i have the Technics sb-lx70, so i assume they are the same thing. these speakers are a terrefic deal for the price (150). they have decent bass (12" woofer) and play pretty loud with my sony db830 reciever. if you want unreal bass then you are better off spending the extra $ and buying cerwin vegas or at least something with a 15" woofer, but if you just want good bass and loud capabilities with decent highs and mids then these are pretty good...
good value, pretty good speaker. 3.5 stars because they hold up pretty good but not as good as more expensive speakers... id like to give them a 4, ah what the hell.

Strength:

Clean tight bass. Great sound overall. Dirt cheap.

Weakness:

You can't brag about how expensive your speakers are.

I've taken a few months to really test these babies out before giving my review. I spent a lot of time prior to purchasing them checking out reviews and product info, but all I needed was to hear the first 30 seconds of Billie Jean in the store and I was hooked. I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS! They have a clean tight bass that makes a sub-woofer a luxury rather than a necessity. They have a simple but beautiful design - black wood grain finish. The Detachable grills are accoustically invisible (the speakers look ultra sweet with the grills off, but thankfully you don't need to take them off to improve sound quality). They seem pretty light given their size (which certainly takes a strain off my back when I have to lift them).
I've found only two weaknesses with these speakers : 1. The 2 inch tweeter is slightly cheap looking. 2. They max out at 22Khz whereas Technics top end DVD Audio ready speakers max out at 70Khz. N.B. the aforementioned top end speakers use a 1 inch dome tweeter which I think would really add to the looks of SB-LX70 and hopefully the sound. I say hopefully because the high end really sings and I don't know if I could distinguish an increased range.
I have my speakers on 20 inch oak side tables at the foot of my bed. the speakers are about 8 inches from the wall and I'm amazed at the bass coming out of them. Despite the 2 weaknesses mentioned above I believe that these speakers are the best value for money. these speakers performed impressively with a wide variety of music that I threw at it, but I was especially impressed with how it rendered : Here and Now - Luther Vandross, Billie Jean - Micheal Jackson, Still DRE - DR. Dre, What U B!+(#@$ want - DMX, Turn your lights down low - Bob Marley & Lauren Hill and Bawitdaba - Kid Rock.
N.B. I experienced the same listening fatigue expressed by the other reviewer in this section(sorry I can't remeber his name) but I soon got accustomed to the speakers and have not suffered from it since. Since then everyday playing them has been a treat, so I've got to give them 5 stars.

price, value

Weakness:

a few

this is my 2nd review and the only two so i guess these arent very popular on a mid-fi site, and im beginning to realize why a little more. while i still like them, they do have their limits and seem to distort a bit. not that i can hear distortion, but they make my ears hurt, (might be due to listening a bit near them sometimes?) but still they seem to cause listening fatigue i believe it is referred to, easier than others and the highs are not the greatest coming from the cone tweeter. of the speakers i have listened to, i preferred the sony 515s, mtx and cv's over these, but the wharfdales just sounded bad.
still not bad speakers, but if i had it to do over again i would buy something a bit better.
