Strength:

Great pice to sound ratio! Solid construction Powerful subwoofer

Weakness:

Center channel is a bit small Not the most attractive speakers-if you care about stuff like that.

I have been very pleased with this system, particularily when you consider it sounds as good if not better than several other more expensive speakers. The bass is fantastic--trust me--you will not be craving more bass after hearing this sub. The speakers are well built, (they are even weatherproof), although they are definately not the prettiest. Thanks to all the reviewers who made the task of purchasing a little easier. I was originally running a Yamaha RX420 and then upgraded to a RX800--this made a very noticable difference and the HC2 really shone.

Strength:

Sound, great bass, size, 5 yr warranty

Weakness:

none

I am limited on space so I decided to go with small speakers for my home theater. I tried several different brands but they were all lacking something. Jbl's were lacking a good center channel and the Sub was too small. Bose, well I should have known better, they really do suck, Polk was the closest but the price was too much. The Polk sub was under powered even after turning it up almost all the way, the sound was too " BOXY ".

I first decided to go with AR because I went to my buddy's house and heard his AR sub. Impressed with the AR sub, I went with the AR HC2. I paid $506 for the AR-HC2 including shipping at consumer-direct.com. They got the speakers to me in 2 days, their service is outstanding. When I first hooked them up, I was amazed at the clarity output from such small speakers. The sub really drops and is crystal clear. Then I upgraded my reciever to an Onkyo 575x. I had my buddy come over and he was impressed at the Clarity output from these speakers and Sub.

They bring swivel mounts and you really can mount them just about anywhere. The really cool part is that the Satellites are outdoor speakers, so for my next upgrade ( big Speakers ), I can just mount them outside my house. I highly recommend these speakers and give the 5 stars for price ans sound. Did I mention a 5 year warranty from AR??

Strength:

Compact, powerful, comes with brackets, excellent midranges and highs. The subwoofer is very strong and clear.

Weakness:

Weak bass on the speakers, but that's what the sub is for.

This is a superb value home-theatre speaker setup. The only comparable system out there is the Polk RM6500 and that is hundreds of dollars more expensive.

The Edge speakers are great, they handle my Onkyo TX-DS575x receiver's outputs with no problems. The sound reproduction is fantastic, very clear and lifelike. They absolutely need the subwoofer though. This system is designed to work together and without the subwoofer the Edge speakers are only suitable for satellites, not main speakers.

The subwoofer is also excellent. I can't set the volume above half before it shakes the walls. The bass is clear and not at all muddy.

If I had to pick anything to complain about, I would like a larger center-channel speaker with more dynamic range.

Overall, I could not be happier with this setup. For the money I paid ($516) I challenge anyone to find a better system out there.

Strength:

build quality, sound reproduction - clear highs, mids, and bass, best for price and above

Weakness:

none

After spending more than six months researching, reviewing, and listening to different home theater speaker systems, I came across ARHC2. Continued searching and listening and decided to give them a try. Probably the best decision I ever made.

This is my first 5.1 system so it took a little time setting up, but once done, I couldn't believe the sound. It took me a little time to find that my DVD was not sending the DTS/Dolby Digital signal to the receiver, but once set, it's as if I were at the theater. In the Matrix, where the helicopter crashes into the building sounds so real, your jaw drops.

Music from classical to techno (no country) sounds incredible, although the bass has to be turned down alittle. Oh, and does this system have bass?!?

My father has also been researching a system and I've told him how, for the price, he can't beat this system. There are systems that cost hundreds of dollars more than the MSRP that do not compare.

You'd probably have to pay more than $1500 to find a system that's better. All I can say is give them a try. You'll be glad you did.

Strength:

Great sound for small budget

Weakness:

need to beef up center channel speaker-very minor complaint

Have a great old Adcom Amp and PreAmp w/ Mags, but couldn't afford the update to surround. Once heard, the AR's were obviously the best buy in my price range (and somewhat out of it for that matter). I use a new Yamaha 5240 Receiver with this system and am also extremely happy with the way they co-exist. The AR's have crisp clear high end sound with flat mid range response and utilize a very undervalued sub. Plenty of distortion free punch here. The center channel ( one of five matched satellites) is somewhat inadequate for my needs. I have tinnitus and need a little more umph for the spoken word. Visitors have no such complaints and are amazed to hear what I paid for the speakers. Bought as a stop gap until I could afford something "high end", this system has captured my heart!

Strength:

Unbelievable Sound! Crisp, Clear, and Responsive Sound for Music and Movies! WOW!!! Lots of Bang for the Buck!

Weakness:

No major weaknesses...The mounting brackets/screws did not seem adequate for the weight of the speaker.

Holy Mother of Audio! I bought the AR HC2 system after listenning to many other disapointing systems, including Bose, Yamaha, Kenwood and JBL (in my price range).
Obviously I was concerned about buying something that I had not heard personally. However, there was not a dealer anywhere in my local area. So, to all the previous reviewers,... THANK YOU! I took the chance and WOW am I pleased.
Actually, I could not be more pleased with the system! It absolutely Rocks! So clear that my Dog has been trying to find out who the heck is in my house singing! The poor dog just doesn't know what to think. Honestly, its like I have had James Taylor and Eric Clapton stop by for a Jam Session... No, Really!
No more movie tickets for me! I have my own cinema right at home! Thanks to all of the previous reviewers!

Anyone who is looking for a great sound at a great price for a small to medium size room (15' x 25'),...THIS IS THE ONE!

My System:
Acoustic Research HC2 Surround System (Edge Satellites and the PS2112(?)Sub.
Sony STR DE 875 with Optical Digital, S-Link and Multi Channel Audio Connectors)
Sony DVPNS5000V DVD (SACD Compatible)

P.S. The Pod Race, from the Phantom Menace, is a great test for your DTS listenning.

Strength:

AMAZING sound for the money! Crisp transparent sound for everything from techno to rap to country to classical. The bass from the sub shakes the guys' stuff above us! We actually drove out the people in teh apartment across from us!!!

Weakness:

The speakers are a little 'big' compared to Bose offerings, but the pluses greatly outweigh this minor complaint.

All I can say is "OH MY GOD!!!" What an AMAZING deal these things are! I am a freshman in college, and that means I love my audio systems (I have a car system too). So I had limited cash for a good system. After about 3 weeks of research and listening and surfing, I put together a complete surround sound system (these speakers, a Yamaha receiver, JVC S-VHS VCR, Pioneer DVD player, cabling - mainly monster, 27" TV, mounting things for the DVD player and VCR, etc...) for a grand total of ONLY about $1700!!!! YES ALL OF THAT FOR $1700!!! And man, is this setup AMAZING! these speakers produce cleaner sounds and more bass than anything I have ever heard (INCLUDING my friend's dad's Boss Lifestyle 35 setup)!!! I can't say enough about this system besides BUY IT!!! If you want more info on my 'cheap' yet amazing system, e-mail me and I will be happy to reply. -JB

Strength:

Price, good sound quality at low to medium levels

Weakness:

None for this price range

I got these speakers a little while ago and have been nothing but pleased with their performance. They sound great for music at low to medium volume levels and are excellent for home theatre. Throughout most volume levels, the sound remains balanced without tweaking tone or speaker balance. This is a nice surprise from an inexpensive set of speakers. Particularly, I've been happy with how rich and balanced the sound is at very low music listening levels.

The sub seems sufficient for higher volume, but the edge speakers don't seem too well suited to a very large room. If you have a big hall to fill these are not for you.

I had been using a few old sets of speakers for main and surround and a newer polk center channel, but had no sub. Since I wanted a sub and only one of my speakers was worth keeping, this system was perfect for me.

I might try throwing my polk center channel speaker back into the mix, but I think the edge speaker does a fine job there and might stay with it for the sake of a perfectly matched setup. For now, anyway, the edge stays.

For the price, these are a can't-lose investment. I would definately buy them again.

Strength:

Sound Quality, design, mounting brackets, price

Weakness:

None, for price and size of speakers.

I have been very satisfied with the sound quality from these speakers. I've had friends come over and listen to them that have much bigger and more expensive speakers and they are really impressed with the sound from mine. They sound great whether playing CD's, listening to the tuner or watching DVD's. The Sub is more than ample for movies and music. If you are trying to build a home theater with a low budget, as I was, buy these; you won't be disappointed!
