It is amazing how much sound comes out of so small a speaker. I have the KSW10" sub to go with the speakers and couldn't be any happier. I use a Yamaha RXV-795a reciever and a Sony 560 DVD player and so far anything that has gone through the speaker system sounds great!

Strength:

Great Sound, nice bass and good overall effect

Weakness:

The mounting brackets really do suck.

I just bought this speaker set to go with my new receiver. Here are the specs:

Quintet Speaker system
KWS-12 Sub
Sony DE945 Receiver
Sony 560 DVD player

The system sounds great and the Digital sound was awesome. Very powerful sound from such little speakers. I bought it after reading all the reviews here.

The things I did change were to switch out the center channel for my JBL center channel. It is louder and more powerful than the Klipsch. I also used a dedicated sub cable with a Y attachment to make it a stereo sub. I really do dislike the mounting brackets. They are very awkward and did take some time to mount.

All in all, I really do like the system. I bought the Quintet from JandR.com for $249.00 and the KWS-12 for $299.00. Mention that you saw this price and they should give it to you. Can't beat it for this price.

Strength:

Tonal quality is very true

Weakness:

sound gets diffused in larger area

Paired with a 12" sub, the Quartet Microtheater produced clear excellent sound--However, I soon found that the speakers were insufficent for the area they needed to fill which was a 25' by 25' basement area.

Bigger Klipsch speakers solved the problem....

I have just purchased the Klipsch Quintet speakers with the KSW 10 subwoofer and I have spent the last 2 weeks installing and testing them for both movies and music and I am impressed with their performance for both.

I have had a pair of JBL TLX 4 speakers up until now so I was very keen to have surround speakers that played at least as well for music as well as movies. Having used the Klipsch Quintets now and tested them with anything from Lou Reed to Steely Dan I am extremely happy with the purchase. These speakers have to be used in conjunction with a subwoofer and once properly set sound terrific, having as much 'slam' as the JBLs and improving on midrange clarity (the bass clarity is outstanding) with no overt treble harshness. I stress that the speakers have to be properly set and used in conjunction with a subwoofer as used without a subwoofer the bass sound is rather 'boomy' and thin sounding.

Movie sound is outstanding and very involving. I am using a Yamaha RXV-596 surround receiver and this is a perfect complement to the speakers having plenty of power to drive them, overall I could not recommend these speakers too highly.

Strength:

Good sound from a small package.

Weakness:

Nothing important.

I purchased a pair of the sateelite speakers from ubid. I am not reviewing the complete system.

I have these setup as rear satellite speakers. They sound much better that my old KLH one way speakers. I like the stands for the speakers. I have them setup about 9 inches from the top of the ceiling pointed at about 30 degrees below parallel with the floor. They are to the left and right of the listeners ears swlightly in front of the ears.

It's hard to review rear speakers. When listening to music with sound effects turned on they produce background echo noises and when listening in surround they occasionaly produce whispy noises of things flying by. Typically high fidelity sound is never fed to these channels.

These speakers are constructed like high-end computer speakers and they sound good for their size, but, because they are very small they can't produce the same quality sound that larger spoeakers can. I think they're a good deal for the price I paid ($44 each + $20 S&H) and I'm glad I bought them.

Strength:

DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL SOUND WITH DVD'S IS INCREDIBLE

Weakness:

STANDS NOT AS FLEXIBLE WITH ANGLES AS THEY COULD BE

FOR THE MONEY I SPENT TO PURCHASE THIS COMPLETE SYSTEM THE KLIPSCH KSW12 AND QUINTET SYSTEM AS A PACKAGE FOR ONLY $665 WITH SHIPPING!!!! I HAVE NOT HEARD OR SEEN A BETTER VALUE ON THE MARKET TODAY. BOSE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE LOUD, CLEAR VOCAL SOUND QUALITY THAT THIS SYSTEM CAN PRODUCE. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING THIS SYSTEM VERY LOUD WITH A SONY-845 RECIEVER AND THEY SCREAM I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THEM CLOSE TO DISTORTING AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL LISTENING LEVELS. THE MUSIC SIDE ALTHOUGH NOT AS WONDERFULL AS THE HOME THEATER SIDE OF THESE SPEAKERS IS STILL MUCH BETTER THAN ONE WOULD IMAGINE FOR THE SIZE OF THESE SPEAKERS, YOU CAN REALLY HEAR THE HORN TWEETERS AND THE VOCALS ARE CLEAR AND STRONG. THE KSW12 SUB REALLY HITS AND IS VERY CLEAN. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SOUND QUALITY WITH THESE SPEAKERS AND DARE SOMEONE TO GIVE THIS SET A LISTEN TO AND TRY NOT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PRICE PER PERFORMANCE RATIO, THIS SYSTEM CANNOT BE BEAT. WAY TO GO KLIPSCH!!!!

Addendum to last review:

I decided to pull one of these apart to see how it was made. Ubid claims:

"The cabinet is manufactured from Stone Mineral Compound (SMC), a material used extensively in professional loudspeakers. SMC is twice as dense as common ABS, providing superior damping characteristics and neutralizing unwanted resonance."

Looks like plain old plastic to me, and after stuffing them with fiberglass, I discovered they were HIGHLY resonant. Sound is improved greatly to my ears, over just taping the the ports, as the enclosures themselves were howling. If you can get this set on the cheap, may be happier if you are willing to pop them open and stuff them. They still are a little dark, but not terribly so. Mids are a *little* lacking, but that perception may be because the low vocal range is still a little too pronounced for my taste, but much less than before. EQ is the only answer here.

But, music sounds much better now. I don't believe you can fairly judge a set of speakers by saying it's great for movies, but it sucks for music. A movie can distract you with explosions and crap. Music just has to sound good. Stuff these puppies, and they will sound pretty good.

Strength:

Great looks, quality build, 100w RMS capacity

Weakness:

Sound like DOO DOO

I've been using a Celestion MP-1 for a center channel, and it is a great speaker, and if you've never seen it, the Quintets look exactly like it, only smaller. The design was ripped from this wonderful unit, and so when I discovered the Quintets,I just had to get some to build a cosmetically matched surround setup. I read some reviews about the great sound, but I tell you, I would trade all four for one more Celestion MP-1. I find the horn tweeters are too directional, creating a tiny sweet spot. I may figure out some way to diffuse them. They are terribly dark sounding, WAY too loud at the bottom of their range. I have fixed this somewhat by duct-taping over the ports in the rear. This tightened up the bottom a lot, makes them a closer sonic match to the MP-1, and I no longer feel like I hafta find some sucker to unload them on. Taping the ports takes the rating from a two to a (somewhat generous) four. I'm happy enough now, but someday I'll try to get more MP-1's and put these somplace else- someplace with lots of mirrors and tile...

Strength:

Open, spacious sound. Very efficient

Weakness:

If I had to say they had a weakness it would be that they does require a subwoofer.

It was worth the price of the speakers just to see the look on my 25 year old sons face when I played 3Doors Down "Kryptonite" at about 100 decibels. I have them hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-D608 receiver and they work REAL well together.
