NONE

Weakness:

Terrible bass, terrible sound, terrible quality

Ok all i have to say about these speakers is if you are planning on buying cheap speakers like this, DONT! These are by far the worst speakers i have ever heard or bought. I had them for about a month when i wanted to play them with my friends Yamaha bookshelf speakers with a 8" woofer and the yamahas blew them away, in sound and bass. There was no comparasin. Then about a week later i started to hear a strange sound near the woofer and it turned out the something was wrong with the woofer and i had to return the speakers, in one month. I am never going to buy something from Technics again and i would reccomend you buying them either.

Strength:

Nice cabnit, great bass, good highs, LOOK COOL.

Weakness:

its hard to push the spring connectors on the back.

I realy like these speakers, in a few mounths im going to upgrade to the 15in Technics, what i did to these speakers my self to get even mor bass is braid the wires on the drivers, put in insulation, and cut down some of the plastic on the back of the blowhole so more air comes out, THESE SPEAKERS ROCK BUY THEM.

Strength:

Great sound, NICE bass, nice to look at.

Weakness:

None in my opinion, I love em.

Picture this. My roommate has two 300 watt Jensen J1 speakers as fronts and we have my two of these 200 watt Technics as rears. Just let me say that the Technics have a 3" larger woofer. They blow away the Jensen's in not only sound quality at low and high volumes but also bass output. These things put off so much bass that my pant legs were shaking at 10-15 feet away. I got them at the employee discount at circuit city for $65 each. For $65 you cannot beat this sound, you just can't.

Strength:

Clear highs, adequate midrange, good build, attractive oak finish, nice grille.

Weakness:

Poor bass response from such large woofers.
Spring jacks.

I like this particular model of speaker because they sound fine, are well-built and designed, and come cheap. Even paying MSRP of $99 each would not be a ripoff.
The build quality is much, much better than my old KLHs, which of course blew due to my sound card's output being set at too high a level (my honest mistake, not KLH's--even still, KLH isn't such a good brand). The SB-CR77s are quite attractive too, and command an absurd amount respect from most of my friends who come over.
What I noticed about these speaks as soon as I listened to them was they produce a surprisingly well-defined sound. Highs and mids are very clear. One could want more bass from those gigantic 12" woofers; that's my only gripe. However, this won't be a problem for me anymore, since I just upgraded with a subwoofer and Onkyo receiver (HT bug got me!).
I noticed that the spring jacks in back are a little restrictive, and I should think that a 12-gauge wire wouldn't fit in them. No biggie. I use cheap 18 gauge wire anyways. $80 more for some Monster Cable wire won't make these speakers sound any different.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my decision to buy these speakers. Of course I'd like instead some Klipschs or Polks or NHTs...but I barely make enough money to buy the cheap stuff. Nevertheless, I know what good sound is. Overall I say these speakers, at their cost, are a 5 on value and 4 overall.

P.S.
I'm looking for a center channel...I use these as fronts and Polk R10s as rears. I don't know too much about Technics center channels, but I'd like to make my front as seamless as possible. I was actually thinking BIC DV-32CLR. Anyone who would like to help me out just throw me an E-mail (click on my name above). Many thanks. -MR

Strength:

Awesome Bass and power capicity

Weakness:

Poorly Designed Crossover - Overheats and shuts down woofer

A nice set of speakers well worth retail, nevermind what i paid for them. Solid Bass you can depend on. My only complainr : the Crossover was not designed to handle the power the components can. However, the crossover is perfectly matched, hence the nice bass. I'm currently trying to get ahold of Technics for a replacement.

Strength:

In The price range they are in there is nothing better. To correct this review the sb-cr77 are the 12in woofer model.

Weakness:

Not a very solid cabinet.

I bought these in christmas of 98 and I have been very happy with them they have held up well to my abuse. I upgraded the woofers in 2000 to the ones used in the sb-lx70, which are better in bass response. I would recommend these speakers to anybody shopping in this price range.

Strength:

Loud, and Cheap....that's about it.

Weakness:

Cheap, Horrible sound, Muddy Bass, cheap foam surround, paper cones, cheap speaker wire inputs, etc etc etc

I don't own these speakers, but do work for a company who sells them, so I've had plenty of occasions (unfortunately) to listen to them. I have requests all the time about re-coning these and other Technics speakers, they are cheaply made and it shows. The sound is horrid, the bass, while loud, is totally undefined, all you hear is "BOOM BOOM" which I know a lot of you like, but the sound honestly sucks. While I really dislike these speakers, I can't give them a 1 for value b/c they are so cheap, but my suggestion is that if you have any musical taste whatsoever, you won't like the low quality of sound these give you. If you want a loud big boxy speaker and don't mind that they aren't giving you good sound, or if you just want to impress your friends with how much bass you can produce, then go for it.

I think that this speaker is excellent for the price. I especially like the performance too! They sound very good on my Sony STR-DE525 reciever and they produce window shaking bass. I would recommend them to people who are looking for a good speaker for a not so expensive price. I got them for $99 each. If you are thinking about a pair of main speakers, head out to an electronics store like circuit city and listen to them and see what you think.
