Strength:

High quality built, strong bass, low price, and it's B&W!!

Weakness:

I Cracked all the windows :)

If you like movies, then this is it! I played The Haunting (DTS-ES) and it's loud! I could feel the ground shaking eventhough it's concrete. In the movie, there's a big loud thumping at the door, and it felt like someone actually knocking my bedroom's door. Creepy!
As for musical, little bit boomy. I just hope that it could be more tighter. No sweat though. It's still nice.
All in all, it's no doubt the best subwoofer for $600 bucks! You get high quality built, loud and strong bass, and it is B&W!! (Don't you just love it!)

My setup:

B&W FCM THX front speakers (Left, Center, Right)
B&W SCM THX surround speakers
B&W CC6 S2 center channel for Surround Center (6.1ch)
B&W ASW 1000 Sub
Marantz Sr5200 reciever
Marantz MA 500 monoblock amp (6 pieces)
Pioneer DVD 533
Sony Hifi VHS

controlled bass, great response

I got this sub to complement the P5s I was using, as well as to use with my DTS setup. Prior, I was always satisfied with the bass of the P5s. Not extreme by any means, but quite musical. The ASW1000 added a whole new realm to listening, both 2 channel and surround. I now get that punch of tight bass when listening to live music, just like it should be. The rumbles from Mission Impossible and James Bond are now felt as much as heard. My biggest complaint is that it's too big for my current room. I think I've ticked off my neighbors a few times. I have the volume setting down around 1.5 of 10, and it's still a little obtrusive at times. Also, and this may be due to source material, or my receiver, I constantly have to adjust the volume between stereo and surround. I think I'm limited in my current room, however. The physical size of the product is also quite large, but this is what you get, I guess.

Setup:
Hitachi 36" Ultrascan
Denon 1801
Pioneer DV-434
B&W P5s (to be replaced with CM4s, hopefully)
B&W ASW1000

If you want your room to shake and the ground air to move then this is the sub-woofer for you! This thing is awsome. An absolute must to any
home theatre system!! B&W does it again.
P.S. Bring ear plugs.

The ultimate low bass machine. This isn't just a bad thing. I'm not talking highschool punky booming around in his car with 6 15" speakers (although you could with this thing if you wanted to). It's just a perfect match for just about any bookshelf speaker you're looking for. This soft 12" reproduces low bass easily and without flabbing or distortion. It doesn't produce chest hitting mid-bass, but a good sub shouldn't. Want an example of a sub trying to do too much, check out a sunfire.
It's a very soft mellow sub that is suprising in it's accuracy and can bring a wall down if need be. For about $700, it's the best sub you can buy. Spending more for a sub just doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not beautiful like a Linn ($4000) but it should just be tucked away in the corner anyhow. Oh, the sucka is heavy!

Until I win the lotto or something really amazing comes out, this is the only sub I would purchase.

This is one fine sub. It is used primarily as an AC-3 chennel but also for the simple pleasure of cranking music. We listen to pop, vocalists, jazz and classical - they all sound like they were designed to be heard.
If required, this thing will flap your cuffs. Otherwise it is simply a solid performer at a very reasonable price.

I recently purchased a new home, and accordingly I kept my priorities in order. The home theater was one of the first purchases - thus the plastic porch furniture in the kitchen. I purchased an RSX965 along with B&W DM603 Fronts, CC6 Center, DS6 Surrounds, an ASW-1000 sub. The usual source is a Toshiba 3109, into a Mitsubishi 50" Diamond (If the reason for porch furniture wasn't clear before...)
I've spent the last few months digging around auditioning various speakers and components to put together this system. I stumbled on a dealer one day on my way to a picnic and found the audio portion this configuration setup in one of their listening rooms. It sold itself. This system can easily be maxed without any sign of distortion (Except for the aluminum siding rattling outside my house!)and at normal levels provides excellent clear and sharp sound.

The dealer had several B&W speakers available in the room and I drove them nuts for several hours trying different configurations. My original intention was to go for B&W's new 605 series (w/ two 7" subs powered w/ 130 watt amps in each cabinet) and skip the subwoofer for now. I found those to be outstanding for stereo sound, but the just didn't have the kick in the head feeling for home theater. We kicked in the ASW-2000 and the room that was already filled with sound joined the action on the screen.

I found myself looking at a crazy price tag and a system that would probably blow out the walls in my poor little ranch house. I toned down and ordered the 602 fronts and the ASW-1000. This combination sounds excellent. The 603's take care of the stereo base and fill the room evenly while the sub packs a solid kick.

I did listen to the ASW-1000 alone with 602's originally and found the effects to be solid, but the feeling of even stereo music base throughout the room wasn't there. So in the end I got the DM603's, each with a single 7" sub, and the problem was resolved. This taught me that a system without a sub should create an environment that is evenly and completely filled with almost the complete spectrum, then bring in the sub for the big guns!

I liked the Definitive Technology 15TL before trying out the ASW1000. The ASW1000 really gives you the bass punch needed for home theater. I will be purchasing this one!

I have been looking all over NYC for a slamming sub. I play the bass so you know that I must feel the bass. I checked out the Velodyne HGS 10. It was real nice punchy and small but also expensive. I was going to get it but I knew that I could find something cheaper but also good. I finally heard the B&W at Innovative Audio in Bklyn. I bought along my favortie dvd to test the subs which was Blade. I was amazed when the opening scene came on. The all room was shaking. The room was 20 X 24. My basement is half that. I was real impressed with the quickness and depth of the sub. You can feel the bass hitting your leg. If you like deep bass buy this sub. I paid $650. It's worth it. It is probably the loudest 120 watts that you will ever hear. I can't turn the volume all the way up because it over rides the other speakers. The B&W 2000 will most likely be overkill because it's to much power. It sounds good with music also. You should keep the low phase on 70. If you want to feel some serious bass go out right now and buy this sub and purchase Blade and Soldier with Kirk Russell. Peace!!

It's a fantastic Sub. And I am 100% happy with it. I have a full B&W802 set up and a 100Wx5 sony amp and this is a very good sub for my system. More power than I can use at my place. I was looking a M&K but for the price this was the speaker for me.

Home theatre AC-3 or regular music--it won't matter if you own the B&W ASW1000. This 12" driver coupled with its integrated 150W amplifier makes this reasonably priced sub-woofer a top-performer in its price range. B&W has gotten back to the basics with this big box, big woofer, big amplifier design. Although all my other speakers are NHTs, the NHT base system is a touch on the slow and tight side. But the ASW1000 can move air quickly enough for low-bass music and heavily enough to make the floors, windows and ear drums shake during any high-powered scene in a movie. This sub comes highly recommended if you can find the space for its somewhat large box. Styling is nice and the craftsmanship is solid and of high quality.

NHT SuperTwo (Mains)
NHT Audiocenter-1 (center)
