Strength:

Darn good looking.

Weakness:

Muddy base. Little detail for mids and highs.

I have these on loan from a friend to "try before you buy". I A-B'd them next to my JBL L1 bookshelf speakers. (I am a *huge* JBL fan BTW). These speakers were muddy compared to the JBLs. The was too much base emphasis and not enough detail. Don't get me wrong, I don't like fatigueing highs (insert *any* Infinity speaker here). But these pt806 speakers just look a lot better than they sound. I'm glad my JBLs kicked their ass. : )

Strength:

Non-fatiguiging mids and highs,

Weakness:

Bass may be too powerful in smaller rooms (my listening room is 15'x13').

Noticed the glowing reviews of these speakers, and have to comment on the bass. It is far too powerful. The system is clearly bass heavy when powered by an Odyssey Stratos. The bass is fairly well defined, but there is simply too much of it. However, the mids and highs are articulate, without being edgy. It is possible that these in contrast to my Dyn A50s are simply more "capable" of reproducing lows that I am missing on my Dyns though. They are placed 48" from the side walls and 42" from the wall behind them. Great bargain nonetheless, rating is on selling price of $500.00.

Strength:

Very good highs and good bass.

Weakness:

See below

I bought these speakers to replace my aging magnapan IIs since I recently moved and I had no where to put them. I'd purchaced several items from soundcityoutlet.com and had been very happy so far and they had these for a very good price. I looked at several reviews of other speakers by Platinum and decided to order. Be warned, the box these come in is huge and heavy for speakers this size.

I hooked up the speakers, gave them a brief listen and left while they burned in. Before they burned in, I was impressed, but they really did improve after the burnin.
Compared to the magnapans (which were old), they definately
have a much fuller sound (as expected). Bass is good and
solid. The highs are actually a bit clearer. It took a bit
getting used to a bass reflex speaker again after the maggies, but it is nice being able to feel bass again. I can't comment too much about imaging, since I'm a bit limited on setup in the room they're in, but the imaging seems good, not the exceptional, engaging, you are there quality of the magnapans when properly setup, but as I said,
I'm now limited on placement.

Upstream components: Onkyo Integra A-SV810PRO 80Wx2 integrated amp, JVC XL-V282 CDplayer. I'm not sure how
forgiving these are of upstream compontents, but with the magnpans, there were amazing differences when I replaced my cheap sony reciever and cdplayer. I can not stress the importance of that enough.

Overall, I'm very happy with these speakers, and would highly recommend them for anyone who wants some good reasonably sized speakers for under $600. I'm basing my rating on value - excellent.

Strength:

excellent cabinet design excellent speaker set up

Weakness:

these speakers are show stoppers. when they arrive in the box and you feel the overall weight you are immediately impressed. these are bi-wire capable and I really like this approach. excellent quality, excellent design, looks very
expensive although price is moderate. sound is great and they can handle all the power you can push on them. if you can find a pair of these buy them.

Strength:

Excellent imaging, Dynamic range, and one well built speaker.

Weakness:

NONE.

Incredible speakers, can't believe I paid 150.00 for each one. The imaging is fantastic and the sound clarity and seperation is really great. I have them hooked up to the Harman Kardon AVR 500 and using Multichannels sources these speakers cry for more. It handled the subtle sounds that I was use to not hearing upto the biggest explosions The Matrix, and other similiar films had to offer. These are solid and heavy speakers which gave me that made to be pounded on. The setup with the tweeter in center is an excellent idea and they really compliment each other as well as other components in your system. When you and your company hear the sound production of each movie or music application the OOHS AND AAHS will over take them. I'd rate these speakers up with the big boys. GET IF YOU CAN.

bass imaging soundstage highs mids

Weakness:

had to find one

these are of course no longer available. I bought one of the last ten pairs. I was so impressed that I talked both of my brothers into buying a pair. Later I traded one of my bros some other stuff for his pair, so now I have 2 pair and am thinking on how I can get the other brothers pair too! If you ever see these used, don't hesitate to snatch them up. Basically I echo what's been said these have impressive bass, the soundstageing is first rate, they are detailed but smooth and the highs are non-fatiguing and clear. I'll never part with them.

Strength:

Clean, deep bass, good clarity, big soundstage, efficient

Weakness:

Plain looks belies incredible sound qualities

Just want to confirm the fine qualities that other reviewers have previously stated. These speakers really put out a clean, rich, and very detailed sound. The clearance price that Audio Advisor sold these for ($249/pair) made the purchase seem more like stealing the speakers then leaving a tip.

I listen primarily to classical and contemporary instrumental music and the 806's are equally at home with either. I believe that they would also make great front speakers in a high end home theater system.

No one will ever consider the 806 plain black cabinets and grills to be fine furniture but, given the super sound qualities, I really don't care.

Strength:

Very focused, well balanced, good soundstage, excellent bottomend extension

Weakness:

cables make a very important difference in performance

I purchased these without actually hearing them (my employer has the Studio 1's, and I figured this companies "house sound" was good. I let these break in for about 3 days continuous, and felt that the sound had signifantly improved. There was a notch effect that seemed to be noticable on all recordings, so I began experimenting with various cables in the signal chain. My own personal experience has been that these speakers are best suited in a bi-wired configuration, and tha Kimber 4TC is the magic solution to get the top end of these to perform their best. Currently , MIT Terinator 2 is being used for the bass side, with very good results. These will also benefit from a slightly bright cable form the source component, such as IXOS silver, or a similar. Monster cable products tend to be the lest comaptible with these, inducing a notch filter effect. Room placement took a few days experimenting to get it completely dialed in, but when positioned correctly, the soundstage extends well beyond the speakes themselves. At the price these can be purchased, these are an exceptional value. No listening fatigue, no excess sibilance, no bad experience.

Weakness:

Just ok for a center

I never heard of platinum audio before. There web site was down so, I check out audio review and found 2 good reviews and they sounded great in the store, so I took them home and I loved them. I can play different types of music and I don't have to adjust the eq . The 200 watts peak is a good benifit too. I got three but my old yamaha center is better
ns-ac141 for movies and tv but for 2 channel stereo the platinum pt806 are great They still sound better in the store because he play them with a denon avr4800. I will be getting a denon avr3300 soon. I have a sony str935 Ok for movies but not good for 2 channel stereo.
