Strength:

Bargain basment price, strong sound

Weakness:

Size

For the $90 I paid for these, I don't think I could have found a better deal. They're loud, produce high quality sound even when hooked to a low quality reciever, and they make a lot of bass. I was looking at similar products from JBL (much more expensive) and yamaha, but neither sounded as good. If you're looking for fronts or rears for a surround setup, look no further.

Jeff, regarding your review, in all honesty, you must have gotten a defective pair. All those who have listened to mine cannot believe the range and quality of sound that these re-produce. These produce depth, clarity and full sound at low levels, and handle higher inputs without distress. You owe it to yourself to return your pair, and get another. By the way, I am still under the return period for mine, so I have no vested interest in "fooling" myself that these are good bookshelf speakers, they in fact are. Sorry for your sour experience with them.

Strength:

AWESOME speakers! Great Bass! Good price!

Weakness:

NONE!

These are great sounding speakers! I recommend a receiver with good bass output (Pioneer for the budget-minded are great) to make these things rock!

I really didn't think these inexpensive speakers could even compare to ALOT more expensive mains, but they totally sound better than I imagined. Great tight bass!

These things could easily stand up to a $400-500 speaker.

Strength:

Great tight bass, excellent highs - awesome low-mid end speaker

Weakness:

None

Not sure where comments about its lack of bass came from - I was totally surprised. For the price paid (low end speakers), you can't get much better. I've compared these to alot more expensive Mirage & JBL speakers - in this category (smaller bookshelf), I don't see a difference.

Strength:

AWESOME bass (especially on a pioneer receiver)

Weakness:

cheap connectors

This is my second review - I really can't get over how good these speakers are. I know what people say about Sony speakers, but they are totally wrong on THIS model (The later model SS-MB300, and they really are terrible)

They need to be paired with a good bass output receiver, such as a pioneer. With this match, these speakers are some of the best i've ever heard.

Strength:

great sound for the price...every range is very clear, no muddiness

Weakness:

none

for the price and size of the speakers, i didn't expect such good sound to come out of them, i use them with a sony dvd player (dvp s560d) and a kinda of old pioneer receiver (vsx d457), and everything from tv to movies to radio to cds sounds great, big enough sound for a good sized living/family room, especially if u have other surround speakers too. a subwoofer would add nice bass, but these do fine as it is.

Strength:

It was a great speaker for the price, with a reasonable long warrenty. Great bass handling. Not too huge.

Weakness:

I blew the crossover in the first 3 months, but it is under warrenty, so I got it fixed. Not much power handling.

These are great speakers if you don't have a ton of money, like a 15 year old like me does. BUY A SUBWOOFER WITH IT. Oh, don't do the modifications if you have a home theatre sysem! Buy a pair of supporting speakers to go with these.

Weakness:

Clarity, tight suprisingly deep bass extention

After reading the stellar reviews on the 215's "larger siblings" in the product line, I thought I had to check these out. I already had stands available for bookshelf units and was in the market, so..... To begin, as others have stated, Sony was not a company I was considering checking out for bookshelf speakers, but after hearing so many good reviews on this line, out I went. The 215 is an 8" 3-way acc. sus. system, which appears to use the same midrange and h.f. units as it's larger brothers. For $99 a pair I was stunned!! Clarity and definition on these is amazing, and the bass is quite tight and extends quite low to their cut-off point. I would recommend at least 50wpc. to handle louder passages as they are rated at roughly 88dbl. sensitivity. These have a "punch" clarity and musicality I didn't believe was available for the price. If you are in the market for good bookshelf units, check these out!

Strength:

Strong Deep Bass

These are clearly superior speakers, Sony not being known for it's speakers has clearly emerged as a front-runner! I was tempted not to buy them because I had a Sony Receiver that was pure garbage. I read the reviews for some of the other Sony speakers here and decided to give them a try. I found them at Best Buy for 99.00 a pair and Love them! I use them as part of my HT sound system which consists of:

JVC-RX-884 rcvr (Fantastic buy)
Sony center w/ 4 surrounds (in THX setup)
Sony ss-MB215 as the fronts

Get these speakers, they are simply great for the price and even for a higher price they are great (hope Sony doesn't see that :) )
