I bought these speakers because they were only $60 a pair. I thought since they were so cheap they weren't gonna be that great. But boy was i surprised. They have a descent amount of bass, but who could be picky for only payin' $50 for them. I thought it was kind of odd to have a 2-way speaker that has a 10"
woofer, I never saw that before. They are light, which I like, and don't take
up a lot of space. The color wasn't that great, but it does match my cd holder,
so who can complain. The bottom line is, for $60, you can't even buy a boombox for that so, it was an exceptionally good deal. Good Job Pioneer

I bought a pair of these about 4 years ago to replace a set of Pyramid bookshelves. The shocking part of the bookshelf is that at it's 6000hz crossover to tweeter is very smooth. The speaker is also sealed (woofer is a "free-air") so the bass is quite fast and tight at low volumes, but has a hollow "ringing" (not boomy) at louder volumes. This is a pretty good bargain if you can catch it on sale at WARDS (Montgomery Wards when I bought it) for about $59/pair (plus an additional 5% if applying for a credit card). The main problems I didn't like about it were: pinch clips for speaker wires, non-removable grill (can be forced off using strong flat pieces of metal), thin cabinet material, paper tweeter, and low power handling (though I have pushed a lot more than the 50 watts max). I think this definately sounds much better than the Bose 201, 301, and 501 and should be tried against these for comparison testing. This speaker is also really easy to match with a sub as the 10" woofer goes pretty low and easy to drive (definately for people who prefer quite listening levels or don't mind directional rears). I wouldn't recommend this for someone who has no intentions of buying a sub unless they really never listen to rap, hard rock, or techno. Anyone who wants to hang these on walls with brackets, the cross-over unit is connected to the speaker cup wire terminal so don't mount a bracket near it. Another thing, these speakers are very light so my advice is to hang them if you have small childen (as light weight as these things are they might not hurt your kid anyway if it falls on them). The main thing I hated about these is that they only came in that fake oak wood tone (though 105 is black and uses a diffent woofer with removable grill) which should be made illegal for sheer ugliness (a cheap speaker should not be made to look cheaper than what was actually paid) and I would even prefer that carpet they use on car subwoofer boxes. I would have rated these a 4 for their price when on sale, but that nasty fake oak vinyl veneer will make me rate this a 2 speaker.

I'm not sure why the guy below says that his grill covers do not come off.My Pioneer CSG-104's grill covers come off.
This speaker is very good for the inexpensive price.
I am very satisfied and would recommend these to anyone with a small budget.

Great for around $99!!!

These speakers exceed my expectations for the $100 bucks a pair I bought them for. They provide good bass and the high frequencies are nice and open sounding.
These speakers are well worth the $100 I spent on them. Use them as front or surround speakers and you will not be sorry.

Like everyone else has pointed out, these speakers pack a booming punch for the price, $60 most places! The 10" woofer used in this set provides more than enough bass for most listeners. The sound response is also amazingly good for a cabinet with only a woofer and a tweeter, no mid range. But it my opinion this isn't necessarily a bad thing, an added mid range speaker would have made these speakers larger in physical size which would have been a mistake IMO.

I had a unused 10" Kenwood self powered floor sub from another home theater system in my house and I hooked it up to see the difference in bass quality between the two. The test I used was the building entrance shootout scene in "The Matrix". This seems to be a good test for all ranges, high to low. With the sub hooked up, the bass seemed better than the CSG-104a alone. I then un hooked the sub and proceeded to up the bass about 20% on my receiver, when retested the result was VERY similar to the response I got with the sub hooked up. Also, my speakers grills can be taken off very easily which is always a plus in my book. :)

My only gripe with these speakers is the un-unique oak cabinet exterior used. A black matte or semi gloss would have been much more appealing IMO.

I'll just put this review for the csg-105 here, since it was already mentioned in another review and is practically the same speaker. I got mine for $100 even, and for that price, I must say that they were a great deal. I was a little skeptical about buying a two-way speaker with a 10-inch woofer, afraid it would lack midrange, something critical to guitar rock lovers. Surprisingly, it really does not, although I would like a little more in that area. Bass is decent with even 30 wpc, and highs are pretty good. For pop music, these would be great starter speakers for anyone. For heavy guitar riffs, you can't beat these. But for something such as Van Halen or Boston(my favorites) look for a little more midrange.
