Strength:

Cool concept and a conversation starter

Weakness:

Sound quality

These speakers aren't for everyone!

First off, they're kinda cool if you like odd things in your house.
Other than that, if your looking for top notch sound reproduction you're barking up the wrong tree. Their sound is just alright, but not great! The highs that a tweeter would normally pick up just aren't there. Bass? The sub they come with is okay for lite listening in a small room. Nobody seems to be saying just how big the sub is. Don't be fooled by the picture on Wharfedale's website. The actual cone measures 5 inches...No more!
I can't say anything about the plastic frames, because mine came in pine "real wood" frames.
Buy a set if you want something most people haven't seen before, because they are sort of cool.
But, if you're looking for quality sound reproduction save your money and put it into something better.
They aren't something I'll show off proudly!

Strength:

Cool looking.

Weakness:

Have to glue pictures on.

I use these for the rear speakers in my ht system. They look great and sound alot better than the set of old pioneer rears that I had. The cool thing is that they come with a sub. I am using a velodyne sub in front with a pair of Klipsh Sf1's as mains, the wharfedales in the rear with their sub. It sounds great! My wife loves them and they are a great conversation starter.

Strength:

Very inconspicious (actuall you need to camaflage you speake wires to be perfect.. good sound.. not great but these are flat panels

Weakness:

really cant be played very loud without distortion do look kind of cheap.. but this can be fixed with wood grained contact paper

Well if these didnt have a sub they would prob be garbage.. but it does have a sub to compensate for lack of low freq.
I found these to be excellent for a room that has no space for a conventional speaker system or good rear speakers for a HT system . These could have been a bit larger for placing art prints in the frame or could have had optional size frames for add-on option. I think they are very good sounding at moderate volumes... the below reviewer complains aboul plastic frames this is true but if you go get some good ole contact paper in your favolite wood design and a little patience you can make em look like file art frames) (I did this and also buried rca ribbon wire behind wallpaper) I have thes hanging in my bedroom and they couldnt have found a better home. They do require a bit of power to get any decent sound out of them (at least 25 watts). And anyone buying flatpanels should know beforehand that they arent gonna sound like towers. At moderate volumes ide rate these a 4 for sound quality (3 at louder volumes) and ide give em a 4 overall just cuz their a good conversation starter.. and they are cool! (LOL)

Strength:

Great sound and very flashy

Weakness:

frames stand proud of the wall when hung

I have these as my computer/music room speakers hooked up to a NAD 3100 amp.
The sound really is excellent and now that richersounds have em for £80 theya are a bargin!
Suggest you get there quick since I had to wait for a fresh delivery... also you need to mention that you saw the price in whathifi since the instore price is £120.

For £80 these are tangfastic ... sound nearly as good as my £300 B&W602's

I would recomend them for excellent rear surrounds or for anyone rich enough (not me then!) buy two sets and hang a pair either side of a plasma telly .. not sure what you would use for a centre speaker!

some reviews below say the frames are plastic... maybe they are in the US (why use wood when theres a manmade alternative!) .. but my speakers are real pine (whoah!)and look nice (not gorgeous .. but certainly not ugly)

If you can get your mitts on a pair of these for the money they are great

Strength:

none i can think of

Weakness:

everything i can think of

if youre used to £10 PC speakers, youll find these GREAT !! otherwise any £100 box speaker is vastly superior in sound quality.

on paper (!) the specs read well, but its all theory over reality.

perhaps a large 2m x 2m panel will sound good, but then theres no point anymore.

also - WIRES ! unless youre willing to cut into your wall/paper, having visible wires TOTALLY defeats the point of 'the look'.

and whos gonna start modifying walls for plastic sounding 'toy' speakers ?

good idea - poorly implemented. kind of like TFT monitors, flat + thin, but nowhere near as good picture as conventional tube displays.

Strength:

no real strong points

Weakness:

takes some juice to gas em up

Im not going to be extreme and go off like the reviewer a few reviews back... I knew what I was buying. I didnt expect audiophile sound and I didnt get it either. What I got was a good set of Rear channel flat speakers for my HT.
These are an excellant choice as a rear channel speaker. takes up no-room and you can put a 19x22 poster print in them to cover the white panel. (this does not effect the sound) plastic frames.. yes but as another reveiwer mentioned a little contact paper and an exacto knife and you got a simulated wood frame. im sorry someone so critical of the frames didnt think of this)
Now to the speakers themself Good sound with the PASSIVE subwoofer attached.. without the sub sound thin and bright.
These dont even begin to sound right till you give them some real watts..(not a speaker for somone with a 50 wpc receiver). Now when they get linear you have a speaker (sub attached) that i would rate between a 3-4.. if you add to many watts the sound worse (rated at 70 watts and thats pretty accurate) I tested these as both stereo speakers and HT rears.. as fronts I wouldnt put them in a room bigger than 12x12. the sound is non directional so there is no soundstage but they arent that bad for casual listening. OK for home theater as back or side channels.(where soundstage isnt and issue) they do a very good job.. they dont need a symetrical placement like box speakers. as a rear speaker compared to other HT rear speakers a solid 4. If you have a hight powered system that you crank up.. these will dissapoint.. but at 50-70 watts of input. these will do the job.. sure they are cheap looking, sorta cheap sounding, but remember one key point... they are cheap.. and like others befor have commented. they really are cool.

Strength:

Can't See where the sound is coming from - very trick
Good clarity from panels

Weakness:

sub is a bit boomy boomy
can't decide how to hide the speaker cable

For 100 squid you can't go wrong. For running in purposes I have disconnected my mission m71's and played the loud panels exclusively. I leave the cd player on repeat while i go to work and the 50 hours running in time flies by !!!

Good clarity from the panels although they could be a little bigger in size. Can't decide what print to put on the panel but its hardly something for an audiphile to worry about is it ?

Strength:

Good clarity from the panels
Discreet sound application
nice looking frames (why are these reviewers dissing them)
Fluid integration with the subwoofer

Weakness:

wooly subwoofer requires careful room placement
hide the wires connecting up to the frames

This is an excellent system and for only £100 from hifibitz on the net - an unbelievably cheap aquisition - considering the original price of £300 !!! - nonsense.

For £100 you could purchase lots of different bookshelf speakers inc. mission, kef, tannoy etc which will blow the loud panels away for sonic performance. but thats not the point.

i set them up with my kenwood cd and amp and although they do not go really really cloud - they give a good clear mid range and deep base - make sure your rooms not too big. The trick is showing your friends and letting them guess where the sound is coming from. for ultimate concealment - scrape a trench in your wall - stick your speaker in leading up to the frames and polyfill over. scrape the excess flush and paint over - very very trick indeed.

your mates will envy you - women will want to be with you.

your life is complete. get a set today.

remember to run them in for 50 hours. do what i do. stick in on medium volume, press repeat button on the cd player and bugger off to work for a 8 hours. do this for a week. sorted.

Strength:

The clarity of mid/high range, never heard before

Weakness:

Relatively low sensitivity

A sort of "hard to believe" product - all are so used to a "classic" stereotype. The first time I've tested NXT panels sound was a PC speaker's sound, so Wharfedale's product wasn't a surprise for me - I knew the potential of technology itself. No crossover filtering in a midrange, no signal phase "rotation", no interference effects of a "coherent" sound... This all made the speakers sound wonderfully clear and detailed. Even a small subwoofer is really a well done one, but as usual it's a kind of problem to find an optimal place for a better sound. Nevertheless I do find this model as maybe the best choice in Hi-Fi class. At least I've found no limitation in reproduction of all the music styles. In my views for future I see only an NXT panel home sound - it's really a revolutionary breakthrough in sound reproduction technology since the very beginning...

Strength:

Very pleasing on the eye. Good quality sound and deeper bass responce than my front floorstanders.

Weakness:

Seperate passive-sub which takes up space.

I have installed the speakers on the rear channel of my Yamaha DSP A5 hometheater system. The cables are hidden surprising most people, who go looking for a conventional speaker.

Considering that the speakers usually retail for between R2600 - R3300 and I only paid R1000 I beleive that I got quite a bargain.

The sound quality is so good that I have even used them on by B main speaker channel for stereo listening.

the 50 hours required for "playing in" is a bit painfull but I will have to wait just a bit longer before really experimenting...
