Sonus Faber Elipsa Floorstanding Speakers

The Elipsa is a three-way design. A 1" ring-radiator tweeter sits 36" from the floor, mounted very close above a 6" pulp-cone midrange driver, the diaphragm of which has a concave dustcap to continue the smooth profile. The midrange driver handles a wide range, 250Hz –2.3kHz, and is acoustically loaded within its own elliptically shaped subenclosure, this vented to the speaker's rear with a 2.25"-diameter port.

This Review is for The Sonus Faber Auditor Elipsa which has no space here in AudioReview yet

I first hear these speakers in an Audio Show in 2008 and came out of the Sonus Faber Demo Room very impressed. They were as gorgeous sounding as the others Sonus Fabers Speakers that I previously audition or owned (Guarniere Homage, Cremona, Cremona Auditor, Minima, Minuetto, Concertino and Concerto) but seemed to be much more snappier and transparent.

Then, three years later, out of the blue a good old friend that just happens to be the local Sonus Faber dealer brings then to me and I just couldn’t resist.

I loved my previous speakers, the legendary Rogers LS3/5A, which I had for some time now. I had never thought I would actually sell then one day. They were natural, true and transparent to source, much like precision instruments, but I just adore the Elipsas. They were even better that I remember and surpassed the Rogers in many ways. I believe I just find the one to keep for good.

Strengths: Superb midrange, speed and articulation, surprising bass extension for its size. Drop-dead gorgeous look’s and finish.

Weaknesses: none what so ever.
