Strength:

It has the sound quality of a $ 7000 US loudspeaker for much less money. Beautiful looking and good build quality. They make you want the very expensive Symphonic Line loudspeakers.

Weakness:

We have to use the Audio Selection cones to clean up the bass in our room.

This is our third Odyssey review. My wife and I are music enthusiasts and we like all sorts of music. She plays the violin and loves orchestral music and I listen to Classic and Rock and Jazz. We like to spend our limited free time at concerts and in front of our systems. We have the fortune to have two listening rooms. In the last year we upgraded a stereo Stratos to a pair of extreme monos. The quality of all the Odyssey products we tried is so good that we talked to Klaus about his system deal for $ 4500 US. Tempest, Stratos with the capacitence upgrade, Loreli and Gronenberg cables for $ 4500. US. Klaus told us about the review in 6moons.com and put us into contact with a customer who has the system and we visited him. The same night we ordered the system from Klaus. Now we change the amps around with the Loreli. Stereo Stratos and extremes and the Mark Levinson 33. We love the Loreli with all of our amps. The loudspeaker is elegant and looks European. It is because it is a $ 7000 US Symphonic Line loudspeaker. When we received the Loreli we were not sure what to expect in a comparison with our other loudspeakers. We listened to Brians Odyssey system and loved it but that was 2 months ago. It is a $ 7000 Symphonic Line and we read the reviews and we have the other Symphonic Line designed Stratos. We thought that the Loreli have to be good for a Symphonic Line but with the system deal we paid much less. We listened and were blown away as Odyssey states. It is better now in our listening room than when we heard the Loreli first. The Stratos amps are an unbelievable bargain and the Loreli is a bigger one. We can not believe the bass and grip that the Loreli has. Big orchestral music is laid out in front of you and has foundation and impact. On Rock and Jazz the loudspeaker makes me tap my feet and puts a smile on my face. Klaus told us that the Loreli has emotions. With sentimental music the Loreli will make you cry. The Loreli has bass foundation and is dynamic and has very good detail. For us the best strength of the Loreli is the threedimensionality. The music explodes beyond the loudspeakers to the back and the sides. In our room the Loreli makes the walls disappear. We love this loudspeaker and we have most of Odysseys products. The Loreli is the best Odyssey product.

Strength:

SOUNDSTAGE WAS ASTOUNDING COMPARED TO OTHER SPEAKERS I'VE AUDITIONED. THE BASS IS HEART THUMPING. THESE SPEAKERS MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN THE FRONT ROW OF A LIVE RECORDING. THE CABINETS ON THESE SPEAKERS ARE TOP NOTCH QUALITY...BUILT LIKE A PIECE OF FURNITURE AND HEAVY AS A TANK. AT THIS PRICE POINT AND BELIEVE ME I'VE AUDTIONED MANY SPEAKERS AT THIS PRICE POINT AND BEYOND THESE SPEAKERS HAVE NO RIVALS. YOU HAVE TO APPROACH THE $5000 AND UP CATAGORY TO COMPARE A SPEAKER WITH THE LORELEI'S.

Weakness:

BREAK IN PERIOD. ALTHOUGH ALL HIGH END SPEAKERS REQUIRE TIME TO COME INTO THEIR OWN.

I WRITE THIS REVIEW IN ORDER TO INFORM ALL OF YOU OUT THERE THAT ARE IN NEED OF PURE MUSIC LISTENING ENJOYMENT...AND NOT BREAK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT IN THE PROCESS LOOK NO FURTHER THAN ODYSSEY AUDIO. I BEGAN MY SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT HOME AUDIO EXPERIENCE 2 YEARS AGO. AFTER AN EXHAUSTIVE SEARCH I DECIDED TO GIVE ODYSSEY AUDIO A CALL DUE TO MANY PERFECT REVIEWS ON THIS SITE. WELL, AFTER SPEAKING WITH KLAUS I WAS SOLD THAT HE HAD WHAT I NEEDED AND I DECIDED TO GIVE HIS SYSTEM A TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT ALL THE FUSS WAS ABOUT. I NORMALLY DON'T BUY ANYTHING SITE UNSEEN BUT KLAUS IS QUITE A SALESMAN. AFTER PLACING AN ORDER FOR HIS STRATOS AND TEMPEST SETUP I ASKED HIM WHAT SPEAKERS HE WOULD RECOMEND TO GO WITH THEM. I GAVE HIM MY SHORTLIST AND AFTER A FEW MOMENTS ON THE PHONE HE ADVISED THAT HE WAS ALSO PRODUCING A NEW SPEAKER LINE BASED ON THE GERMAN SYMPHONIC LINE. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I ALSO ORDERED A PAIR OF LORELEI'S IN BLACK ASH. AFTER A FEW WEEKS KLAUS CALLED ME AND ADVISED THAT THE LORELEI'S WERE TAKING A BIT LONGER TO COMPLETE THAN HE HAD EXPECTED SO, HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD A PAIR OF NIGHTENGALES THAT HE COULD LOAN ME UNTIL MY SPEAKERS WERE READY. I DECIDED TO TAKE HIM UP ON HIS GENEROUS OFFER AND A WEEK LATER KLAUS ARRIVED AT MY DOORSTEP SYSTEM IN HAND. AFTER WE UNPACKED THE SYSTEM AND IT WAS UP AND RUNNING I KNEW I HAD MADE A SOLID CHOICE. I LIKE THE NIGHTENGALES VERY MUCH BUT I LOOKED FORWARD TO THE LORELEI'S ARRIVING. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS KLAUS CALLED BACK AND ADVISED MY SPEAKERS WERE READY AND HE AGAIN DROVE TO MY HOUSE FROM INDIANAPOLIS TO PERSONALLY SET THEM UP. OUT OF THE BOX THESE BLACK BEAUTIES WERE IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE. THE NIGHTENGALES WERE LIFLIKE AND VERY MUSICAL BUT THEY DID NOT FILL THE ENTIRE ROOM WITH MUSIC LIKE THE LORELEI'S. THE LORELEI'S ARE A REMARKABLE SPEAKER. THE BASS IS VERY TIGHT WITH EXCELLENT SOUNDSTAGE AND THE MIDS ARE TRUE. THESE SPEAKERS ARE A TRUE FULLRANGE SPEAKER. BE ADVISED THAT THEY DO TAKE A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO REALLY SHOW THEIR STUFF BUT, THE WAIT IS WELL WORTH IT. IF YOUR IN THE MARKET FOR AN EXCELLENT SPEAKER IN THIS PRICE RANGE LOOK NO FURTHER THAN ODYSSEY AUDIO. WHAT'S TO LOOSE IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM KLAUS WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE YOU HAPPY INCLUDING A FULL REFUND. BUT, I PROMISE YOU A REFUND WILL BE THE LAST THING YOU'LL WANT IF YOU AUDITION THESE SPEAKERS. I SIMPLY LOVE THEM! GOOD LUCK IN COMPLETING YOUR SEARCH FOR AUDIO HEAVEN....I CAN HAPPILY REPORT MY SEARCH IS OVER AND I'M ONE HAPPY CAMPER. THANKS KLAUS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!

Strength:

Value-HUGE!! Audio Quality Build Warranty Customer Service (best from any company I've ever dealt with)

Weakness:

Long breakin period (approx.500 hrs)

note: the $2500 above is the loudspeaker price. I have finally had the equipment long enough to have an educated opinion. This review is of the overall system as I received everything at the same time with one exception. Equipment purchased: Odyssey Stratos Monoblock Amplifiers/Odyssey Tempest Preamplifier/Odyssey Lorelei Loudspeakers/Groneberg Quattro Reference interconnects and speaker cable/California AudioLabs CL20 dvd/cd player(purchased elsewhere)/the exception is Groneberg Powercords upgrade (4 of them) Now that you know what equipment I am referring to you may be asking if I'm out of my mind putting so many eggs in the Odyssey basket? Well folks, I can tell you the same thought initially crossed my mind when ordering the system.(even though I had done a ton of research over the last 1 1/2 yrs) After breaking the full system in I can tell you I would do it again in a heartbeat. Amazing!! Out of the box the speakers seemed quite bright and the bass muddled but surprisingly good considering everything was brand spankin new. After about an hour of listening there was an appreciable difference in both top and bottom end. The system was softening quite nicely thank-you very much. A week later,(constant listening ) I am surfing the web with my back to the speakers and I know it sounds weird but "BANG!!!" something phenomenal had occured. It was as if everything just kicked into overdrive, everything just came totally together.I had to turn around to check if it was my system I was hearing. It is almost 2 months later and this thing just keeps getting better and better!!! Had to call Klaus to ask him where all this bass was coming from out of a 2-way. I can hear a persons fingers touch the strings on a stand-up bass before playing the note, the vocalists breaths between phrases. Drums/Percussion/Bass Guitar, very tight and crisp (you know what I'm talking about, that thud you can feel in your chest) Keyboards and Guitars OHHHHH YEAH BABY!!! This system continues to blow me away. It far exceded my expectations and I give these components my highest recommendation. Sure there are better systems out there, but at what cost?? For me, in my price range, these amps and speakers blow away anything I listened to (some of it 2 and 3 times the Odyssey cost) with ease.(I auditioned far too many to list here)Value is very important to me and maybe to y

Strength:

Looks: Stunning Sound: Revealing, tonally accurate while being warm, not sterile. Great bottom end extension with beautiful mids and highs. These babies sing in a way that I have not heard others. The soundstaging and imaging is frightfully good. One never experiences listening fatigue. They draw you in - and captivate you. They are remarkably accurate at all listening levels. Build quality: very impressive - with each speaker weighing in at about 80lbs each. Price: Unless one can just throw money away, you will do yourself a tremendous disservice if you don't listen to these before committing to purhcase a new pair of speakers.

Weakness:

None

What can I say? Klaus continues to astound me with the tremendous values he is delivering into the market. I purchased my Legatos almost a year ago (so obviously they have had sufficient break-in time). These speakers are incredibly revealing and tonally accurate. They produce full, yet controlled tight bottom end and produce incredibly warm midbass. With respect to the bottom end, I'm driving the Legatos with Symphonic Line RG-4s, and the extension greatly exceeds any prior expectations one could have. (My brother was recently downstairs listening with me and wanted to know what type of subwoofer I was running because of the phenominal bass extension. I proceeded to tell him that the subwoofer was hooked into my surround sound system (which is where my Meadowlark Shearwaters now reside - see below)- and not part of my audio listening system. My tastes run the gamut from classical (probably own 100 different CDs or LPs) to rock to jazz to new age to blues. When I want to listen critically, I will play something loaded with strings or piano - and I always get the sense that the performers are in my listening room. Klaus promised me that I would be overwhelmed by the quality of sound and construction - all I can say is that he undersold me. Just so the reading audience knows, approximately 8 months prior to purchasing my Legatos, I purchased a pair of Meadowlark Shearwater Hot Rods for $3,000 (very highly acclaimed - See the September Stereophile review). The Meadowlarks also employ Scanspeak drivers. Hands down, the Legatos run circles around them. Don't get me wrong, the Meadowlark's are a fine $3,000 speaker - but the Legatos are a $7,000 speaker with a $2,500 price tag. I only wish I had heard the Legatos first - I could have saved $3grand. My Legatos came in the pearl white finish. Talk about a classy mesmerizing look. They are (as the prior reviewer put it) stunning. The problem with equipment reviews is that they are so subjective - and no one ever wants to admit that they made a poor purchase. Well, I can tell you that I've made some great purchases (the Legatos, my RG-4s, my Rega Planar 25) and some not so great purchases. I've spent more than my fair share on equipment (and can probably spend more, except it may result in a divorce). When it comes to speakers, I'll match these against anything that is in the two to three times there

Strength:

Neutrality, 3-dimensional soundstage. Great transparency and imaging. Tight fast bass.

After almost a year of auditioning a plethora of speakers, I have finally settled on the ideal speakers for me - the Legatos. Let me begin by expressing my musical tastes - I mainly listen to classical music and jazz and I have close to 2500 CD's in my library. The two most important things to me in a pair of speakers are transparency and neutrality. I am also a sucker for soundstage - I want to feel the layering of the instruments of the orchestra, good image specificity. The Legatos with their Scanspeak 8545 drivers and Revelator tweeters can be brutally honest, but they are true and that is what I like. Listening to string quartets and piano trios, and other form of chamber music is simply a joy. I have the Legatos in the pearl white finish, which are absolutely stunning. I don’t think any words can do justice to how beautiful they look. Very elegant indeed. I found these speakers tonally quite accurate with perhaps just a tinge of midbass warmth, with the Rega, but not the Cary. Overall, there is a rightness about the tonality. These speakers are fast with great attack and quick transient reflexes. The cadences on Stravinsky’s Firebird finale were reproduced with aplomb – the bass drums in the finale only proves the bass slam and extension. I was surprised how well these reproduced the bottom end. On William Ackerman’s “Sound of Wind Driven Rain”, the passages with the bass lines were articulated very well – tight and defined. I won’t say the Legato has earth-shattering bass, but it was certainly very articulate and fast. The soundstage is superb - both wide and deep, and also 3-dimensional. These speakers simply disappear. One of my test discs is Patricia Barber’s Café Blue and the track “Too Rich For My Blood”, which has a good bass solo. I’ve heard this piece, god knows how many times, and on the Legatos I heard details that other speakers did not pick up, except maybe the Martin Logan Odyssey’s. Yet, there is a very realistic sense of air and space around the instruments. Barber’s voice was distinct and clear and thrust forward over her piano, the bass and the percussion. The piano sounded very natural and full-bodied. William Ackerman had mentioned to me that in his recording studio he had glass all around, but there was a sweet spot in the room, which is where he generally positioned himself for the recordings. Playing that disc, I could
