Strength:

Well rounded sound for a user on a budget

Weakness:

None

I'm currently using these as a couple of low cost rear channel speakers in my HT. For the price, they give you great frequency range and ample power. I think they fit this application well since in an HT setup you really don't need to be concerned with lots bass in the rear..

Strength:

nice build quality, inexpensive

Weakness:

sound bad

I swore I would never buy Sony speakers, but I saw these at Best Buy and I thought they looked pretty good for the price. I used these in a near field environment (for a computer), hooked up to a spare Sony 1011 receiver that I had just replaced with a Dolby Digital one. The 1011 puts out 120 watts a channel, but I would be listening at low levels and the speakers were rated for that. These sounded terrible. The tweeter would crackle and make a fuss during any dynamic change in music. Bass response was alright, but that crackling was intolerable. Took them back and bought some Polk RT 15's at Circuit City. Much better speaker. Maybe they would work better in a different application, who knows? Gotta give em a one unlistenable

Strength:

Incredible sound for the money

Weakness:

A little shy on bass

I started with a DVD player and subwoofer. My wife wanted me to add a surround receiver and speakers for under $500. Well of course I couldn't (and get anything even slightly worth a crap), but thanks to these babies--and their complementary center-fill speaker--I got close.

I took the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over DVD around for comparison, and the Sonys did amazingly well. No, they don't have as much deep bass as the Polks or the Klipsch, but for less than half the money, what the heck? With a subwoofer in the system, you don't really notice, and the rear speakers will still do a dandy depth charge from U-571 or one of The Patriot's cannonballs.

All in all, I'd say Sony has made a wonderful mistake (I'm not sure they would do it on purpose) in offering such good home theater speakers for so low a price.

Strength:

Good bang-for-the-buck

Weakness:

Tweeters not extremely "musical", midrange a little lacking... but for the price I can't complain

I bought these speakers as quick solution so I could listen to some music while home from college. They really surprised me. The woofer is quite sensitive and really moves. The bass is a little shy, but its quality, almost "juicy" bass. The tweeters aren't harsh, but could be crisper and clearer. The speakers sound good (especially considering the price) for light music and home theater. Complicated music (with an abundance of sounds across the range of frequencies) tend make these speakers sound worse. I accredit this to the simple 2-way design and lack of cross-over.

Ignore the last review, I have the MB105's not the MB115's.

Price, Size & Style

Weakness:

None so far...

Very good speakers, don't know why people choose to compare them to Bose. There is no comparison, of course Bose sound better(they should for the prices). I recently upgraded receiver from PL to DD and decided to get speakers with tweets for highs to complete my new set up.
Other products include Sony CR-290 Center & Surround Set, Sony STR-DE635 Receiver and DCM SW-10 Powered Sub-Woofer. Space this system out evenly in a room, strategically locate the speakers and keep the volume low...very effective speakers for the price!!

Strength:

The speaker performs very well all around and blends the sounds together nicely.

Weakness:

The bass output from these speakers is a bit low, but not bad at all considering the size of the bookshelf speakers.

The speakers were a very good value ( $39 ). They perform almost as well as my older set of Bose 301 Sonata series 1. I am very happy with the quality and perfomance of these speakers and would recomend them to anyone looking for a nice bookshelf speakers that dotn cost a fortune.

price, tight base, 3 year warranty

bought these to replace the sony mf315's i returned. my compaint w/ the 315s had to do with bass response--too boomy for my tastes. the mb115s cost me half as much (60 bucks, on sale)and the bass was a lot tighter. i have them set up in a small room that is very sensitive to bass--tends to over-resonate fairly easily. these aren't a bass-reflex design like the 315's, which may have something to do with it.

for being only a two-way speaker, they do a decent job of covering the mid-range. for someone that listens to rap, these probably won't hit the lows like you'd want them to, but i don't like rap, so who cares. they do handle rock, alternative, jazz, classical very well--bass is nice and punchy, highs nice and clear. for the price, you can't go wrong. 60 bucks!!!

one thing that worries me about them is the label on the back that says they're "video shielded." below this lable it also says, "if you notice poor color coming from your television set, move these speakers away from your t.v." huh? what's the point of having a shielded speaker if you can't keep it near your tv? anways, i've got these speakers on top of my entertainment center, right over the tv, and havn't noticed any color distortion yet. hopefully it'll stay that way.
