Strength:

clean midrange, treble, and decent bass for size

Weakness:

none for its size and price

Great little speaker for relatively small room use. Set up properly and they'll provide many hours of sonic nirvana. NHT really should offer a deluxe model of this winner(not just veneer upgrade).

Strength:

Very accurate with great midrange.

Weakness:

none for this price

In my opinion these are probably the best bargain out there for audio enthusiasts, I have these paired with the SW2Pi and couldn't be happier with the performance. Definately get some good stands with spikes, you won't be disappointed.

After months of trying to decided what speakers to get- I got a pair on NHT SuperOnes & they are outstanding! They are replacing a 35 year old pair of AR's (which I thought were decent speakers) & there is no comparison. The SuperOne's sound like a veil has been lifted from the music! I have a small listening room & even the bass sounds great! Anyone looking for a great pair of inexpensive speakers cannot go wrong with these. I'm currently using inexpensive XLO cables & next will try some Audioquest Type 4's to see if swapping cables makes any differnce. I listen to mostly jazz & classical music & use a 35w/c amp & a Marantz CC-38 cd changer. Great pair of small speakers!!!!

-Bass is good 'nuf-Excellent midrange. Clear (Individual instruments are easy to follow). Wide soundstage (The echoes are pronounced and naturally recreated). Detailed
and accurate (Human voice is very natural).
-Highs are sweet but I prefer a little more bump in the 14-20KHz range.
But then my JVC minisystem-acting-as-the-cd-player could be the one to
blame for this. Any suggestion for a sweet sounding CD changer at or under
$500?

Four stars for now.

Strength:

Very Good Imaging, Fast, Reasonable Soundstage, Superbly reproduces female vocals

Weakness:

Tough to drive, picky about placement, needs good stands - will set you back about the same as the speakers

Originally had the SuperOnes in my main system along with an NHT SWP2Si powered sub-woofer. Driven by a Rotel 50W receiver. Software from Systemdek IIX turntable and Rotel RCD950 compact disk player. To get great sound from this setup it was important to take some of the load off the Rotel (nice but modestly powered) as the SuperOnes, like many speakers this size, are difficult to drive (86 dB sensitivity?). With the sub-woofer doing all the heavy lifting, my system produced terrific "budget audiophile" sound. Terrific imaging (perhaps the speaker's best attribute) along with great mid-range. Needs a reasonably high-quality amplifier otherwise the speaker sounds congested and seems to be less dynamic. Fed a JVC XRCD, the best sounding CDs in the world hands down (may I recommend anything by Mighty Sam McClain) into the CD player, the result is astonishing given the modest price of the system ($2,200 including the ancient but acceptable turntable).

When I set up my home theatre, I decided to go with NHT all-round. Cannibalized my music system and put the SuperOnes and sub in the HT system along with SuperOne XU rears and a supercenter center channel. Driven by an Onkyo 676 (darn, it's hard remembering all these model numbers) receiver and fed software from the lowly Panasonic A110 DVD player, I have to say the result was very satisfying. All of the positive attributes mentioned above were also true in the HT system. The Onkyo is a nice receiver but I have a hunch higher quality amplification would take the whole system up a notch.

Not to go on but I had to replace the speakers in the music system. Auditioned the B&W 302s alongside Acoustic Energy Aegis 1s driven by a rotel integrated amp. Don't know what all the fuss is about when it comes to these B&W speakers. The Aegis Ones stood out head and shoulders above the 302s and they were just a bit more money. Ended up buying a Paradigm PS 1000 sub-woofer that is very well suited to HT so it went into the HT system and the NHT came back into the music system. Ditched the Rotel CD player (turned out to be very problematic - sounded great when it worked right but that was very infrequently) and purchased a Rega Planet. Happy with the music system and the HT system and didn't spend a ton of dough on either.

In summary, the SuperOne is a terrific little speaker. Prefer the Acoustic Energy Aegis 1 for music but like the SuperOne as the main speaker in an HT system. Happy listening.

This last summer we completely refurbrished our living room, moving our high quality audio system to the family room. Problem became that we have developed an ear for good audio (music of all types), and trying to crank up the system in the family room while we sat in the formal living room just doesn't make it.So we agreed to add a good quality system to our new living room, but the rules were that it had to sound great (not just good), it had to be at least inconspicuous (if not invisible) to the casual viewer and it had to cost less than $1,500. I read much and listened to more systems than I can remember. Bor its size, the NHT Super One was the best small speaker. It does lack the lower octave (very noticable after being used to my JBL LE15A's), but its mid to high range is smooth and it has an open sense of warmth and presence I have never heard in another speaker of its size. Bought them from All Brands in NY for $300, and didn't pay shipping or sales tax. Great deal! Great Speakers!!

Strength:

Build quality, tight low distortion bass, fluid highs, love the piano black finish

Weakness:

need good electronics to get the best out of these

I was in the process of upgrading my bedroom system. I recently moved and currently don't have room for my Velodyne sub-woofer. I have the sub paired with the superzeros which makes a nice combination. Without the sub though, the zeros just can't cut it for an all around speaker.
I listened to alot of bookshelf speakers but none of them could come close to the superones. Most were bass reflex designs and I was not impressed with the boomy bass most exhibited. This might be cured with room placement but I don't have that option in my bedroom.
I have the ones hooked up to Yamaha's new RX-596 stereo receiver and the Yamaha CDC-675 cd changer. This makes for a good basic system for music in a smaller room.
I have heard these with cheaper receivers, Techniques, JVC, Sony, Pioneer ect. The ones tend to sound a little thin and restrained with these low quality units.
Do yourself a favor, if you opt to get quality speakers, bite the bullet and buy good equipment to go with it. For music Yamaha, Denon and Nakamichi make great two channel receivers with ample reserve power to drive good speakers like the superones.
I am very impressed with the sound quality of the ones and paln to audition the supertwos for my main system. I am now a devout NHT fan!

Strength:

The richness and fullness of the sound from this tiny speaker is just unbelievable. They have to be heard to understood

Weakness:

The fact my ears aren't used to their sound reproduction. THey repro the sound sooo well

These speakers were originally purchased to be surrounds for my HT system. They came in a month earlier then the Paradigm Monitor 3's , so I used them for fronts for that month. Well the sound was unexpected. I was so pleased that I now switch between the two pairs as fronts.

Strength:

Clear mid-range, tight bass, great imaging, compact size.

Weakness:

Could probably benefit from a subwoofer.

When I first auditioned the SuperOne, the imaging really caught my attention. I compared them with the Klipsh ksb 2.1 and Paradigm Mini Monitors. The Mini Monitor was too "boomy" for my taste. The ksb 2.1 had a sound closer to the SuperOne. After listening to a few CD tracks, I thought the SuperOne had a "smoother" overall sound. I listen mostly to classic rock. I bought the "XU" version for $375/pair and I am very pleased with my purchase. When playing music, I can close my eyes and focus my listening on individual instruments. They also sound GREAT when playing cable TV and movies through the VCR. My rest of my audio system consists of:
NAD 7240PE receiver
NAD 513 CD changer
Musical Fidelity X10-D CD upgrade
Monster Cable M550i interconnects
OMC-type speaker cable
Lovan Affinity 2-2400 speaker stands

Just replaced the front of a Boston Acoustic Sub-Sat system with a pair of NHT Super-ones XU. Using a Adcom GFT450 pre with a Accurus A-100 amp. A Yamaha cdc845 is my signal source using Kimber Kable as connects and Monster Cable. Not the top of equipment by any stretch of the imagination . Upon firing up the Superones I noticed a diference immediately in the bass. I had read reviews about the bass of the Ones being a weak point,,,no way!!!. THE MUSIC IS SWEETER. Almost like playing a LP with the pops and hiss. I am going to order another pair within the next six weeks to replace the fronts on my home theater system. I am from the old school in that I believe music should be played via a two channel stereo system leaving home theater systems for movies. Just my opinion. The reason that I am waiting six weeks is to be able to sneak the boxes by the wife. I would suggest the purchase of this speaker to anyone serious about getting the most bang for their buck
