These Large floor standing Australian Kit speakers are amazing value at $1400 Aus. With a very high sensitivity of 96db, they are capable of pumping out very high sound levels from modest HT amps.
Perfect for use in a HT setup.

We originally purchased these units to go with a Yamaha RXV-692 sorround sound amplifier and they worked very well, Lots of bass and a nice clean sound. We recently purchased a Unison Research simply two valve amp (approx 12 watts/channell). Initially we thought they were a little too bright but once we fitted decent interconnects from the CD player (AMC CD-8a) and Bi-wired the speakers they sounded superb and had excellent sound staging. Teamed up with the right equipement these speakers are really good value, especially if you build them youself.

Strength:

Very sentisive,94db/watt. No crossover colouration.

Weakness:

They are such good value I got another pair for rear duties on DVD and possible DVD Audio!

I started the Vafs on Arcam Alfa 8 amp(50W)and heard a really big sound, clipping only on 3/4 voloume with big orchestral work. As my equipment improved the DC-X were more than up to producing the sound-stage and imaging required.Krell 300i with Arcam Alfa 8SE HDCD CD player was STUNNING!! But it was only when i conected the Audible Illusions Modulus 3 Pre-Amp That the claritiy of valves through the DC-X really excelled. I run Martin Login Monolith 3 through the Modulus with a Carver 760-AX driving them. The DC-X supply 120 Hz and below. This is no mean feat keeping up with electrostatics!!As a full range speaker they are the closest to the transperency of electrostatic speakers i have ever heard. If you want excellent speakers that give $5000.00 speakers a run for there money ,this is them.

Strength:

Price,sound,built really well.

Weakness:

ERMM?? Because VAF only sell from their showroom in Adelaide its pretty hard to demo them. But interstate Aussies should think about spending a weekend here and have a demo at the same time. You'll save money on other brands AND get a holiday!

These speakers are without a doubt exceptional value for money ($Aus 1300 as a kit with cabinets).VAF do not retail through stores so, it seems that they can be more than competetive with their pricing.
They sound incredible, I believe you would have to spend more than double the money, to get anywhere near the all round response from any other speaker. The speaker has a nice bass response and performs wery well in all areas. The quality is very good and I would say that if you are looking for real value for money you could not go wrong. I LOVE EM. I'm saving for the VAF DC6 (centre) and DC7 (for the rear)to complete my set up. VAF also have a sub available.
The DC-X speakers would be ideal for someone looking for MUSICAL speakers first, with the ability to handle movies as well.
I recommend them highly.

Demo'ed heaps of gear but after hearing these, the choice was pretty simple really.
