Size, quality, looks great,

Weakness:

Expensive floor stands

Saw these in a store while I was looking for a new receiver.I bought both a new receiver (Sony STR-DB830) and the Sony SAV-E705 surround-speakers. Watching movies with this system is great, try Saving Private Ryan, dts version on DVD, or Eagles "When Hell Freezes Over", dts version. But I was a little disappointed using the system listening to ordinary stereo-music. The bass and treble are great but there is a lack of mid-range. So I bought a pair of Technics SB-M500 loudspeakers for use with music.

After trying different setups I am now using both systems to both music an movies, and it sounds incredible together!!!!

At the time I am using the blue speaker covers, it goes well with my blue sofa.

The DESIGN is magnificent!

Weakness:

The sound quality and effect is not colorful enough...

It's beautiful and fits my living room perfectly, however it's not powerful enough so I'm already looking for other speakers.

Strength:

Great overall sound. Excellent with my Sony DVD player. Best looking speaker system around(speaker grills come in two colors)

Weakness:

For some reason my sub-woofer kicks on when my furnace turns on. Expensive speaker stands!

Good for the money. Will work well with any stereo rec. Eveybody that has come over to watch movies has been impressed. The Mummy seemed to jump out of these speakers.

Strength:

Clear natural sound... excellent with Digital Surround sound

Weakness:

Lack of really deep bass... But you get alot more then you pay for. Lack of binding posts on speakers (sub has them)

For the Price these speakers give you a great sound, they very small which is a plus because they seem to fit anywhere... and they are very attractive... I have owned MANY speakers in the past that both cost alot more and where alot bigger that did not compare to the quality of these speakers. Was considering top of the line bose for a long time.. Im glad I axed that in favor of these gems. A must listen... I am using them with the sony 555es reciever and dvd player....they are just awesome... a must listen.. especially if your on a budget.... to sum up these are the best 5 speakers plus a sub you can buy for under 3000 that I have seen. IF you look hard enough you can find them for damn near 600 bucks... a bargin! Would give them a 6 on value if I could

Powerfull bass, small size, attractive design

Weakness:

Extra cost for floor stands

I use a combination of Sony STR-DB930 Receiver, Sony KP53S4 Rear Projection TV, Sony SA-VE705 home cinema speaker system and Sony DVDS305 DVD. All sounds that I am a Sony fan, but this compination is perfect for home cinema. Especially middle and high frequency from this small aluminum speakers are incredible. I tried all of the sony DSP modes, best one is Cinema ExB with half opened treble on both front and rear satelite speakers with bass boost on Receiver and LFE -10.

Strength:

Bulit quailty

Weakness:

Treble will sound terrible when turn the volume too high. Mid range.

I brought the system (SAV-E815ED) online. Generally speaking, the system's preformance is sound; however, when I listen to opera, I found that it cannot handle the sound very well. Especially Marria Callas' recording. It seems the system does not like Callas as I do. The treble completely lose the sound quality at high power out put. I still try to figure out is this the problem due to my receriver (Technics SA-AX7) or the speaker itself or even the recording's problem because this problem only happen in some amount of CD, always. In brief, this system sound not so well as its looking; however, I feel comfertable to share my music time with them so far.
PS. price shows there is after X'mas MSN rebate. Original price is 999.00. However, I saw other website for about 800.00 incoulding shipping.

Clarity, style, invisibility

Weakness:

Lack of mid range

They really are better than the reviews state. However, the centre is actually quite awful. I use a Tannoy Mercury MC Centre and the difference is incredible. The rest of the speakers make more sense now. The centre itself was barely $150 and the investment makes real sense. My room is about 4 metres by 4 metres and they really are loud. One hint though, setting centre to large even when fronts set to small diverts bass away from the sub and disappears! These are great value starter speakers.

Strength:

Size, coolest looking speakers, big sound for size

Weakness:

subwoofer actually didn't quite handle very deep loud tones.

I've seen certain reviews about these speakers, trashing them, but I've wanted them for the longest and now that I have them, I'm satisfied. I was almost disappointed after upgrading my sony SAW305 system until I held down the power button on the receiver and reset to the factory defaults, and this speaker system came alive(I have a sony receiver, but I forgot the model number). There was one instance during Terminator 2 that a loud crash made the sub stop responding for a little while. I'm going to give this system 4 stars, even though I left my Sony SAW305 subwoofer attached, making the system a definite 5.

For anyone who is quick to judge (and I guess this applies to all systems) look at what other people have to say on this site and you'll see that I'm not alone. They beat my previous Infinity and Bose system. Also, if anyone else out there is building a home theater, two subwoofers make a world of difference, adding the depths that one sub simple can't accomplish.

Others complain about the lack of mid range, but its not a problem. My Sony receiver allows me to up the mids, but I didn't even have to.

The bottom line:

If you are an audiophile who pays meticulous attention to every aspect of your sound then I'm not the one to ask, but for anyone else who just wants to hear a great sounding home theater, then get these suckers--especially if you don't have room for large speakers. With my second subwoofer, music sounds wonderful. People, just play around with the speakers before you judge them, especially the sub. Don't stand too far above the subwoofer when listening--trust me, if you get it in the right spot, you'll hear a bass with a tightness that will surprise you (and no, I'm not talking about that type of thumping bass that you hear in cars).

My final comment is the following:
I've been to many of those great sounding movies and I was amazed at the sound effects, but now I have the same thing at home (or even better actually).

When I tried these speakers in the shop I was amazed at the quality of the sound and the depth of the bass from the sub-woofer. Once I had got them home and set them up in my living room (which has a wooden floor) they sounded even better. I have a AC-3 pioneer amp & dvd player which work really well with these speakers. I have never heard sound that is quite as clear and crisp as the Sony SA-VE705 speakers.

Maybe I am not the right person to rate this speaker system because it's my first surround set I have. So I am unable to compare with other systems.

But when I put the Gladiator DVD in my player and go for the DTS track, I am simply blown away. The sound that comes out of these small speakers is incredible.

The perfect set for every DVD fanatic !
