Strength:

Excellent, punchy and controlled bass if placed in the right spots, nice mids and very clear highs.

Weakness:

Vinyl finish, not bad but at this price point would like something better. Quite choosy as to placement, bass gets boomy if placed in corners. Takes long time to sound at its best and really requires decent amp and cables.

Got these at the local electronic shop for AUS $1300. I am really surprised that Sony manufactured something as good sounding as these. Excellent quality (except for vinyl finish, really should be timber veneer), incredibly solid, can be bi-amped and have spikes. All in all a very solid speaker.

Took them a little while to settle down into their best and it took me a bit of time and experimentation to find the best spot for them. For some reason, although these are front-ported they don't like being too close to corners. The 10 cm suggested in the manual is rubbish: these will need at least 50 cm. A fair bit of space on all sides resulted in excellent, punchy bass, highs are crystal clear. Mids could be better in music: sometimes there is a bit of underlying boxines to voices. That mainly shows at veryu high listening levels.

Strength:

Bass, highs, mids, what more can you say?

Weakness:

Crappy cable supplied with product.

These speakers are really unbeatable for the price. I paid $1300AUD. Bass is huuuuuuge, highs are crystal clear and mids cannot be improved upon. I am running these with a Sony STR-DE835 reciever. I cannot complain, they are unreal for HT and music. Definately 5 out of 5 for these babies...

I have now used this speaker for more than 6 months. I am really suprised that Sony manufacure of the Best TV has wonderfully constructed this three way floor stander. Believe it or not when I drive this speaker with my Yamaha DSP-A1 believe it or not it has withstood all the massive bass of the DTS DVD's.
Playing music I did not believe in using equalizer. I used the optical output of my Maranz CD player and oh my God, the center music channel was superb with a equaly good tweeters and the two woofer. I would say Sony has built this speaker in challenging the mega speaker manufacures.

Keep it up sony

Strength:

Bass

Weakness:

Extreme lack of treble and high range

Bought these speakers together with the Sony Receiver DA50ES, center speaker, and surround speakers. Adjust the mode of Amp to be "auto decode format" which is direct sound from CD. No equiliser involved. The sound produced is just junk! Lots of bass and extreme lack of highs. Is it true that those speakers with 2 drivers for bass, 1 midrange and 1 tweeter sounds like these. I have tried other floor standing speakers with other amps (at direct sound mode) but they don't sound like this. Extremely fed up with the performance. Anyone care to recommend me ways to improve the quality of the sound? Or recommend me some other good speakers with lots of clarity and detail?
