Strength:

To perfect, can get right adjustment, everyway I try It just gets better

Weakness:

Phpt, Yah

As a former A/V salesman for the above mentioned place of purchase, I can say this the absolute BEST value your buck can buy for a small sub. Doesn''t take upalot of space. Had it 2 months, can''t quite seem to get a happy medium between music and HT. Currently using "99" model Technics SA-AX6 w/DD/DTS processor (separate piece) AR s208HO fronts, AR stature SC-2 center and 215PS rears, toshiba DVD and Panasonic 27" TV. Overall pretty timber matched setup, Jurassic Park III, phenominal, X-men-Xtreme, Starwars EP1, lightsaber battles gave me goose bumps, Musicwise- Have to turn down adaptive control to about 3 for Cypress Hill, and about halfway for Metallica, Hendrix sounds a little muddy, Limp Bizkit, a little snappy, easily fixed, just needa small mat or rug,in HT mode adaptive control goes 3/4 up both volume/LPfilter go halfway, switch 0 any suggestions to get a little cleaner reponse, without overkill E-mail me

Strength:

Clean signal, attractive, compact cabinet. Easy to adjust to your listening preferences

Weakness:

None that I have found. I cant believe anything can beat this subwoofer for this price.

Tight bass, nice cabinet design. Really amazed how much bass can be produced by an 8" speaker. This completes my ht system, and is the only speaker that is not a jbl. ubid seems to carry these often, and my price included shipping.

Similar Products Used:

None, but I really favored this over the jbl pb-10, and an infinity that I "test drove"

Strength:

awesome bass!!! Well built!

Weakness:

I bought the AR HC1 system (the sub and 5 surround sound speakers) for $315 with shipping. This sub rocks!!! It hits really good for an 8". It sounds better than most 10"''s. My friend has the dual 8" Yamaha and it kills it!!! Highly recommended!!! http://shop.store.yahoo.com/adnet1/acresarhc1ar.html

Strength:

Compact, Clean, crisp bass at any sound level.

Weakness:

I can't afford to put one in every room of my house.

I purchased them a couple years ago and I am still very happy with their performance. I have two of them in the rear corners of my room, in conjuction with a Technics SADX 950 receiver and AR 2262 towers, Center & surrounds also AR.

low price, rumbling bass

wow! This product is fantastic. I got this subwoofer for $120 only because the salesman cut me a deal because the subwoofer i wanted wasn't in stock. Am i ever glad that i got this one instead. This unit is well worth the price even if you have to spend around $200. I have it is a medium sized bedroom along with my two pioneer 10 inch pioneer speakers. Before withouit the subwoofer there was barly any bass at all, but with the subwoofer you can hear the aluminum siding on my house vibrating all the way down the street! NO jOKE! I could never imagine that this much bass could come from this small of a box. If this thing rocks this hard i could only picture what the 12 inch one would sound like. I recommend this subwoofer to anyone. This is probly the best sub on the market for around $200 right now.

Strength:

Awesome addition to HT, solid bass augmentation for music (DVD audio and CD audio).

Weakness:

No weaknesses identified to this point. Initial balancing of volume and crossover can be time consuming.

I have found this sub to be a great deal for the price. I purchased it for just under $200.00 from a local audio dealer.

As with all subs, I believe you must sample them in your own home, with your own equipment. The salesmen will have them booming alongside other stuff, and you can never isolate the actual performance. This sub delivers outstanding bass response, and when tuned correctly, it does not overpower my system. In fact, I have found it to be an excellent compliment to my other components (currently using a KENWOOD VR309, PROSCAN DVD, and modest speakers all around).

The initial balancing of crossover and volume is somewhat of a compromise with regard to Home Theater vs Music. My priority for this unit is Home Theater, but I have balanced it such that I am very pleased with the sonic delivery for both DVD and Audio CDs as well. While each setup is unique, I currently have mine set at 100HZ for the crossover, and very low volume for output.

I highly recommend this unit. It has given my movies just the edge I was looking for. When you decide to kick the tires, give "BLADE" (DVD) a sampling for your sonic reference....

Strength:

Small design allows versatile placement.

Weakness:

Struggles to reproduce "very low" bass.

I recently finally upgraded from an old ('95) SONY ES pro-logic receiver to a Denon DTS/Dolby Digital receiver. I have not been using a subwoofer, but I was told you really miss out on Dobly Digital 5.1 if you don't have the .1 (Low Frequencies). So I decided to look into subwoofers.

After just spending a good deal of money on a receiver, I was not too anxious to spend more on a sub. So this review comes from someone who just simply wants to hear some of those low frequencies without spending a lot of money.

After a little research I learned that you can spend anywhere from $65.00 up to $3,000 and more. I really wanted something in the low financial end, but I also don't like poor quality. I had narrowed down my search to AR, JBL, INFINITY, and BIC. There was a good low-cost option amoung each of these brands.

I finally went with the AR because I liked the specs. and the small size of the cabinet. I have a wife who is very picky about what is placed in our family room. I've managed over the years to "sneak" into our family room a SONY '53 big screen, 2 MISSION 733's, Klipsch KV-2 Center and 2 JBL N-24AW for the surround.

As you can tell, I have pieced it together and a true audiophile would probably like to hang me for mixing my speaker manufactures up so much. But needless to say, the system sounds fantastic. I am very pleased with what the sub adds to the overall sound. We use this system exclusively for HT, and this little guy can really kick out some good bass.

As others have mentioned in their reviews, it can literally shake the walls. The quality of construction seems to be very good, it looks nice and is a breeze to set up.

The only negative thing I could mention is that when our DVD player sends some extremely low frequencies to this guy, he struggles a bit and you can hear some distortion. But, back to what I said I was trying to accomplish. Thats ok, for the money spent ($149), I'll live with a little distortion once in a blue moon.

All in all, this is a good bang for the buck, and you will hear things you've never heard before if you did not have a sub before.

Strength:

Small size, big bass, tight and crisp woofer, not loose.

Weakness:

Cannot turn speaker up too loud without having to turn the sub down.

I wanted to buy a sub woofer for my 10' by 16' dorm room, but I didn't want something that would take a lot of room, so I did a lot of reading and decision making, and I decided to try this sub. To my pleasure I found that this thing kicks! Now I can have the volume low and still have a lot of base performance. My resident assistant is always coming into my room telling me to turn it down. When I turn it up the fish tank in the next dorm shakes. I am very impressed with this sub, it beats my dad's 50 watt 8" polk by far, and makes my friend's 50 8" watt aiwa look worthless. This makes me want to invest in more acoustic research speakers in the future.

Strength:

deep rich clear roomfilling bass that can produce frequency's down to 25Hz, small footprint, tight bass for music and deep thunderous bass for home theater

Weakness:

none

when i read some of the good reviews here i decided to go and check this sub out, i'm glad i did i never knew that an 8 inch sub could put out so much bass it goes loud for an 8 incher it goes deep i tested this sub at 25 Hz @ 79 dB thats awesome for an 8" sub and this is the only 8 inch sub that i tested that has clean output at 25Hz.
i have been shooping for an 8" or a 10" sub for over 3 months then i found out that 8 inch subs put out the tightest and clearest bass for all subs .
I have tested subs like the M&K K-9 sub but the sound did not compare to the amount of sound the Acoustic Research sub did .
This acoustic sub put out the clearest deepest thunderous roomfilling bass i have ever heard for an 8 inch sub .
this sub fills my large living room with deep bass plus it has a powerful 120 watt amp thats powerful for a 8 inch sub
if your looking for a small compact sub that will deliver the pefromance of a 10" buy this sub it sounds better then my old jbl pb-10 which the amp blew on me.

GREAT JOB ACOUSTIC RESEARCH
