Strength:

Works with Sony custom output plug on home theater

Weakness:

Doesn't last

Finally got a SA-IF70 and was happy for about a month. Then, the system started popping and crackling while listening. Speakers buzz loudly when the microwave is on in the next room. Sony dropped this because it is junk. Where is their product to connect to their custom remote low level output plug? Sony owners are now left holding the bag.

Strength:

Wireless, speaker designed specifically for rear channels

Weakness:

Infrared signal cuts out if you stand in front of it

If you're like me and want to avoid the hassle of running unsightly wires around the room or, worse, pulling up your carpet, the Sony SA-IF70s are a dream. Each speaker is powered and puts out a good full sound. Although the infrared signal can be a drag (the dropping out if the signal is interferred with), the overall pros far outweigh any cons with this unit.

I have looked (and tried) similar wireless speakers. The Advent speakers do you no good due to the fact that they are not geared specifically towards rear channel output. The simply replicate the front channels (through your headphone jack). Rectroton makes a wireless surround sound speaker, but I found the sound to be comparable to a bad radio signal (which it is actually...900 mhz transmission I think...)

For reasons unbeknowst to me, Sony recently discontinued this model. It seems to me that there is a ready and willing market for "no-fuss, wire-free" surround sound speakers. I decided to try and round an extra pair up - ended up spending three weeks scouring the Internet before I was able to secure an extra pair! No one has them anymore! (but I do!!! Email me if you're looking....)

Strength:

Wireless, Neat Concept

Weakness:

Sound clarity is just not there! Occaisonal popping noises occur and become more frequent as transmitter warms up.

The concept is neat, but I would not try to leverage a home theater system off of this product. The speaker sound output is just not stable enough.

Strength:

No cumbersome wires ( max 30 ft. )
Ok sound ( At least out of the left speaker! )

Weakness:

SONY'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS TERRIBLE! The right speaker has
not worked since the day I received the product. Was told
I would have to pay for the shipping and handling to
service the product, when I have not had the product for
even a week. While on the topic of shipping and handling,
I received the product one week after ordering, but was conveniently charged the overnight rate.

SONY'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS TERRIBLE! Save yourself the hassle and spend your money on a different brand name.
Even if you do stick with this brand, stay away from
www.sonystyle.com.

Great sound and you are able to adjust the volume of these speakers independent of the receiver. A must have.
