Strength:

Beautiful construction and built like a tank

Weakness:

Need loads of power

Hi, I have not owned the extrema before but has listened to them extensively since 1997 in 2 different set up. I am familiar with the classic series SF product and hope I can contribute something on the extremas. They do need powerful amps and they sound better on louder volume. However try not to biwire the speakers. Instead use a high quality jumper and one pair of high end cable (instead of 2 pairs of moderate cables). I do not understand why but you should hear a more balance and musical sound. But please do not use the factory jumpers (one gold and one rhodium??). Owners can try and see if this work. In terms of sound, they project a huge soundstage, sounds much bigger than their size (though I will not call them bookshelves) and matched with the proper electronics (Gryphon power amps is one of the better combination), gives a glimpse of audio nirvana. I prefer the Guaneris but this is a personal choice, nothing to distract from a 5 star product.

Strength:

musical, transparent ,detail, holagraphic image.

Weakness:

none

i was looking for a speaker upgrade, it was a choice between jmlab mini utopia and the extrema. when i heard the extrema sing at the second-dealer shop, i was in love with them. highs are smooth, the bass fast and taut. very realistic in presentation, almost like in the front seat of a jazz pub i frequent in singapore, the somerset bar, minus the beer. you get to hear all the details big or small that is recorded on the cd. i am right now re-exploring my cd collections again. i still playing around with the speaker placements. To those out there, like all hifi, listen and judge for yourself. good luck to your journey to hifi narvana...
my systems:
cd player: accuphase dp-75v
interconnect: van den hul the second
amp: mark lenvinson 331

Strength:

dynamics, well balanced from bass to trebble, great midrange

Weakness:

Needs watts in quantity AND quality. If the condition is fulfilled, the result will be world class even compared to todays best.

System :
TEAC VRDS-20 (used as transport)
Theta Cobalt
Audiolab 8000 Q
Mark Levinson N27
Transparent Cable interconnect
Ocos speaker cable (bi-wiring used).

I managed to find one of the few pairs sold in france, and in perfect conditon. Works great with the Mark levinson N27 (this one sound sweeter than the new ones, perhaps to the price of less definition). Tried pass aleph (0s), but not enough current.

System Strengths : perfectly balanced, great impact, midrange clarity. You have the whole package : detail + dynamics + tonal purity : wy asking for more ?

Weekness : my room is curently too small to enjoy the extremas dynamics to their best : you will need resonably large room to do this.
