Strength:

I've owned these for close to 20 years and they continue to deliver. The clarity and loudness and even amount of bass they have for their size is outstanding. Pick up a pair on eBay for 30 bucks. I guarantee you will be happy.

None that I can find

These speakers are absolutely and positively great! I often shop the Goodwills and folks, let me tell you, I find some really great deals, unbelievable. Out of all the great gear I've found in the past, I found these lil' kickers for $4.99 plus tax. I'm looking on the net, and continuing to keep my eyes open for another pair in local Goodwills to purchase another pair. I use these with a pair of Sony SA-VA15's, which I also found for $45.00 plus tax at another Goodwill and the Sony CDP-CX100 for $19.95...yup, at Goodwill.
I have this set-up in my office with a tablet p.c.also connected on the SAVA's 2nd input.
I originally had them in my 3rd bedroom using the Sony STR-D350Z, YUP, again, at another Goodwill.

sound and price; can't beat them.

Weakness:

none

I use these speakers in the front with my Sony receiver STRDE 475, a Sony sub-woofer model WMP20, and rear speakers Bose Acoustimass 3. They sound great; very nice surround sound with my Sony DVD player S530.

Strength:

Good power handling, Nice dynamic range, Smooth overall sound, Of course the price

Weakness:

None detected as of yet

I recently had to move to a new room in my dorm facility due to some renovations. Unfourtunatly my new quarters are a bit more confined and I was forced to conserve space. Of course I had to cave and replace my computer speakers. A tear was shed as my JBL D315s went into storage, but all was forgoten when I first heard these fellas. Wow was all I could say at first, they took me by complete suprise. I was looking for an affordable alternative to substitute, but these little guys really impress. Not the most impressive speakers under the sun, but small units for under $100 producing lifelike sound like these two is almost unheard of!! A subwoofer isn't neccissary in my situation, but is recommended if you plan to use these in a medium to large room. They would make fabulous surround speakers in an inexpensive system. I personaly like the style of this speaker, (just because a speaker looks flashy doesn't save it from sounding like junk). The suspended grille design makes for a appealing addition to my computer desk. Enjoy :D

Strength:

-Clear and tight through the higher freq's. -Reasonably powerful

Weakness:

For the price, you can't find one.

Woa! Ditto all the comments above. As an ex-audio enthusiast, I accepted that marriage, family and finances would change the look and feel of my system. No longer placed on center stage of a dorm room, my system has dwindled from massive state-of-the-art separates to small (but still decent) components that can be tucked away or blended with my wife's constant re-decorating. Her intent on hiding speakers borders on obsession. So a recent purchase of some Klipsch SB1B's resulted in them stashed behind a recliner and a sofa. This really challenged their performance, but also exposed the weakness of our "B" system in the adjoining room. Not wanting to drop another $250, I started shopping, staying away from the high-end stores. After reading reviews here, I ended up at Best Buy to listen to the KLH low-end line. I compared those to the JBL line-up they had, and then some Yamaha's. It was almost a mistake that I saw the Sony's, because they were tucked away in a corner of the speaker section. Once I listened to the SSMB100's, I thought there was something wrong with the pricing ("Is this price per speaker, or per pair?"). The sound in the store was incredibly better than all those mentioned--excellent dynamic range, clear, tight mid- and high freq, and reasonable low-end (actually better than I expected for the size). I tested all the speakers with the same source music (a cool feature at Best Buy), and the 100's even sounded better than the SSMB200 and 300's, which were positioned right next to the 100's. They blew away the KLH's, and many of the higher priced JBL's. Needless to say, I bought these bad boys. Got 'em home, hooked 'em up, and gave 'em a listen. Now, I won't say that they're every bit as good as my new Klipsch's, but they're pretty damn close. They lag a little on the power, and the performance certainly drops off near the 50hz level. But I'm convinced that there's no better speaker for $50, and maybe not even for $150. These guys are a "must have" for people who lean towards un-plugged music. Add a sub and you're filling the SSMB100's only flaw. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Strength:

Powerful enough watt-wise to use as rear speakers. Reasonably priced for Sony's. Sharp, clear, crisp, life-like sound. Solid cabinet, yet still light. Sony audio quality.

Weakness:

No midrange. So, better used as rear surround speakers than front main speakers. No other I know of.

Due to this pair of speakers only having a woofer and tweeter, I bought them to use as rear speakers for my compact Sony stereo system. They have been sensational and excellent! What Sony lacks in their home video equipment, they more than make up for in their audio equipment! They have a very sharp, clear, crisp, life-like sound. They have a solid cabinet. I have not heard any distortion from them like I have from other brands made similar with the same watts. I will be honest. With no midrange, I do not use these for front speakers or suggest anyone else does. But they do work very well as rear surround speakers! I highly recommend them for that.

Strength:

Great magnetic shielding Polyolefine Woofers Rubber surrounds Power handling Unusualy great fidelity, and natural sound for its price and size Excellent value!! A steal at $25 each!!!

Weakness:

No mounting facilities May require subwoofer for larger rooms

I must say I was truly impressed by their fidelity, crispness, tightness, and warm character of the sound. Every nuance of the instruments came through with sparkling clarity and realism unheard of from a SONY speaker, or any speaker within its price range. I tried several types of music, especially Jazz and anything with punchy percussion, brass, and vocals. The SONY SSM-B100H bookshelves passed all my torture tests with flying colors! Vocals had a warm and satisfying presence to them. Dynamics were punchy and tight. Overall the tonal balance was very satisfying and pleasant to listen to. Highs were very natural sounding, with absolutely no sign of over-the-top ringy treble, just clear, sparkling music! Bass is obviously a bit deficient (only 80 Hz) so you may want to use a subwoofer. For those with relatively small rooms, this may not be an issue, since these speakers did give off some okay bass for its size. These speakers also held out very well at high volumes, with little or no audible distortion! I even had the guts to try these with movies and was impressed again. Physically, these speakers are not much of a feast for the eyes, but are attractive nonetheless. They are also pretty heavy for their size. Their construction is quite solid. I’m happy to see that SONY did not cheap down and use cardboard woofers with foam surrounds. My only complaints are that there are no mounting facilities on the speaker at all. A mounting keyhole would have been nice. I’m also not too attracted to its grill, which stands about an inch away from the actual front of the speaker and folding in on the bottom, just under the SONY logo. I almost prefer the grills off. At $25 each, who am I to complain? I’ve tried countless other budget bookshelf speakers of all price ranges ($70-$160 pairs) and some couldn’t hold a candle to the level of performance put out by these unassuming little things. These speakers are good enough that I would dare to say that they would make for great main stereo speakers in a home theater. Sure you could go out and buy a better bookshelf speaker, but it’ll cost you……it’ll cost you a lot more. But if you’re in a very tight budget, $50 for a remarkable pair of speakers is just too good to resist!!!!!

Strength:

Very loud and very clear. Compact design, easy placement. Great price for a great speaker.

Weakness:

none that i can see

I bought these for rear speakers, but my Yamahas had not arrived yet so they were in the front. They dont really give bass, but they're not suppose to. I ordered a Yamaha YST-305 for that. These are great speakers for the price and will go very loud with no distortion.
