Strength:

warranty

Weakness:

they breakdown often

bottom line is i got suckered in with slick salesmen. i even went to the extent to compare them to a smaller pair of missions and i guess my ears were fooled 'cuz i still bought the nuance's...i even went out and bought the Chesky's Jazz cd to compare that indian dance song on different speakers and found that it was recreated on other speakers as well...i shoulda just stuck with the smaller missions but for 350 cdn. i can't really complain that much 'cept that i have had to bring them in about 3 times so far to no avail. ... they keep breakin' down!! if i ever see them again in a store i'll rip a new a-hole into the first salesrep that approaches me with the famous "spatial speel" for sure!!!

Bought a pair of these last week. Not bad for the price ($550 CAD). They're a little better than the Energy eXL-15's, as they fill up the room much better. I don't know why people say the Nuances are muddled. They have very defined bass, with a very good midrange and good high-end. You won't like them however if you like 'warm' speakers. Certainly, they are cheaper and about the same quality as a comparable pair of Energy eXL-16 or Paradigm Mini Monitor. I do think however that the higher ends are WAY too overpriced. Another thing, I had to haggle for about two hours to get the price I did. I would definitely recommend them for a small room (which is what I have).

I bought the nuance star1s about 3 years ago. I do not agree with "dave from calgary" that they completely suck. After living with them for 3 years in various different settings i can say they are overall decent speakers. They are solidly constructed. The sound is bright but highs and midrange are good and when matched to an energy eXL-S12 sub they sound great. Musically they leave something to be desired but for HT they are more than adequate. I do agree though that they are not as amazing as the dealer says they are and I would not pay more than 300 for them.

I have read the review slamming these speakers. I purchased a set of Nuance's top of the line speakers about 4 years ago. I had a single proceed amp from my last set of speakers and felt that I got reasonable performance musically and great performance in both Dolby and Dolby digital, lots of bass when matched with my Velodyne sub (an older one with 10" speaker). What really opened up the Nuances was alot of power. I have since Mono-blocked two Proceed amps and the results are spectacular. Obviously the speakers are not very efficient. Also, I now find it very easy to overdrive the speakers. I have been happy with my purchase especially since they were so heavily discounted. But, I must say that there are a set of B&W's in my future.

Strength:

Good warranty, good sound

Weakness:

None that I can here.

I see people royally BASHING this product around. All I can say is that I am totally satisfied with their performance and warranty. Who else offers a 10 year warranty on speakers apart from higher end models...I mean I consider Nuance as a medium-high end not THE CREAM OF THE CROP but for the price I wouldn't make a hassle. I'm sure these speakers are not good enough for the rare crazy lunatic who listens to his music so that the entire neighborhood hears it. I have 4 Star 1SM (front & rear), 1 Star Sub & 1 Starcen, my house shakes when I view movies; that's good enough for me. People who try to listen to hard core bass on these speakers will certainly be disatisfied if they don't have a sub due to the fact that Nuance speakers are made for the sole purpose, or mostly for Surround sound (DTS and Dolby Digital) You can listen any type of music..just not at over exagerated volumes..remember these speakers only have 1 soft sphere shell tweeter and 1 8" inch woofer a piece. Hook these babies up with a Yamaha RXV-795a or higher and I garantee you won't have to put the volume to the 50% mark. If you have gone pass the 50% mark you are either deft (or soon will be) or a crazed maniac. And so what with the drivers and all the the interior components...if they sound good to you it all that counts!

Strength:

The bass pounds, really clear mid and high's, overall superior quality

Weakness:

price

I bought acutally an entire system and it was the greatest investment I have ever made. The warranty is awesome, they offered a one year no loss upgrade, which I will definately be taking advantage of, and the quality of the product was amazing. After comparing the sound of a huge variety of products and prices, I found nuance to be the best bang for your buck. I cannot believe the reviews people have been writing! I would be interested to find out if the authors are on the payroll of the competition.
There is no reason that I wouldn't recommend nuance to anyone. A little words of wisdom though: take the time to bargain down the price because after arguing for a couple of hours with the salesmen, you will get a killer deal.

Strength:

Increadable Sound, excellent imaging, awesome build quality

Weakness:

The reviews on here

I can't see how you people can actually write things about Nuance that you say. The only way that I can see you writing all of this is if you are in competition with them.

I have a set of Star Grand 1SM's running on my computer off of a Kenwoon VR105 Reciever they sound increadable. By the way, I bought these because of my big system. You can read about that in the Spatial 3 area.

These are the upper series, being built out of 1" MDF and having a better crossover in them. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who wants an amazing sounding speaker.

As for the person who wrote about how a heavy speaker can't be good, are you a complete fool?? I'm going to leave it at that. It is not worth my time to type more to that comment.

As for Ryan's comment about a pushy sales rep... what do you expect?? It is a sales person's job to sell! That's what they do, try to find a good sales man who isn't pushy.

Honestly these are an INCREADABLE sounding bookshelf speaker, try and find one that has this high of quality, I think they even sound better than my big ones (Spatial Baby Grand 3ELX) but keep in mind they are a book shelf speaker you people complaining about bass, you show a real lack of intellegence, a book shelf speaker will not have true bass, yes some will be bassier than others, but for one that has a lot to do with what amp they are hooked up to, and two if a bookshelf speaker is bassy, odds are it will not be a clean bass.

As for you people complaining about Q-Sound. Yes they do use 3 tracks that are in Q-Sound, the first two (the dogs barking and the sled) and the Madonna song. The Indians dancing is not in Q-Sound, it is recorded with a single stereo microphone, it is off of "Chesky Jazz and other Audiophile Tests vol. 2". The first two songs are from "Roger Waters - Amused to Death) Go get a copy of these disks (yes you can buy them at any music store -- Chesky is hard but you'll find it) and listen to them on other speakers, yes it may work, but I can attest to the fact that it will not work as good as it does on the Nuance Speakers)

I feel sorry for anyone who does not buy Nuance based upon what they read here. Go to a store that sells Nuance and listen for yourselves. You can go to any World Sound & Vision and here them, or you can go to HiFi Centre in Whitby and hear them. I buy mine at HiFi Centre because I have been going there for years and I find that they are a little bit less expensive then at World.

Belive me, you will not be disappointed -- well so long as your ears work anyways.
