Strength:

Looks good, quality buildt, extremly sturdy spikes, all the controlls you`ll ever need, speaker and line hook ups, powerfull!!!

Weakness:

???? Eh....weakness..hmmmm....NONE!!!

Recent year or so I have been listening to a system consisting of four BW 603 S2 and a BW CC6 S2 center. This surround set up has been everything I could have wished for! But there has always been one thing missing, the lowest bass region. This hasn`t been a problem in regular stereo, but as I have become more of a movie buff I have began to miss this more and more. The solution was to buy a BW ASW 1000 subwoofer. I spendt a lot of time setting it up, because it was extremly sensitive of the placement. But after I found the spot, the fun started! This big black box has an incredible way of blending in to the sound of my 603`s. Sometimes they aren`t audible at all, and then they show muscles and give you the extra needed power in the action sequences. But beware of the volume control!!! I usually set it at position 1.5 , and there`s 10 of them :-) I believe this is the best buy you can get in this price class!

Strength:

Extremely well built, attention to detail, auto on/off feature

Weakness:

This thing cranks out the bass so well, it is impracticle to adjust its volume setting above 20%!

This sub is unbeatable for home theatre and provides impressive response for musical listening, as well. There is nothing better than kicking back and watching a movie like Three Kings, and feeling the explosion from a helicopter crash come across the room and wash over you!

To top it off, the thing is just damn cool to look at. Be sure to check out the dimpled driver port on the bottom - one look and you know this sub means business.

Strength:

Really gives "that something" to the sound

Weakness:

Auto on/off didn't work

I got myself a DVD player and found myself looking at Matrix over and over again. But since I have seen it at a theather I knew that something was missing in the low frequency area. I had dreamed about a sub for many years, so I began to looking though some old magazines and found out that the AVR-2000 was a very good choise, but the pricetag was a bit too expensive.

So I took myself to a store and listened it at a high-end room (yes, the AVR-4000 is much better) and with a home theather setup. I was definately sold!

I also listened to Paradigm and Energy in the same price class, but this one was more accurate in its sound.

It fits well with music and home theathre, and can really make powerful punches when needed.

The only downside with it is that the auto on/off did not work on my sub.

Good choise!

Strength:

Ability to add serious punch to bopth Audio and HT applications.

Weakness:

Size. It's a bigun.

This sub is fantastic!
I've taken my time writing and opinion on this unit as I've never had a Sub before and working out the low-pass and LFE settings as well as placement took some time.
I have a full B&W setup (603/601) and a Marantz rec and DVD/CD player.
Once I got the placement and settings worked out, the sub adds a great punch to my music and HT applications, yet the listener is still hard pressed to detect it's location by ear alone. It also opened up the midrange on my 603s very nicely for Audio.
The only downside is that this is one big unit and I have a small and awkwardly shaped listening area. All in all, I am very happy with this and think it compliments my setup nicely.

Strength:

Awesome bass, typical B&W quality product.

Weakness:

None, other than shaking the walls.

The ASW-1000 has rounded out my system of B&W speakers and Marantz audio components. What a difference this subwoofer had made! Incredible bass. Easy to use, easy to adjust and set. Haven't had any problems with it whatsoever.

Strength:

very clean deep bass, excellent output for 125 watt amp, good looks, blends well with B&W 602 s2's

Weakness:

a little big, only a problem if space is a concern

Well, I originally was shopping for a more full-range pair of speakers for mostly music. I also use this with a home theater system. I orginally was going to buy B&W 603 s2's but couldn't believe how well the ASW 1000 blended with the 602 s2's. I have always been a little shy about using a sub for serious listening, because it always seemed to give away it's location. This is not true of the ASW 1000. And when it comes movie time...wow!! This thing really shakes the room...surprising considering the floor is concrete. I may even consider getting another!! Sub is very quick and keeps up well with the main speakers. I don't think this sub can be beat for $600. I also would like to thank Dick at Spearit Sound in Northampton, MA for his putting up with me for quite a few hours listening and tweaking the sub in their listening room. Enjoy the music and movies!!

Strength:

Dynamite bass, quick response. Just a fantastic speaker

Weakness:

Large size doesn't make the spouse too happy but I don't mind.

I bought a Definitive ProCinema system with their 250 watt subwoofer. From the start, the subwoofer sounded ok but wouldn't automatically turn on. I returned it and got another one. It also didn't turn on correctly. I complained to my salesperson who then strongly recommended the ASW-1000.

From the minute I hooked it up it worked perfectly and immediately turned my system into a "monster system". DVDs like Matrix and the Bond movies just rock the house....I mean everything shakes....and that's good!! Concert DVDs are also terrific. I really love this subwoofer!!

For the money and more, you can't can't do better than this subwoofer.

See below for my original review.... I continue to be satisfied with my overall system. Over time, I have concluded that the ASW1000 sub is the most amazing component in my system. I have had the opprotunity to compare it against Velodyne and Paradigm subs in homes of my friends, and my smile just keeps getting bigger!

My buddy's Paradigm PW2200 is "supposed to be better" than the B&W ASW1000, but it just doesn't bear out under auditioning.

Let me be very clear: THIS SUB IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST OF ANYTHING IN ITS RANGE!!!!

I have not had the opportunity to evaluate the ASW 2000, 3000, or 4000, but I can't imagine a practical purpose for better performace. This sub completely satisfies me!

Strength:

bass depth, output, control and connection options; very quiet operation

Weakness:

not as tight when played loud (what subwoofer is?). Not easy to place because it is HUGE!

This subwoofer is the best available at under $1000 list PERIOD. It plays very deep, clear bass and is relatively tight too. The ASW 1000 has excellent power for use in a video system. For $700 list this sub is an absolute STEAL.

It has both low-level (RCA) and high-level (speaker) inputs, as well as TWO sets of low-level outs in addition to the high level outs; this would allow you to use the sub's internal crossover in a biamp configuration. I know of NO other manufacturer who offers that at the price.

If you have the room, and only have a budget of $700, the ASW1000 will offer the cleanest, loudest, and most-musical bass of anything out there. I cannot believe the value B&W is offering with this product.

Strength:

well built

Weakness:

touchy volume

I was helping a friend put together a home theater system and we were auditoning Paradigm and B&W speakers. I wanted to get him the 2200 because I had brought it to his house before and we got it sounding great. The sales guy didn't have one on hand but said I should try the B&W, so we did. I sounds great for a 10 incher. It shook the room as well as my 2200, which I once again hauled back over so we could compare. Bass didn't seem as effortless as it did on the 2200 though, and 2200 went lower as well. You could also feel it a little more. But the B&W held its own ok. On the "Fifth Element" soundtrack CD, (not the movie), there is a tone that plummets way down to @ 25 hz or lower. That, by the way, has made more sales people mad cause it shows what their subs can or in most cases cannot do. Anyway, again the B&W did not disappoint but was bettered by the Paradigm. I think my friend is happy with the B&W so he'll keep it. It's a good soild product. But if your looking for a sub to go lower and play easier maybe check out the Paradigm. Aslo check out the M&K VX1275. It is a little tighter than either of those so it sound better on music but, it does do it "down under" like the Paradigm.
These are just my obsevervations and opinions of mine so do with them what you will. It's you own ear that counts.
