I receantly both pair of Electa Amators for (I think) burgen price. The mainproblem is that I cant afford expensive amplifier to drive it. I have opportunity to buy Unison Simply 4P wich sounds good for me, but I am wondering if somwhere exist something better for EA at that price point. Some people ofer
me their old equipment like Aragon 2004 amp with 24K preamp and Parasound
HCA-2200 with Robert Grobinski Research RC-4. I like valves but someone
told me that EA requires a lot of power (how much I wonder?). I need experts
sugestions about tube or solid state amps in the middle price range suitable for EA.

I wanted to try out the Electa Amator at the dealer _ CK audio.Unfortunately, I could not.
I have had a less than pleasant experiences with this High End Research
and their CK audio 2nd hand tie in. The people are rude and obnoxious.
My last excursion to CK audio lead to several disparate remarks from the salesman namely abt the size of my wallet. His remarks centred on my inquires abt the numerous 2nd hand Sonus Faber Electa Amators in his shop (I was told it had been in production for nearly 10 years.)He said that iF I wanted new ones, he had them in stock but he didnt think I could afford it.

Several excursions down there and consultations with friends have shown that CK audio does NOT
a)have any integrity when it comes to faulty eqipment they have sold
b) employ gangsterism and threats and plain obnoxious rudeness when dealing with new customers (esp on a low/middle budget).
Unfortunately these 2 dealers carry Brilliant brands, that are probably
ignorant abt their working relnshp with customers.

As most Sonus products these speakers give very poor value for the money. Good if you like to have your music very laid back, rolled off on the highs and a bastard type mid-range...too sweet with poor dynamics. A dainty speaker that cannot put you there. At this price point, you can do much better. If you are considering to buy, please look around. Don't make the mistake I did -- I bought before I had heard enough speakers to know that these don't deliver. Was glad to sell mine off -- and it wasn't easy even at a reduced price.
In a word, good if you don't know what you can have elsewhere...and if you do, you wouldn't touch these.

i believe everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. For razak to insult morris as being deaf in very uncalled for in this fine hobby we so love. i think it shows the persons' inferiority complex by not accepting other's view. I have owned this fine speaker for 3 years until last 1.5 years ago, i trade up to the execellent extrema. True, this speaker is slightly colored and lazy and tend to be a bit boomy. Compared to the extrema, it is like tortoise and the hare. It is not the best speaker as per razak's view but the finishing is amazing. I would give it a 3 star.

If the rest of your system is " very laid back, rolled off in the highs and has a bastard type mid-range...too sweet, with poor dynamics" like Morris's of Ontario, then you won't like the Sonus Faber.
If your system is neutral, rich in timbre, dynamic, musical and high in resolution w/o being analytical then the SF may be just the speaker for you.

SF cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I would be interested to hear what system Morris has...and despite what these SF Fanatics say, Morris is right...these are laid back speakers. You pay through the nose for the design. However, they do not deserve a 1...and not a 5. As one who likes to hear the music a bit clearer and more to the forward side I give these a 3 and good riddance.

Relax, Abdul, it's only a hobby and people have diffent tastes and opnions on what sort of sound moves them. I have heard the Sonus Fabers and they are good but NOT a good value when it comes to price, actually the little Concerto is the point I would stop at when considering small monitor speakers, anything above that price point could get you a much more dynamic, full bodied sound from the likes of Vandersteen, Audio Physics and Proacs.

have owned and loved my electa amators for five years. at this price point any speaker wroth the bucks better tell some truth and the electa amators tell a good deal of it. i bought while auditioning very different speakers (wilson watt/puppies and theil 5 - each told a truth. as an opera lover, the truth of timbre in human voice is paramount and the electa amators reproduce unamplified human voice in a real acoustic as well as anything i have ever heard.
absolute bear to set up - difference of 1/4 inch is audible, but worth the work. i drive mine with bel 1001 amp/audible illusions modulus 3 pre-amp - is worth any amount you can spend on front end (sota cosmos, graham arm, transfig temper and theta stuff when i have to).

I was very disappointed by Sonus Faber Electa II. The mid-range sound is far too ear drilling at 1.5 - 2K. Bass is very faint and if you place them very close to a corner you may get audible 40 hz. Overall frequency response is bad for the price range of these speakers.
I upgraded to these from the Grand Pianos because they lacked bass. The Amator II seem to be better than the Grand Pianos but it does not mean it's worth $5,000+.

They look beautiful but I think they should cost around $2000. I later had a chance to listen to the bottom model of Thiel and wondered how Sonus Faber can survive.

The need to resort to unfounded personal insults is quite revealing of how reliable a "reviewer" is. Obviously, if one is too enraptured in their own opinion it is difficult to objectively "hear" the music put forward by components. I have no doubt that Mr. Razak believes the Electa Amator to be a first rate speaker...which also makes it obvious that he prefers a certain laid back sound that Sonus Faber is well known for - If you prefer such a sound, that check out these pricey speakers. However, if you want to really hear music the way it is played, the way it sounds live, and the way it really is..then these speakers are not for you. They present a certain sound, but not music...they color the music with their sonic signature. So beware. In the end, an objective review needs to acknowledge how true to life is the presentation, and what else is available in this price range. Therefore, I need to stress that the Electa Amator is an overpriced speaker that serves to mask the music presentation. Considering this and its price point, it deservers a low rating.
