Strength:

Excellent sound, plenty of bass, included spikes, ability to bi-wire easily

Weakness:

made worrying noises from the tweeter when breaking in!

Very nicely made speaker. I bought them from a reputable UK dealer and im sure they are made in the UK. Maybe the US ones are made in china or somewhere (?). I was slightly worried when the tweeter in one of them started cracking at all volume levels, but after reading on the web and email to wharfedale that others had similar experience, i was told to wait and it would cure itself. That must have been a whole year ago, and ive had not a single problem since. They are nice and loud, and can be bi-amp/bi-wired, although ive only gor Single QED Qudos cable atm.
Hopefully i will hear an improvement when i go bi wire!

Strength:

Good sound for the money, lots of bass.

Weakness:

Grills breaking already- Bass to boomy on some CDs

Great speaker for the money. Sound keeps getting better as I upgrade my equipment. Went from Sony STR-DE835 to NAD C340 integrated, much better sound. Upgraded connectors and speaker wire for small improvement. Most improvement came from changing CD player from cheap Sony to Arcam CD72. Didn't think these speakers could sound this good. Now looking for better speakers but having trouble finding much better in the $1000 range.

Grills, Shipping and handling charge from ubid

I also use these speakers for my home theater system. Nice highs, mids, and decent base. But I suggest a seperate woofer. I also biwired the speakers and the highs from the tweeter are much more clear. I will never buy from ubid again, however when my speaker didn't come with floor mounts (screws) IAG was great with their CS. Listening to music is also very good but it most certainly needs time to burn. Approx. 20 hours. Not for "high end" or "audiophiles"

First of all, no true audiophile would be buying these speakers. However, for the rest of us who don't have the money to buy $2000 speakers, these are a great buy. Its hard to think that Bob(the guy below me) knows anything about speakers because He obviously does not know how to spell. I have owned my Sapphires for just about six months now and they are sounding better everyday. These speakers do make a "popping" noise when they are turned up but that goes away after you break them in for at least twenty hours. In order to get the best sound out of these speakers you have to use the included spikes and you also must put them at least two meters apart from each other, another thing that makes them sound nicer is to put them at an angle so that they are facing you. I KNOW these speakers are great buy because my freind owns a pair of Mirage loudspeakers that cost twice as as much as the Warfedales, however the Warfedales sound twice as good as the Mirage Ones. I don't work at Ubid. Ubid is a site that charges way to much for shipping and their service is very lacking. Fortunity there are some other places on the web to buy these speakers if you know where to look.

Strength:

WOW!!! Excellent highs and lows

Just got the speakers yesterday and I have to agree with most of you. These are a great pair of speakers for the price at Ubid. I have tried B&W, Cerwin Vegas, Infinity and other high-end speakers and I have to say that the Sapphires 87 go face to face with any speaker 3 times more expensive.

Good bass response, excellent highs and very clear sound.

I will update my review in a few weeks after I put these babies to a good test.

$1600 max bid ? Right. I would have to agree with some other reviews that these speakers could not be worth that much. But for the price paid they are a great choice for my bedroom system. I have them bi-wired to a Denon AVC-700 and use an older CD player, a Denon DCD-920 (mfgd 1989) They are still being broken in but in a 14x22 room they provide ample sound.

A customer service note:
I bought the Sapphire 87 on Ubid for 142 each. When I tried to play them at moderate/high volume, I heard a popping sound. I thought there was something hokey going on - 'B' / gray market or some such. I called ubid and they gave me the number for IAG electronics (1-877-440-0888), who was handling the warranty service. I called, told them what was happening, and they sent 2 new speakers, AND return labels (PRE PAID!) to ship them back. I was impressed! I got them 2 days ago, hooked 'em up, cranked it, and...MORE POPPING! I called back IAG and spoke with Jeff. He explained that the noise I was hearing was from the bass drivers, which need to be broken in for approximately 40 hours at moderate volume. When getting a quick impulse from a good amp (I have the NAK AV-7 also - awesome) the driver can't keep up. The suspension on them is tight for quick response, and they are rated up to 400 watts, the 150 watt limitation is on the tweeter. He was extremely knowledgeable about the products, and we talked for about 15 minutes. He recommended the Music center channel, which I may buy. He said that if had taken my original call, he would have explained all this to me, and there probably would not be a need for the replacement speakers. I have my originals running right now at home while I'm at work, to break them in. He said their Wharfedale account was very important to them, and they wanted customers to be satisfied. He said that if they don't meet my expectations after the break in, then call and we can discuss switching to Music 8's or 1.6's. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!!! Sorry to skew the ratings, but this has to go somewhere!

Strength:

Prices and Sound. They also look good.

Weakness:

To almost three weeks to get here. Shipping cost were high and these two things are not the speakers fault

Actually this review is about the SP88s. These were my first speaker oline orders ever. They did not disapoint me. The quality was supurb and the price just can't be beat. I was your usual Bestbuy/Curcuit City type byer. These sound much better than the JBL Yamaha stuff you see in the big chain stores.

Strength:

price, smooth mids and highs

Weakness:

grills

First, be careful with the grills, mine came with a tab broken off, but IAG overnighted me a new one. Some other companies could take a lesson in customer service from IAG.

I didn't have any popping noises or crackling tweeters, and everything worked great out of the box. They do sound better with break-in, in fact, the more I use them, the better they sound. I'm still not sure if I like the blue speakers, but I just keep the grills on.

They are being fed by Yamaha components and paired to a Phase Technology sub. I can't comment on low bass response because I have not listened to them without the sub, but the mids and highs seem very neutral and smooth. They are not at all fatiguing or harsh to listen to, and have handled anything from Eric Clapton to Ozzy. It really pays to play with speaker placement as well.

Nothing that I have listened to, even in the $1000+ range has made me want to get rid of the Wharfedales.
