Strength:

richness, depth, critical and deliberately sensed with perceptive flaws. Especially spell bounding playing Jazz or Ed Kuepper honey steels gold.

Weakness:

Requires pedalstool stands with anchor spikes and critically minimum 3/4 metre free wall space all round.

The richter wizards Mk11 are a fnatastic match for any modest amp.10 years on they still excite in an dynamically rich sense that differentiate. They have distinctive brave character that most would sometimes claim as lacking in class. This combo stands out as a contradiction that i find reassuring whenever i sample other hi end specification focus intergration. who's sum total equal sterile insecurity. Yes they can be tireing but what a nice fix it is.

Strength:

Tough, dependable, easy to make sound good in any room. Great for rock and metal.

Weakness:

A bit brash sounding, could be a bit more refined.

These Richter Wizard Mark II speakers have served me well. I''ve had them for years, and they have been willing partners in just about everything I''ve thrown at them, from Tool to Mozart. Initially I was very happy with them, but then began to fiddle, as one does. First, out came the cheap foam lining and in went some sonex - this improved the "tightness" no end. Then out went the crossovers, replaced by a set of 12db butterworths I built from a Jaycar kit, along with new cable. They really showed great potential at this point, and I left them like this for about 3 years and was satisfied with such a great pair of speakers for such a small amount of money. The last thing I did was get a pair of power amps (Nad 2140''s) and build an active crossover to bi-wire the Richters. Wow. These speakers can compete with anything worth up to $5000. They are a little "bright", but they always were - that''s why I bought them. Recently I built a pair of transmission-line speakers to replace them so now they are having a well earned rest but I have no plans to part with them as they are like old friends. Sometimes I even miss them....

Strength:

Back then they were spotless in sound

Weakness:

None back then

The Richter Merlins back then were a much better made speaker because a really nice gentleman by the name of Ralph Walters used to own Richter and built the reputation to a exellent level and in around 1996 or 1997 Mr Ralph Walters sold the up and coming company. The company was built with alot of hard work from his wife and himself and before he had sold the company,I heard that he was about to do business with the japanese, and i was told the japanese were very impressed with their range of speakers.

I have meet Ralph Walters and seen his business before he sold and i can say,he put his heart and sole into the company.Ralph would not let his product speakers reach the store shelf untill he was certain that those speakers were fault less and up to his higher then high standards.the speakers were right on the money and I believe that you got alot of speaker for your money.

I proudly own a pair of the original merlins and they have not let me down. the sound you got was great, it was tight and the highs and mids and lows were equal and i knew that there were no corners cut.

no affence to the new proud owners, though the ratings are for Ralph Walters and his lovely wife for the hard work that they acheived.

p.s To the New owners if you follow the foot steps from Ralph and his wife you will recieve many satisfied customers and if you don't you will receive some unhappy customers with their dislikes of your products. so stop cutting corners.

Strength:

clear midrange/highs, with tight bass

Weakness:

Well there getting old, but still sound as good as the day I got them. Starting to lack in Bass compared to modern speakers.

My speakers are series I richter wizards, that I have had for over 5 years of hard use. They still sound fantastic, they only lack for deep bass after listening to newer systems, due to most new systems demo'd using subs. I've a Yamaha 790 Amp, Richter Hydra rears, A Unicorn Center. There's also a review on this site about the unicorn which bags the crap out of it. I've found it **extremely** good considering the limited power I've been feeding it. Of Course the bass is no where neer as deep as the Wizards, but is very clear and defined. High frequency sounds are great also. I've never had anyone that's listened to this system even lacking a sub-woofer be anything other than impressed. Richter Rules!!! For a great quality, reasonably priced speaker for suround sound, and music I couldn't be happier. Bring on the richter subbie, that's next for my system. I'm not saying there better or worse than any other speaker, they sound great to me though.

Strength:

clear bass, a very 'live' soundstaging, excellent imaging.

Weakness:

Not laid back listening. Can become tiring after an hour or so.

These are good speakers. They are very clear and crisp sounding and can handle volume. Need good stands. Not for the faint hearted though. As I like to listen to dub reggae a lot I find them perfect for this. Rock is also easily catered for. As for classical music - suprisingly enough they are listenable as they produce quality reproduction.
However, I suspect this is because I am running Rotel RA971 with good interconnects. For the money these speakers are more than adequate and have a distinctive live intimate sound to them. They are well built too, with an unusual front cover. Unfortunately, I suspect they are only available in Australia. I have been hapily using them for over 3 years.

Strength:

Great sound for first-time audio enthusiasts; lots of bass; unfussy setup; stylish looks

Weakness:

No class or finesse; poor-quality internal wiring & damping; you'll grow sick of them in time

When I bought these speakers (5 years ago) I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. I heard a LD demo of the opening sequence in Cliffhanger on an all-Richter system (inc. bipolar rears) and it blew me away. I listened to all my old music again, and it brought recordings to life.

Another reason I bought them was to support the Australian hi-fi industry, but my desire to do that now has waned. All Oz speakers sound the same - in-your-face, no class at all. Very Australian you might say!

Over the years I've grown tired of Wizards. They have no finesse, no class, no soundstage, no imaging. They're a damn good all round speaker for your average music listener who wants something more than the $1500 sub/sat/reciever package from your local chain store. But don't think these are true high-end speakers.

I recently upgraded the internal wiring (used monster-type Neotech cable at $6/m) and added some extra damping material, which improved the sound no end, but I am still going to upgrade them.

OK well, i have heard just about everything from Jamo, Richter, Enegy, B&W, Krik and Arron that is under $1600.00 aus. When i heard an Yamaha reciver (not sure which one i think it was the RXV-692) driving the Australian hand crafted Richter Loudspeaker Range i was blowen away, i had a smile from ear to ear, the bulid quilty of the cabints is the same from the small two way Merlins at $599.00 aus to there top end Excalibur at $2299.00 aus i could not find a single bit of difference, the both are made from the same HD MDF, and are both lined with the same long haired Aussie wool, i tested all the speaker systems out and decided to buy a set of Wizard MKII.
The Wizard is a 3 way, 3 driver 125watt, loudspeaker system, and all drivers are from France's Audax driver company, the x-overs are hand made by Richter in Australia and the hook up cable is from Tara Labs. (Also owned by Audio Products International)The retal price on the Wizards is $1199.00 aus and at this price shits all over the DM305 from B&W at the same price ($1199.00 aus).

Once i got this floorstanding system home i could wait to get them out of there box, i was lent a H&K reciver from my dealer until my was in, and i started to drive the Wizards in. The second that i first fired them up evey befor i had run them in i found them to be a very grace full speaker, even in a hard "DEAD" room that i had them in. At this time i had also bought a B&W center channel and a set of B&W rears, once i recived a phone call a few days later to say that my reciver was in, i also disconncted the center and the rears and was wishing to return them. I once again tested the Merlins and the Griffin at the dealers and they were most happey for me to take them and a few other systems home to test out on my new Yamaha reciver, once i got them all connected i tested them out and instally fell in love with the Merlin MKII and the Griffin C.C. The next day i went back and swaped the B&W center and rears for the Richter Merlins and the Griffen.
Since this i have had no problems with the Merlins or the Griffin, but i can't say that Richter still has any of my faith with there highest selling Loudspeaker The Wizard. I have had a lot of problems with this set and Richter has told me that they have had only a very small amount of problems with other Wizards, the thing that has got me so upset with Richter (API AUSTRALIA), is that the first time that the midrange drivers had a problem was when they were found to have a crease running round the inside of the driver, which i got in contact with API in Sydney, ASAP, and they were happy to replace both the drivers free of charge (Under warranty - 5 years unconiditional), the second time was when one of the new drivers "blew" stoped performing and this was only 3-4 weeks after the were installed, then only one month ago the tweeter in the same speaker went as well, i have had the Wizards for about 8 months now and the work that has been done after the first driver replacement has been all done at my expence! SO MUCH FOR A WARRANTY!!!! So now i have a set of speakers that sound "SWEET AS" but seam to new replacment drivers to stay that way.
I have only had them back from my dealers repairs department for about 2 weeks and i have a party coming up in two days time, so i guess that i will be testing them out as to see weather thay are worth there weight or weather, when i move to Sydney in 1 weeks time, if they get dumped at API-Richters door step and a refund is demanded!!

One thing to note: The mid-bass driver in the Merlin two way is the same as the bass and the mid-range drivers in the Wizard, also the Wizard ia a 4ohm speaker and the merlin is a 6 ohm and the wizard is rated at 125watt rms, which is 25 watts more than its little brother. hhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm???????????

I think that the Richter range are worth a test but i think that i would be making sure what their warranty is all about!

AS for a rating:
Richter Griffin Center Channel, Great sounding center channel for $400.00 aus. have not heard any better at the price, good bass nice treble but a little on the dead side if run in "Wide" mode, also a little to light on the wattage level, i give it a 4 out of 5.

Richter Merlin 2 Way bookshelf, Well a bookshelf that goes down to 55kHZ and actually sounds like it goes down that far, for as little as $599.00 and can handle the great bass sounds of Sash (dance) and The Three Tenors, beautiful tone, i guve this a 4.5 out of 5. I take my hat off to you Richter for this one.

Now the Wizard???? Well what can i say it sound great but it simply keeps falling apart. Please someone see it this as it is a great shame that such a nice sound system just can't stay together. "cry cry cry".
Sound and cabinet desing i give this a 4.5 out of 5.
But as for the rest of it i wish not to rate this as i think Richter would get very offended by my words!

The final overall rating is for the Merlin and Griffin, but does not inc. the Wizard!

Very nice listening speaker (the wizards) but short of bass especialy down low.Combined with a Jamo sw600e sub and used as satelite speakers only they are fine.
Very good for the price of $900 AUS a pair.
If you want to spend more check out the Jamo 7.7 thats what I have done.
