Strength:

Awesome sound. Solid build quality. Price.

Weakness:

None so far.

I have used these speakers for about two years and have been extremely satisfied. I purchased the package because of the price and Energy's solid name in the speaker industry. I was so surprised at how well these small speakers performed when listening to music or watching movies. These speakers are solidly built and have banana plug connectors on the back (another nice feature for a "budget" speaker line). I highly recommend these speakers.

Weakness:

Midrange when listening to music.

I read review after review on this site before I decided to make the purchase. I would have to agree with 60% of the reviews that there is a midrange deficit while listening to music. I purchased my Take 5 system from a local Hi Fi shop and listened to the Encore system as well before the purchase. The Encore system definately makes up for all the weaknesses in the Take 5, however it is double the cost. That taken into concideration, I decided that the Take 5s were enough to get me started. I have these hooked to a Yamaha 595a A/V Receiver and everyone who listens to the system is amazed. Again, for movies I don't think you will get a better bang for the buck.

Weakness:

Lack of midrange

I have been doing research on this product. Finally got Take 5 and eXL 8" sub with 2 pairs of HT3 stand last week based on this review. I made a big mistake using a generic RCA cable for the sub. It was a painful process to do calibration or adjustment to the sub to no avail. The sound was terrible until I got a Monster sub cable which made a big difference. I am happy with the cable and the HT system since it was hooked up. Never nickel and dime with cable. My $0.02.

Bought the system from Audio Shop. It arrived my house 2 days after I placed the order. Very good service.

Strength:

Small speakers with great sound

Weakness:

none for the size and price

Just a note on the wall mounts: I also had the same problem with them slipping out of place. The solution is to 1.clean the ball and groove with rubbing alcohol. 2. Place the speaker in the desired location. 3. Find a large lockable plumber wrench and tightening the lock. Since I tried this ( and believe me I tried everything, including sticking rubber bands between the ball and socket) I have not had a problem. Also, I have been extremely satisfied with the speakers over the past year. If you want a great sounding pair of speakers that are unobtrusive with a great price, I recommend the Take 5 system.

sound details

I was going back and forth between Take 5 and RM 6600 until the very moment I said, "I'll take Take 5". When I first listened to it, it seemed RM 6600 sounded cleaner, but when I listened to both for the last time, RM 6600 sounded like it's high pitched. That sound reminded me of Bose AM10 too much that night. Anyway, Take 5 sounds good enough to me. I also picked up 8 inch Energy sub. It doesn't generate too much base, but it's adaquate enough for my liking and my one bedroom apartment. I read many people complaining about lack of midrange. But, I don't hear anything wrong with my speakers. I set 100db crossover with about 6/10 volume level. I wish I could get bigger and more expensive speaker sets, but, for now, the size and sound right to me.

Strength:

Best for the price.

Weakness:

None so far.

Frankly speaking, I could not make out the difference between the bose I heard at the shops and the take 5. But after reading all the reviews, I just resigned to the fact that I am not an expert. So, bought these ones with the 8" subwoffer. In my medium sized apartment room, they are an overkill I think.

My system is as follows :

Pioneer DV 333 DVD player.
Yamaha 5150 receiver.
Energy Take 5 + SL8 sub.

I think this is the best system for a medium sized apartment room at @ $1200.

Strength:

Small size, hides extremely well. Tremendous sound.

Weakness:

Nothing I've seen so far

Bought the Take 5 plus the XLS8 subwoofer, and man, it's been worth every penny. Even my wife, hardly the audio nut, agrees that we could never go back to just a TV.

We use the Take5 & sub with a Denon AVR-2801 receiver & Pioneer DV-333 DVD as recommended by the installer, and it appears to be a fine combination. Our family room is on the small side (about 17 ft. X 14 ft.) so we neither wanted nor could we fit any sort of huge mongo speakers. These fit the bill just right.

The whole installation took maybe an hour and a half -- in all time and $ well spent for our introductory foray into home theater.

Strength:

Great sound for movies

Weakness:

Not really for stereo listening

I purchased these speakers when I was looking to upgrade my mismatched set of speakers I was using as a surround set of speakers. I auditioned these speakers after reading a review in Home Theater magazine. I was amazed by their sound for such a small speaker. I use them with my Denon receiver and Sony DVD player. They are a fantastic set of speakers when watching movies. Since they are so small you really need to have them all on so I really don't feel they are that great for 2 channel listening.

Strength:

Excellent bass from EXL 8 sub, small size, treble

Weakness:

harsh midrange, bit boxy

A generally very capable system for home theatre which cannot be bettered at the price. The sub in particular is amazing and there is really no reason to spend more unless you have a large room. The speakers image nicely are discreet and have a very nice high treble. They can handle powerful DD and DTS soundtracks but also excel at ambient information in non-action films. They are also great in stereo for music and the sub meshes with the satellites well.

The drawback really can't be a problem for the price but the midrange is a bit weak and brash and the satellites can sound a bit too localized and boxy.
