Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

Not as good as live. Does nat have the bass of HUGE spaekers like Wilson's MAXX.

An absolute steal at $20,000. Detail, dynamics, extension,
coherence, tonal accuracy; Everthing is here in spades. I haven't heard anything else even remotely competive.
The new Nautilus series is an absolute joke. The new Watt Puppy 6, for people who are detail freaks may be a better choice, but not for most folks. The MAXX even though more expensive are not the Amati's equal.

It's pretty obvious That I was blown away when I heard these speakers. I heard them at a high end store in Burlingame. They were driven by Cary amplification with top level Wadia transport and Dac as the source. Everything I played sounded "right". Classical, jazz, vocals, everything came out as music. The only minor gripe is the bass. For 20k, I expected bass that would would rattle concrete walls. However music doen't do that, the Amati gives bass that is simply musical, always accurate and powerful when it needs to be.

I just wish I could afford the price of entry for this level
of sound reproduction.

Strength:

Woodwork, effortless flow of music, does not abuse your ear.

Weakness:

None

When you ask most people what they want from good speakers, the answer you will likely get is: "higest highs and lowest lows with dynamics that will make your nose bleed". Well, I have embraced this love affair with 'high fidelity' for years. Most music listeners do not know what music should sound like. Just ask them how often they go to live concerts. The only concept they have of what music sounds like is the signature of the speakers (and system) they are listening to. On the stage of a concert hall, the violin does not pierce one's ear drums and the bass does not rattle the rafters. The Amati is the only speaker I have heard that can come close to duplicating the tonal balance of a life performance. Music just flows effortlessly and naturally. When I listen to these speakers, I am so invloved with the music that I do not bother to look for pin point focus of instuments and the size of the soundstage. Or whether the highs and lows are at their extremes. (A radical change from my Watt/Puppy and Wadia digital days) I just enjoy the music. Isn't this what listening to music is all about? To me, this is the only reason why anyone should contemplate buying the Amati speakers. Not to impress your friends and neighbors with what it can do on the frequency range or decible output, but for the sole purpose of listening and enjoying music. This, I believe, is the design concept and mission of the Amati loudspeakers. And what a job Franco Serblin has done!

Strength:

uh. . sound!

Weakness:

???

I've been shopping around for speakers with a budget of 25k and narrowed things down to the Watt Pups and Amati's. Amatis won out hands down. More feeling expressed, much better soundstage and you can't complain about the statement they make in your living room even if it doesn't enter into one's decision to buy. Definately the best I've heard in this price range. Underpriced at 22k (dang y2k price increase).

Strength:

Superb tonal balance and musicality. excellent sense of timing, actually make MUSIC

Weakness:

Could be cheaper, there are more dynamic speakers (Horns)

I have been a Hi-Fi enthusiast for many years and listened to a huge range of so called top end equipment at home and on demonstration. VERY few really impress, to me the sign of a good system is one that really communicates, genuinely makes music and draws you into the music. I have to confess to being less bothered about accuracy, if I am itching to put on another track, turn it up and listen for hours this is GOOD. A system that sounds impressive but gets turned off in preference for the Tele after 15 minutes is BAD !

I can and do recognise accuracy and found the Amati's to be very very realistic in this respect they are rich in tonal balance which IS accurate, I have NEVER heard a real violin sound harsh ! They are dynamic and have true pace, tonal colours were very well portrayed. there was an excellent level of real detail, not emphasised leading edges but true openness and the ability to differentiate the very different tones and colours to a range of wooden instruments, they imaged well and were excellent on emotion. Listening to these speakers was a real pleasure, I would happily have a pair at home, these were speakers that just sounded better and better the more we played. They will never have the drama of my Living Voices but hell they actually make music a rare ability (sadly). Sonus Faber pat yourself on the back.

Incidently on the same system (Krell CD and power, Audio Research Pre) a pair of Martin Logan Prodigees sounded VERY poor, they were harsh, unmusical and simply DID NOT integrate properly. The same old problem of sub and panel...
Against this comparison the SF must get a 9.5/10 and as for the ML's 2 max.........or less !

Strength:

Excellent in Sonics and has musical instrument character.

Weakness:

None noted.

I did not own this speaker. I heard it in Austin at High Fidelity dealer
during 2000 Christmas holiday. I've heard many other fine and expensive
speakers over the years. Having respect for many other high-end speakers in both design and workmanship, the Amati Homage, in my opinion, however is the best dynamic speakers I've ever heard.
The AmatiHomage sounds excellent in sonics and has musical instrument
character that brings softly pain in my heart, when I listen to the music
from this speaker.
Technical design and specs should be left for audiophile reviewers and
lab data confirmation, but if one care for it, the clean and fast frequency response graph of the Amati showed it confidently. I still miss its sounds and looks, like missing my belowed little son after my long trip out-of-town weekend.

Strength:

A PURE PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO. DETAIL, SOUNDSTAGE, DYNAMIC EXTENSION, A JOY OVERALL

Weakness:

NONE THAT I AM ABLE TO SEE

AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL SPEAKER. I COULD NOT BE MORE SATISFIED. The craftsmanship and cabinetry is superb. A true product of European craftsmanship. Although I have owned these speakers only a couple of weeks it is hard to tear myself away. My audio system is a Levinson 331 amp and Levinson CD player.

Definitely not worth $20,000. I auditioned this speaker with the appropriate Levinson amplification....

These are beautiful speakers to look at, but I just didn't feel that the sound was cnsistent through the frequency range. It has almost no bass response. Very disappointing.

I'll take a pair of $10,000 B&W's over these overpriced monsters any day.

These image very well for a floorstander, almost as good as a two-way minimonitor. Great detail with minimal harshness (perhaps a function of the room), and deep, tight bass are qualities present in a cabinet that can only be described as a work of art. This alone nearly justifies the price of admission. However, nothing is perfect, and the residual brightness should be taken into account. Heard at Harvey Electronics powered by a Sonus Faber Musica amplifier.

Hello! We recently received these speakers at my store, and I believe we are the only store in New England to have them. Anyway, I am quite critical with speakers, having listened to the likes of wilson, martin logan, revel etc etc. And I was amazed at what I heard from the amati. You can look at the speaker, and not hear the sound coming from them. The imaging is outrageous, the soundstage is huge, and vocals are the most realistic I've heard yet. I listened to Frank Sinatra's "Lady of iponema", Dave Matthew's "all along the watchtower", Robert Cray's "I was warned", and Dire Straits "Love over gold". I also used a little Crystal Method (which rocked by the way!). If you are in the market for a pair of this caliber speakers, write me.Associated equipment-

Strength:

Timbre and tonal accuracy. Musical message delivered with imcomparable beauty, sense of perfect timing and coherence throughout the band. A piece of art

Weakness:

No stomach shocking bass, if you are looking for it.

A loudspeaker of this price tag must be compared to others. You never know how a speaker from a manufacturer you like it or not may surprise you. For instance, I´ve been owner of Martin Logans for various years. I heard a pair of well break-in Prodigy´s. I thought they would amaze me. Pity, they did not.
In contrast, the Amatis.... what an absolute beauty. Beauty in all respects. But not only beauty, a sense of perfection too.
Finally, two things: First, you will be very proud being an Amatis owner and, second, the approval of your wife. If you show the Amatis to your wife it would be impossible to bring into your home any other speaker!!!!!!
