Strength:

Good drivers, hold up to abuse well. Very clean sound.

Weakness:

Bass not real good without boost in origional box.

I purchased a pair of these speakers several years ago. My teenage son used them on his 75 watt Marantz receiver. They played quite loud and clean, and held up to lots of abuse and bass boost. Recently, I took them apart and was surprised to find a very well built woofer with large AlNiCo magnet. These aren't cheap drivers. I put them in a larger, more complex box (TQWP). This let the drivers produce much more and better bass. I believe these speakers were put in a small box for comercial reasons. They really need a large, old fasioned type of box to really sing! Great DIY project material for those so inclined.

How do I get the 2-inch tweeter repaired? There is a stick on the tweeter that says that if it disassembled then it is Void of repair. And if I want to get it fixed I have to go to a Zenith Distributor and get it repaired.

Strength:

Smooth response. Loud. Strong bass down to about 40-50hz.

Weakness:

Possible break down due to age. Bass cuts off at 40-50hz.

These speakers are a great value! The cones don't have a foam surround which means no foam rot. They arn't meant for concert volumes but they do play rather loud. They can take quite a bit of power too. I had my Pioneer SX-980 cranked to the cut off point (80 watts RMS, 160 Peak) and they played clean and loud! With music, the bass is smooth but lacks the punch needed to make you feel the bass drum unless you turn up the bass knob which makes the bass boomy. I suggest that you use a nice punchy Sub with these. With movies, go ahead and crank up the bass! Your friends will try to find the sub! The bass only has a hint of boomyness when used for movies (which adds to the effect). I just thought I would mention, I had a problam with one of the tweeters cutting out. I replaced the tweeters only to find it was the crossover network. After I soldered the break in the wire, it worked perfectly. Make sure to check this if the tweeters go out.

Strength:

Good bass

My father purchased these speakers new in 1975 (I believe) and gave them to me in 1995. I have been using them with my computer since then and have been very satisfied. I hooked them up to my Yamaha CA-610 and haven't looked back since! The clarity and volume that they are capable of is greater than any other computer speaker system I've ever heard before. Granted, they're not excellent speakers, but they've worked fabulously for me!

Not the most accurate things on Earth...

I picked these babies up used in a classified ad for $20 (Canadian) over 5 years ago, and they have served me well. My dad remembered them from way back and when he saw a pair up for sale that cheap we grabbed them and they have worked great. I've taken them apart and played with them a bit, added some fill to try to change the sound a bit, etc. but overall these are a pretty good sounding speaker (considering the cheap name, their age, and the fact that they cost me 20 bucks). They have decent bass response and can play at fairly reasonable volume (enough to regularly piss off the girls who live upstairs, at least) and have been really good to me over hte years. I would highly reccomend these as a cheap used purchase, as long as you can listen to them first and the cones aren't damaged (they are pretty old after all).

I am a student, so I can't afford to buy a great pair of speakers right now, and these were ideal for me. I got them back in high school and I'm now in my 3rd year of university and they're still going. Right now I have a pair of Cerwin Vega VS-120s on loan, which of course can overpower the Zeniths, but since I still have a modestly powered Pioneer reciever it won't be too painful to go back to the Allegros in the summer.

Basically, these are a decent sounding, decent cranking speaker that will serve a student or anyone else on a tight budget well.
