I picked up a pair of LX-10's for front's to go along with my CS-5 centerand LS-1's (surrounds). I'm also using an Optimus 100w, 10" sub. Picked up
the whole speaker package at Radio Shack for $580 before tax. The LX-10's
are a great speaker for home theater. I'm powering them with a JVC
RX-884-VBK receiver. I'm eliminated most of the tonal imbalance by setting
the center channel to sharp on the receiver and this takes some of the bass
out of the CS-5. For music, the speakers sound good for country, blues (my
favorite), and accoustical. They don't sound as good for rock/metal as other
speakers I've heard. But hey, for the price they are an excellent value and
for HT, paired with the CS-5, they sound as good or better than speakers
costing many times what I paid for them.

Strength:

Great Value, nice tweeter

Weakness:

None that I have noticed

I use the Pro LX-10s as the front channels and as the rear
channels in my hometheater system. I use the Pro CS-5s as
my center channel speaker. I have an Accoustic Research S12HO as my active sub-woofer. I must say that I am satisfied with my LX-10s. I orginally owned only two but when they went on sell for $99 I had to get two to replace my LX-5s which were serving as my rear channel speakers. The sound that I get from this set up is fantastic. The highs and the low effects all come through without a problem. I would recommend the LX-10s to anyone looking for
a great speaker at a great price if you can still find them.

Strength:

Lineaum tweeter! Awesome! Make sure speakers are at least about a foot from the wall to get the best sound.

Weakness:

A little muddy in the midrange, but acceptable for me.

You just can't beat them for the price, if you can find them. On clearence for $99, or maybe lower now.

Similar Products Used:

LX Pro5 for surrounds, and a CS-5 for a center. Also use a RS 200 watt powered sub (which sounds better as it breaks in).

I wish I could justify buying these speakers right now. I really have no use for these but at $99--they are a huge deal. 4 of these in a DD set up would be incredible. Something tells me that these are about to be history though. They're being closed out and R/S isn't saying that they're being replaced with another Linaeum design. So get it while its hot.
The tweeters alone are the best you'll ever hear on a speaker 10 times the price. While the bass is not as tight as my Polks (SDA-CRS+) nor as deep, the imaging and treble is much more defined. Like I said, I can't justify another set of speakers, I'd be jealous of anyone smart enough to grab 4 of these bad boys.

I hate to "take back" a review but, upon further review, I think that the Optimus STS-800's are a better speaker (save for the tweeter) than these. I got a chance to spend a couple of hours with these and the STS-800's at a Radio Shack, courtesy of the sales person named Kell. He allowed us a lot of liberties that even some high-end stores wouldn't allow. My bro-in-law and I went to R/S to listen to the LX-10's and were chagrined to find them wired out of phase. After a little pleading, the sales rep let us wire them correctly. We still weren't satisfied with the 'boxiness' of the bass so we convinced him to let us move them off the shel and onto the floor were there were no shelves overhead. That improved things a great deal, but we weren't impressed with the bass (loudness off, bass & treble @ -0-). My bro-in-law wanted to hear the STS-800s ($69) for a copmarison. Clearer mids, tighter bass, though, more directional treble and not as good a soundstage.
I think the reason the mids and bass sounded better is because the STS-800 is designed better. The LX-10's seemed too boomy in the mid-bass region, probably because they had a 7" woofer handling the midrange, whereas the mids in the STS-800s are sealed-back drivers (4"). The bass was a little undefined in the LX-10s, considering that it had two 7" woofers compared to one 8" woofer for the STS-800s, which had really good definition. Maybe some tweaking with the crossovers or a better box is in order for the LX-10.
The tweeters, though, was the one factor the LX-10 had over the STS-800. I asked the sale dude if the store had the Linaeum tweeter modules ($29) in stock and he said, "yeah"; so we then hooked-up a tweeter mod (more pleading) to one of the STS-800s and "Eureka!" (I would however suggest that the STS tweets be disconnected for best results.)
I hearby downgrade my previous review of the LX-10 to just three bookshelf speakers. For the same money, buy the STS-800's ($69) and the Linaeum tweeter mods ($29). Heck, buy four!

I got a pair of LX 10's at the clearence price $99 a piece. I will tell you they are SWEET!!. I have a pair of Infinity SM 165's hooked up to my "B" channels and the LX 10's to my "A" channel. I have a Pioneer VSX 455 receiver and a Pioneer CD player. I have listened to and owned a lot of speakers (Boston Acoustics, Infinity, Bose etc.) and I can say from my own experience that for the money these are a steal. The highs sparkle just as well as my Infinitys. Maybe lacking a little midrange and the Bass is kind of muddy. But as far as I'm concerned, the lacking of mid and bass is a minor and I mean minor flaw. If you want a very clear and accurate sounding set of speakers that arent going to break you buy the LX 10 you will be impressed I know I was.

I know.....Radio Shack. The name you laughed at for years; you've probably teased someone in your life time for owning something from Radio Shack, and deservedly so. However, Linaeum is a quality company. These series of Linaeum Tweeter'd speaker are definately the best R/S has ever offered. And you can always find them on sale around October. A friend of mine bought the LX-8's on close-out for $79.00 apiece and they sound great! No, these aren't Polk's or Energy's or Boston Acoustic's; but they'll give you better presence than a pair of Cerwin Vegas or Klipshe. You've got to hear them on some better equipment besides what you'll hear them on at Radio Shack (if they're hooked up at all).

A excellent product for the money. Bought floor model for $360. Placing the speaker a couple of feet from the wall creates wonderful presence from music, classical to jazz to rock, anywhere in the room. With hardwood floor bass is strong but not as tight as I would like. Possibly needs speaker stands to help situation.
Recommend using the pro-cs3 center channel speaker as minimum center for Lx10's if on budget for $80. Had the Pro-cs5 but in HT setup didn't carry high details very well versus pro-cs3. Plus size on cs5 unit is huge.

Overall, very satisfied and highly recommended for the money.

Front: Pro-LX10

Rear: KLH Bookshelf

Strength:

Price, Lineaum Tweeter

Weakness:

Boomy

I have had my Pro LX10's for about 2 years now. For the money, these speaker sound great. They are a bit boomy but that is o.k. for me because I have a seperate sub that covers that up a bit. I have yet to open them up and throw some polyfill in. I am pushing them with a Marantz SR-18 that over powers them a bit but thats alright, they handle it quite well. With the purchase of my SR-18 I am looking for new speakers. Not that there is anything wrong with my shack ones but I figure if I am going to go, go all out. Unless you are VERY serious about your timbre and imaging and have alot of cash, these will be quite sufficient for most enthusiaists.

The first time I heard these speakers at a local RADIO SHACK I thought that they would definitely be in my future, but at the time I didn't have a very good paying job and had to buy the PRO-LX8s thinking that I would eventually downgrade them to surrounds when I buy the towers. After about 6 months and most of my bills paid later, I went and tested them again properly (read the review concerning BOSE AM10/15) and I was completely amazed. Compared to the LX-8s the LX-10s midbass was muddled enough to effect vocals, though the bass was somewhat stronger it wasn't lower. It still had spaciousness most likely a trait of the LINEAUM/LINESOURCE tweeter, but it did not fulfil the main purpose of buying a tower: ELIMINATE THE SUBWOOFER. To be honest I was quite disappointed and happily ended up bringing home another pair of the LX-8s and breaking them in as the mains with the previous ones demoted to surround duties. I think if RADIO SHACK has intensions to redesign this speaker it must do two things:
1)Seal one of the woofers and make it do midbass duties.
2)Tighten and lower the bass to a respectible 30hz or power the bottom woofer so a sub is not necessary.

I personally believe that true towers do not need subs but I do not see anything wrong for a tower being SLIGHTLY improved with a sub. While to me this tower has a good and unique appearance at it's price level and most of all it's not as boomy as most low end quality towers. I think its' obvious that the tweeter is the main thing that will keep me from rating this a 3 since it's price and simply adding more dampening material would easily raise this to a 4 and all budget buyers should modify their products if they can't buy better (higher) end. I can't give this product a 5 because the bookshelf really does sound better even though it will end up costing you more because you will have to get very heavy stands or heavy duty wall brackets that pushes the speakers about 18in from the wall (to maximize to effects of dipolar tweeters).
