Strength:

Power handling capability Clarity Presense Attractive (I went with Rosewood)

Weakness:

For some, possibly their size. These ain't bookshelf speakers, they're made to be seen!

This review is for the 'Version 3' series. After upgrading my system piece by piece over the past year, it was time to replace my 10-year-old mains (Monitor 3's). I debated between the Studio 40's and the new Monitor 9v3's, which were about the same sale price at the time. I decided that I was tired of looking at speaker stands, so I went with the big boys. Very happy with my decision. At just over a month of usage, these speakers sound awesome. The new Version 3's have adopted similar cross-over technology as the Reference series, so instead of two identical 8" drivers (as in the V2's), there is now one main 8" driver, and a second 8" low frequency driver. Let me tell you, they throw the sound both for music, and home theatre. My new 9's cap off the rest of my system; Mini Monitors (rears), CC 370 centre, PS1000 sub, powered by a Yamaha RXV-1000 Receiver. You won't go wrong with Paradigm. This system is competative to systems twice the price!

Strength:

A very accurate speaker. Well worth the money.

Weakness:

Some of the finishes look kind of cheap. Black ash looked the best

These are the Monitor 9 version 3 models. Out of the box, they are fantastic. The bass is deep and tight. The midrange is excellent and the highs are very crisp. Vocals sound like the singer is in the room with you. Wind chimes and bells sound very realistic. Horns sound great. I can't say enough about these speakers and I have not really broken them in yet. I don't think you can find a better speaker in this price range. I am driving these speakers with an NAD C740 receiver and a NAD 540 CD player and its a great combination. I get nice bass even at low volumes but the more you turn the volume up the better it gets.

Strength:

All-round great sound. Handles the full range. System is timbre matched perfectly

Weakness:

Absolutely none.

Bought Paradigm's Monitor 9's after listening to a variety of speakers with a large collection of music (classical to jazz to rock). I loved the Paradigm speakers as soon as I heard them. The only other speakers that came close for this price range were the PSB's, but ultimately I found them a bit tinny sounding. The entire Paradigm line-up was fantastic and I created a setup with Monitor 9 fronts, Mini-monitor rears, CC-370 center and added a PS-1000 sub later on. This system is amazing for both home theatre and music. Driving this all with a Harman Kardon AVR510 receiver and recently changed to a Toshiba SD4800 DVD player which has DVD Audio capability. It is with DVD Audio that these speakers really shine. I am extremely happy with the Paradigm speakers - well-balanced sound, excellent range and crystal clear reproduction.

Strength:

Soundstage, deep bass, clear highs, great box, heavy, dinamics. For the price, I cant think in other speakers beeter than this ones.

Weakness:

Could be more sweet and warm.

I really didnt compare this speakers against other ones, because at the store they were on break in. After one year my impressions are: -Very good box, heavy. -The bass is great, well controlled and deep. -The highs are little bright but this is only noticeable with some pop records. -The mediums are great, but not as warm and involved than other higher class speakers. -For the price I paid, there is no speaker even close. My system; Amp: NAD S300 CD: NAD C541i Cables: Audioquest diammondback and jamo for speakers.

Strength:

Wonderfull sound, outstanding bass. This is a great speaker for smaller Jazz ensembles, string quartets, rock groups but...

Weakness:

...The soundstage isn't the best for classical and larger ensembles.

Well, I picked these puppies up a little under three monts ago. At that time I was listening to a lot of Jazz, and fusion bands. However lately I've been listening to more and more classical music (partialy to fault of the 9's because when I purchased them, I went throug just about every cd in my collection...and I do have a lot of them. The Jazz sounded great, Dave Mathews Band was incredable. Kronos Quartet playing Dracual was beautifull, but as I listened to more and more classical, the orchestra was sounding fairly "cramped" in the sound stage. It wasn't that big of a deal at first. I jsut skipped over my classical CD's and focused on my Miles Davis and Chick Corea. But as I listened to the larger ensembles, I kept feeling like there was something missing. So I went back to my shop and did a two hour head to head of the 11's versus the 9's. The 9's were great for the smaller ensembles, and I still liked the richer sound of the 9's, but the 11's jsut opened up. Much to my dismay I decided to trade in the 9's and go home with the 11's. For $700 bucks they are a great deal, but I felt justified in tacking on another $170 to get the 11's to cover just about all of my needs. Dont take this as a negative review. The 9's are a great speaker, especially if you love small combo jazz, solo piano, rock, and anything with a smaller soundstage. My tastes just changed, and the 9's no longer suted what I wanted.

Strength:

Upper/Lower bass Clear, "not bright" highs Looks and Height

Weakness:

None, so far and I don't expect to find any...

I just traded my Monitor 7 v2 for a pair of Monitor 9 v2. I gave this trade a lot of thought because I wasn't so convinced there would be much "audible" differences between the two other than power. As it turned out, there is an audible difference. The Monitor 9 is a "2 1/2 way" speaker, while the Monitor 7 is a "2-way". The Monitor 9 sounds fuller in both mids and upper/lower bass. Many Paradigm Monitor users state the "brightness" of these speakers. I believe this has more to do with the receiver that is powering them. My Monitor 9's sounded excellent right out of the box in my system. I am using a Yamaha RX-V2200 receiver. If Yamaha RX-V series receivers were "bright" in the past, I am here to say they're not bright anymore. I was very pleased with the performance of the Monitor 7's, but for those contemplating moving up within the Monitor series, the Monitor 9's are worth the "jump". I liked their sound even over the Monitor 11.

LOOK'S Bass you don't really even need a sub with them. But it doesn't hurt to have one anyway's

Weakness:

There really isn't any mayby adjusting the for spikes

Well these Thing's are the Best. I really think any one would be very happy with Them I know I'am. And I'm am a very hard person to please. I upgraded them from the MONITOR 7'S that I had for a year & 1/2.They were nice but not really for me. I play my music very loud & they really couldn't hang. I wanted to brake this in really good before leaving a review. so I could be honest about them. Buy them you will be very happy with them. Dont settle for less. They really are unbeliveable. the sound that come's out of them. DONT SETTLE for the 7' spend the other 200 dollor's for the 9's.

Strength:

Very life like vocals, not too boomy for my tastes (I have a 12" sub if I want things Boomy, mainly for HT) Excellent frequency separations Great dynamic range (I can actually hear imperfections in my CD player vs the dvd optical link now) v.good construction / quality MADE IN CANADA eh?

Weakness:

Need sub for HT

After reading many rewiews on this and similar message boards I decided upon Paradigm's, I was not disappointed. Although I had originally intended to get the Monitor 7's, it worked out I ended up with the Nines instead (however I did have the 7's for a few weeks in my house so I could compare them Back to back.

Strength:

Great sound for the money!!!

Weakness:

Can be a little boomy if not properly adjusted....other than that, NONE!!!!

I have found these speakers to be the best overall value in my setup. I searched high and low to find a better speaker in this price range, and there were none!!! These tend to be a little boomy when they are ran large but this can easily be adjusted. The speakers create a soundstage like I have never heard in its class. They are very neutral and are free from coloration. The dispersion from these speakers fills the room with stunnning sound. And with a 91db sensitivity rating you don't have to drop a lot of money into powering them.
