My home theatre system is:
- YAMAHAXA DSP-AX2 (6.1)
- YAMAHA DVD 796
- B&W CM4x2 + CM2x2 + CMCx2 (6.1 configuration)

In this configuration ASW2500 is a must. In case of traditional stereo reproduction, ASW 2500 is turned off, but when watching movies, CM4 alone seem to be too weak in bass depth. In this case you need to use this sub. Think about this when choosing B&W CM series configuration for home theatre system.
There is one exception to this what I said about stereo reproduction. ASW2500 is also a good bass-booster when playing music especially on parties. In this case I switch my YAMAHA processor to “Disco” or “8-ch Stereo” mode. Even on low volume of sound, the CM speaker system reproduce all details, the music sounds very nice and smooth so You can communicate to each other, but without ASW2500 it would be not enough bass in the room especially when listening in low volume levels.

Another advantage that comes from ASW2500 is that B&W finally made a sub that is compact in size ! Other B&W sub models, even those “lower” were just too big to me. Other nice words come from the fact that my sub is in “cherry” finish (not black) and this also is something that I like, cause “black” is something that I just can’t stand in case of stereo equipment. A little disappointment comes from the fact, that ASW “cherry finish” could not match with my other CM speakers. But what a heck !

The best think is that ASW 2500 suits in 100% to all my needs, and that is the most important thing.

Tip for person, that describes below, that ASW2500 "is too boomy". To eliminate this effect just try to change the ASW location in your listening room and adjust the "low-pass filter" frequency. There might be also some distorions in our listening room bacause of tha phase of sound - in this case try to use the phase switch. It will help to solve the problem.

Regards

Strength:

Very musical, size, build quality

Weakness:

not magnetically shielded

I am very happy with the ASW 2500, but depending on your goals it might not be the first choice. I don't need room shaking output while watching movies and listening to music. Don't get me wrong, it will do that if you want it to - my landlord knocked on my door with great concern while I was "testing" a little. The ASW 1000 and the Definitive (which are both much bigger and cheaper) will do this even more.

The main strength of the 2500 is its musicality and ability to blend perfectly with my other speakers. The other tested and auditioned products were all either to boomy, to slow or did not blend good enough with the main speakers to fully enjoy music material. The 2500 does just that and gives you enough impact for movie watching as well. For example, listening to and watching Santana's Supernatural concert video (in DTS 5.1) is just amazing.

My system (by the way, all pieces are highly recommended):
B&W Nautilus 802 (Main)
B&W HTM2 (Center)
B&W CDM 9NT (Side)
B&W ASW 2500 (Sub)
B&K AVR 305 Receiver
Technics A10 (use it for CDs, DVD-Audio and -Video)
Interconnects and speaker cables are JPS Ultraconductors and DH Labs Q10 for the side speakers

Very musical, tight bass

Weakness:

Pops everytime I switch components

I traded the ASW1000 for the 2500 with my dealer. The 1000 was way too boomy. The 2500 though has a real problem with the popping noise when I switch components on my new Deno 5800 receiver. The previous two subs did not do this on the same receiver. I have both Denon and B&W engaged now trying to figure the problem out. I would not recommend this sub at this time because of my problems. I'm hoping that I can get my money back but B&W seems to be pointing to the receiver and Denon is pointing to the sub!

I will retract my concern if it gets resolved.
