Strength:

tight bass, build, imaging, controlled hf and lf

Weakness:

need to be carefully positioned

When I decided to buy a new set of speakers I put these up against others such as B&W CDM1 SE's and castles equivalently priced speakers. I even put them up against B&W's CDM7 SE's. The Ruarks, to me were the best out of the bunch. The B&W's, although their bass went lower, sounded, to me, detatched and almost voluntary in its delivery. Whereas the Ruarks knew exactly what to put where. Vocals were dilvered with superb clarity and on tracks like Graduation Day by Chris Isaak and many pieces by Michael Jackson, the vocals were screaming out and trying with all their might to touch one. They had an impact which the other speakers couldnt match. The slam they had was immense really hitting out hard tracks when need be. It takes a while to position these speakers and are at thier best when positioned about 60-70 cm away from side walls and about 15-20cm away from rear walls and slightly toed in to improve imaging. With these speakers, every little problem in positoning counts and it would make good sense to purchase a spirit level to make sure the speakers are horizontally sound as this will make a difference when listening to them. These speakers work quite well with most amps in the same price range, but if one has an amp with the equivalent output of that ofa Cyrus IIIi, I would recommend that one adds a power amp as they may damage your amp after prolonged times of loud and heavy listening
