Weakness:

The trim down the edges on the front of the speakers has peeled a bit over time. These speakers have followed me around the world, though, and have had a life of months on ships and then exposed to pretty harsh desert conditions - perhaps to be expected.

A truly great set of speakers. Add another $1000 to the price to find anything that compares. Very controlled bass - advantage of smaller drivers. Almost no ring from the trilaminate dome tweeters. I see some of the other reviews of these speakers complain of booming bass - look carefully at your speaker positioning - keep them well away from the corners of your listening room.

I've had these connected to various equipment - initially Rotel, but now Musical Fidelity X-A1 and X-Ray. Also occasionally to an Assemblage Valve/Tube amp.

I have had the opportunity in my life to sample some of the finest and most expensive audio equipment on the planet. I have been an audiophile from an early age. I have sampled equipment from McIntosh, Threshold, B&K, Cello, Mark Levinson, Krell, Westlake Audio, B&W, Thiel, Martin-Logan, and so on. I currently own components from Polk, B&W, Harman/Kardon, and McIntosh. In my time of sampling this equipment I must say that I have been a Polk Audio fan since the days of the SRS 3.1 TL. The replacement for that speaker was the LS-90 which I currenlty own. On one system I have 2 LS-90's hooked up to all Harman/Kardon Signature Series Amps and Preamp. I have the amps in Mono and bi-wired with Monster Cable M series to each speaker. I am using Harman/Kardon's FL8450 CD-Player with all Monster Cable interconnects.
These speakers are amazing for the money. They have 2 6 1/2" mid-bass/mid-ranges, 2 6 1/2" bass drivers, and 1" tri-laminate tweeter.

The midrange is exceptional and clear. The highs are outstanding. The bass is tight and accurate. Male vocals are very accurate as are female vocals. Strings are tight and very clear. Stick basses are excellent and reproduced in am uncompromised manner. The only tricky part to these speakers is proper placement for imaging. Once I found the right spot the soundstage was excellent and very 3 dimensional. I can play anything from Jazz to Hard Rock on these speakers and they are accurate and dynamic with anything I can throw at them. The bass is exceptional for drivers this size.

I have heard "better" speakers (i.e. more expensive) that have the same sonic capabilities, but nowhere near this price range. I plan to hook them up to even more power (McIntosh MC300) and from what I have heard before with this combination it should be amazing.

I have had the pleasure of owning my Polk LS90's for almost 5 years now. They are longer in production, but I'm glad that I bought mine when I did. At the time of purchase, I got the floor demo models, along with 2 rear surround speakers S4's, and a center channel CS150. Price was $1800 for all 5 pieces.
These speakers are beaultiful to look at. I very tall floorstander, and the sides taper in toward the top for the entire length of the speaker. They are a TMMWW configuration (4 6-1/2" drivers, and a 1" dome trilaminate tweer).

Sound is supurb! These speaker put out a ton of bass, given the size of the drivers. The highs are very airy and easy to listen to. Bass is extremely tight, but very full at the same time.

When I first bought them, I was using a Pioneer VSX-D601S receiver to drive them, and they sounded good. About a year ago, I upgraded to a Yamaha DSP-A3090, and I was blown away! I can listen to this system for hours on end.

I haven't had a chance to audition Polk's latest line. Too bad the LS90's aren't made anymore. I would love to get two more of them to run on rear of my HT.

The 5 year warranty is nice reassurance too!

Over the years I have owned a number of speakers, and amplifiers. There are many excillent speakers on the market, each with their own unique sound. One speaker company that I have used more than others, has been Polk Audio. One brand model that stands out is my LS-50. They are the right size for a floor satnding model with a polk dynamic tweeter (Good highs). Two 6 1/2 Mid drivers. The speaker carrys a very clean base responce for it's size, and also a good center stage output. I run them of of a Mc Intosh 1979 model 2230 Intergrated Amp.
Although these speakers are more than five years old, they are very good for the price. This has made Polk Audio grow, low price, and a good product.

Strength:

Solid jazz and R&B speaker.

Weakness:

Lacks refinement it is presentation, a bit on the bright side.

I picked up a set of these speakers for 400 dollars the other day. The sound is very typical of Polk's, forward and in your face. I listened to Brother's in Arms the other day and it was jamming. The woofers handled the bass with some smoothness, but maintained an overall "Boxy" sound, which was most evident in the mid bass. The vocals tended to linger in the background of the soundstage, while the brightness of the tweeter caused the overall transition of sound at the crossover points to be a bit unbalanced, with the lower register and higher register dominating the transition. Ok, the LS90's did not impress me with musical stylings of Dire Straights, but for the price, maybe I could try some other tunes. I listened to some jazz and the LS90's preformed quite a bit better. I think they are more suited for in your face types of music. So with that, I say a moderate speaker for a fair price.

Strength:

Good highs, detailed sound.

Weakness:

Relatively low power handling

Except for the genius with double postings, it seems everyone agrees. The LS90's sound exceptionally good for their price range. I find these speakers to be very pleasing to listen to and the imaging is very nice. Also, found them to be accurate and natural sounding when reproducing music. I do sometimes wish for a little more for a little more power handling in these Polk's. I found they cut out a little early - but at a level very few would really listen to volume-wise. That would be my only real complaint on an otherwise superb set of speakers.

Strength:

Clear highs, detailed

Weakness:

Poor constructions, muddy bass

I just upgraded to ATI-1502. The bass has improved dramatically - much tighter and controlled compared to the Yamaha 795 amp. The highs are much more detailed and transparent. Sound stage is semi-wide. The bass is still muddy, but acceptable. I have heard better sound come out of B&W and Energy speakers, but for $400-500 is is a good deal. This is speak is much smoother than most that I have heard.
