Strength:

flexibility, size, overall quality.

Weakness:

none as far as I can tell.

These speakers are great. I shopped around and read reviews for a long time, and settled on the RT2000P. I'm glad I did, because I love the way they sound for music and as part of my home theater. I can crank them up as loud as I can stand it, and I never hear any distortion or loss of sound quality. I use them as my front speakers. I have two large technics floor standing speakers which I now use as rear speakers on my home theater. I have to turn the technics speakers way down, becasuse they can't even begin to keep up with the power and clarity of the Polks. I would reccomend them to anybody, especially after seeing how the price has dropped since the time I bought them.

Strength:

Crisp, clear highs, defined & loooowwww bass.

Weakness:

voices may sound a little thin.

Solid, strong, tight, well defined bass. Excellent price to performance ratio.

This is a great speaker for your home entertainment system. If you like bass while watching movies, buy these speakers. If you like your highs crisp and your midrange clear, buy these speakers.

Just remember, room treatment is very important. More important than the cables you use. Pay attention to the suggested speaker placement and use sound panels if you have too much reverb. Use bass traps if necessary to get rid of the boominess. This is pretty universal for all speakers...

Anyways...Great bang for the buck!

Strength:

The tweeter is sensational and the bass is outstanding

Weakness:

They are very big

As the reviewer below stated, if you are into opera or classical maybe you are better off spending some cash on Vienna Accoustics or Wilson, but for everyone else these speakers are fantastic. There are a lot of people that claim to be disappointed with the current Polk line, but they haven't listened to the 2000s or 3000s. With a matched Polk center (400 or better), they were rated as an "A" by Home Theater and made the Best Home Theater list of recommended speakers. I would have to agree (they are spectactular for home theater). You won't get better home theater performance from anything.

But they are no slouch on music either. Admittedly, I like my music loud and primarily listen to Jazz (saxaholic). The tweeter in this speaker is fantastic and blows away the NHT and Paradigm (does Paradigm even put tweeters in those boom boxes?). Yea, accoustic guitar strings don't jump out of the speaker the way that they do on NHT, but I prefer the dryer, more realistic sound of the Polks and compared to the Polks, the NHT 2.9 is missing more than a few notes at the high end (sorry wannabe audiophiles but do a side by side comparison with some heavy brass). Granted the distinction between all of the different brands is subjective (I personally don't care for Boston Accoustics, Bose, or Klipsch). I like the NHT, PSBs and B&W (I even like the midrange on the Paradigms), but in its class (floorstanding speakers under $2000), the Polk is as good as any of them for music and they are not even in its league for Home Theater. I was close to spending a little more for the NHT 2.9s, but the Polks sound better at the high end. Listen yourself, but ask the punks doing the demos to crank the bass way down, move it away from the wall, and ask the idiot to put the spikes in and raise it off the floor.

Strength:

Crisp highs, great bass for HT effects

I bought these at CC about six months ago. I paid full price (ouch) but still have virtually no complaints. These replaced my dear old B&W 330's so the upgrade was stunning. I love the adjustable subs. You can tweak each one to get the perfect sound for your listening tastes. I have them coupled with a Harman Kardon AVR500, Polk CS400 and Polk RT's for the rears (wanted the F/X but my wife was getting grumpy with me).

I demoed Def Techs, Infinity and Klipsch before settling on the 2000's. None of them could come close to the crispness of the highs. Low volume, cranked, etc. the highs are stunning. I have had friends over, don't mention the purchase and play a CD and watch their reaction. Immediately, they all start to stare at the speakers and just mouth "wow". Floyd's "The Wall" is just amazing. The bass can be a bit boomy, but that's why the sub adjustment is so great. I didn't have much flexibility in placement, so the individual adjustments allowed me to tune it up just right. Plus, the wife was less than thrilled with the idea of a black cube sub sitting in the room, so it made her happy. I'll still manually crank up the subs for certain CD's just to get the neighbor's attention.

For HT, they are perfect. Coupled with the CS400, the soundstage is really cool. My wife isn't into audio too much, but even she had to admit the sound during DVD play is just simply fun and exciting. The lows during blasts, etc. thump you right in the chest.

For the buck, I am very, very happy with these. A little large size-wise but you know us guys...

Strength:

Range is awesome, highs ae crisp and clear, lows are phenomenal.

Weakness:

Big, heavy, require extensive amount of time adjusting subwoofer and experimenting with placement.

These speaker are fantastic. The dual 8" subwoofers produce incredibly detailed bass. Highs are also extremely clear. These speakers love to be played loud. Any of the posts below that give this speaker less than **** should be disregarded and are most likely posted by employees of audio stores that don't like competing with Circuit City's prices. Home Theater loved these speakers and so do I.

Strength:

Built-in Subwoofer, plenty of Bass

Weakness:

Boomy bass, weak imaging, price

I finally had to replace my Polk Monitor 7s after 14 years and wanted something for 70% music 30% HT. My first stop was Circuit City and the Polk rt2000p's. Boy was I disappointed! The highs were flat and non-descript, the mids sloppy and the bass was muddy (but boy, there was ALOT of it!). They had an HK receiver powering it and a well-recorded Pearl Jam CD, but I couldn't find imaging or soundstage or much dynamic range. The music just sat there without depth or definition. It reminded me of a friends Real Big Boomy Cerwin-Vega setup in my college days. Because I couldn't believe my ears, I checked the bass settings on the system, and spent some time thinking about the room acoustics; all settings were at 0dB, and the room was large and very well padded with acoustically dead surfaces. There was no mistaking it: This is one bad boomy speaker. I listened briefly to the rt3000's, and they sounded pretty good (but they were around $3000 for the pair!)

The Circuit City salesman was trying to impress me that the rt2000p's were currently only $699 each marked down from $849 each. There are many many better speakers for the money. My, how Polk has fallen...

Strength:

Smooth, detailed bass

Weakness:

Very sensative to speaker placement

Originally, I brought home a pair of RT1000's for the front, and a pair of RT800's for the rear. After listening for a while, and not being totally happy with the bass quality, I moved to the RT1000's to the rear, and exchanged the RT800's for RT2000's which I placed in the front. After about 3 months of listening to this primarily for Home Theater, I am extremely happy.

Combined with the Denon DVD2500 and Denon AVR3300, the sound is wonderful. Combined with an Infinity CC-3 center channel, even the wife is extremely happy... which is more than I can say for the neighbors (live in an apartment).

I replaced an old stereo, and was a little leary about putting together a system without an equalizer. After hooking up these speakers and receiver, I realized there is no need for an EQ. The bass is solid and smooth (boomy when it is put too close to the corner), the midrange is good, and the highs are crisp and clear. My only complaint is that the midrange for music lacks a little. Luckily, I listen to music in 5-channel stereo, and have the center channel (Infinity) turned up a little, since the midrange of the Infinity is so clean, it compliments the overall system quite nicely.

Not only do they sound excellent, but they look nice. I'm sort of 'old school' when it comes to looks, and the system is small enough to not intrude on the room, yet large enough to demand some respect.

All in all, I love the system. I almost went with the Infinity Overture 3's, but after much thought and listening, am very happy with the results.

I give them 4.5 stars, but since there isn't half stars, I'll round it up to a 5.

Strength:

One of the best home theater speakers on the market and no slouch on jazz either.

Weakness:

A little bigger than I am used to.

I formerly owned Paradigm Studio 80s. I couldn't stand these speakers, because of the extremely poor build quality. The salesman talked me into going with B&Ws, which sound great but have no Bass for my home theater and are only an average speaker for listening to jazz. After readig the review of the RT2000p in Home Theater and having owned Polks for years, I decided to give them a try. Wow am I glad that I did. I hear detail in the bass that you would never hear on the B&Ws or the Paradigms (lots of boom but no detail). These speakers are outstanding for home theater and a true treasure for an audio enthusiast who only listens to jazz. These speakers add to the great legacy of the Polk Audio name and for the money are the best value you will find by far.

This is a speaker which is very typical of Polk Audio. It looks like you're getting a lot for the money, but you really aren't. I listened to them for a while when auditioning a pair of Martin Logans. There was 200 dollars difference between them in price, but it sounded like a thousand dollars difference. On top of that, the Logans didn't really sound all that great. They have a fairly controlled tone, but soundstage is a real problem. They don't have the huge brilliance that you should get in this price range. If you're interested in these speakers, I recommend steering towards the Klipsch Legend series, Boston Acoustics, Phase Linear, NHT, Mirage bipolars, or anything by B&W. Anyone who has listened to speakers for years would be much more satisfied with any of these. With exception to the in-walls, I wouldn't recommend anything made by Polk Audio.

Strength:

Huge

Weakness:

Huge

Over rated, subs are inadequate and only support a real sub (See HSU). Tweeters sound decent but the mids are weak and lack punch. Great for my center channel speaker between two real speakers and a close timbre match. If I find another for under 200 bucks I will use the RT2000P's as rear center channel speakers. Then I will purchase a Polk CS 400 center and swap the fronts and rears around and decide if Timbre balance for home theater is more important than musicality.
I would not suggest these speakers at retail but if you find a steal like I did take a chance. Circuit City gives pretty good deals on open box stuff.
