Strength:

Mid-Range and Highs very crisp

Weakness:

Bass reproduction is muffled. Requires 6 ohm Amp.

I purchased a pair from Best Buy for $516 with tax. These speakers do not reproduce real deep bass even with the 15" woofers. The nominal impedance is 6 ohms and will not work with many receivers including mine. The treble and midrange sound was very crisp and more than adequate. The back of the speakers are fully laminated and equipped with 5-way binding posts. I returned these speaks and purchased the
AR-P428PS based upon another guys review. He was correct they are great speakers. I would recommend the AR-P428PS from JandR.com for $398(pair)if you are looking for some great speakers.

Strength:

Nice high/mid range. Great looking pair of speakers. Bass is not as loud as a sub woofer but reproduces bass instruments perfectly.

I've had these speakers for a couple of months and I love them. All my jazz and classical CD's sound absolutely incredible. My loud top 40 music makes me feel I'm at a live dance club like For Pete's Sake in downtown Oak Harbor, WA. I recommend these speakers to anyone that likes to listen to music at any volume level. These speakers sound great even at soft volume levels and do not distort at high levels. Bravo Yamaha for making great speakers.

Strength:

Price, quality, looks, size

Weakness:

Bass is a little light if you have a weaker receiver/amp that is less than 100 watts per channel

These are fabulous speakers for the price. I picked up a pair of these at Best Buy incredibly for only $299. They are very crisp and clear sounding on a variety of music. The bass is a little light for home theater despite the 15" woofer unless you have a powerful enough (100+ watt) receiver/amp driving them. However, they sound fantastic and provide plenty of bass when driven by my Pioneer Elite VSX-26TX. They fit nicely in a fairly small footprint although they are quite heavy (56 lbs each) when you do have to move them. These were absolutely the best sounding main speakers I could find anywhere for under $500, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who loves music and movies.

Strength:

Design!

Weakness:

6-ohm abnormal nominal impedence

This item compares to all of the rest that reside in my collection of Loudspeakers. --All of which sound fantastic if they're connected to the right type of amp. (See Similar Products Used) I don't quite have the funding to invest in some of the more vintage stuff that I'd realy enjoy having as a part of my collection. (Altec 515-B's, and other Vintage "Voice of Theater" components; JBL Signature Series D130's, horns, and mids.) I can't say that these speakers can even begin to compare to some of that vintage stuff.

Currently, I'm using two Crown amplifiers to power these beasts. I'm not sure how the impedence compares to that of the speakers. But, for now, I can't afford to buy specific components....cause I'm still in college. But, I do recommend a Crown DC-150A series II for the highs and a Crown DC-300A Series II for the side firing subs. Get the older versions of these amps for more dynamic headroom. The sound coming from these spaekers will then be quite ear-pleasing. And, I'm only using an older higher end Sony ES receiver's pre-amp section. --Remember, I'm still poor...So, I have to use my brain and a little persistance to find some older, higher end components to make things work.

I couldn't pass up these speakers for this "last item only" $190 price.

5 Stars for the value considering I paid only 1/3 of the MSRP

5 Stars for the Overall raiting. ---Directly related to the Crown amps and the higher end Sony ES receiver/pre-amp.

DON'T BUY THESE SPEAKERS AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR SOUND QUALITY IF YOU DON'T HAVE A POWERFUL AMPLIFIER TO POWER THEM. ALSO COORDINATE IMPEDIENCE MATCH BETWEEN SPEAKERS AND AMP. BI-AMP IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO.

Strength:

Wonderful sound, looks, build quality, price

Weakness:

None

For $299 a pair these can't be beat. I have them as mains connected to a Yamaha HTR-5280 receiver and the sound quality with both music and movies is fantastic. Bass response is also very good with a high quality, high powered receiver like the one I have. I couldn't find a better pair of main speakers for twice the price...

Strength:

Imposing-looking 15" woofers
Clear sound
Internal cross-over

Weakness:

None!

These speakers are awesome - I just wish I had enough amplifier to power them properly. Some people here have complained about the bass response, well, I've actaully had to turn the bass below the average setting on my speakers. To get the bass to sound right you need to have the room and the speakers configured properly. Of course, it would just be easier for most people to get a free standing sub woofer, but it that won't provide the clarity and exactness of these speakers.
