Hi,

I have been using these speakers now for about 7 years and the thing I notice is that they work awfully in certain circumstances and beautifully in others. It has all do do with how they are positioned and what type of floor they stand on in my mind.

I have had them on laminates, real wood floors and they kinda disappointed me.

Now, however, I have a concrete floor and they perform superbly. Everything is as tight as a nun's ass, everywhere, on all frequencies. It was such a difference that I just can't stop listening to all my music again.

My conclusion is that these speakers are just brilliant, but you need to anchor them to the floor properly and they like a firm suface, like concrete. When you get it right they are absolutely fabulous for all types of music. I like punchy, bassy rock myself and these guys just blow my mind with the bass response on the concrete floor. I have an older model than is now available. Oh, and they do take a few hours to settle in. After 7 years these guys are my best buddys. I am using a NAD 214 power amp and a 114 preamp, which have also been solid. Guess that's old school now LOL

Strength:

Looks are great!!! Sound is awesome!!! Great build quality & gold connectors.

Weakness:

None.

I just got these speakers in a few days ago & hooked them up. At first, they sounded somewhat normal & I wasn't drastically impressed, but after running for about 3 days straight, I'm noticing a drastic difference. My girlfriend even noticed when we had the U2 concert on last night. All she said was "Wow, this sounds unbelievable". Now this is coming from a girl who says "All this stereo stuff is the same. Why do you spend so much money on it?" That says something in itself. Out of the box they sounded slightly hollow, but now the sound is very balanced. Mids sound very clean & highs are excellent. These speakers are phenominal w/ Acoustics & classical music also. I've tested them quite a bit in the HT setup & its a dramatic difference from the Polk Satellites I had before. There's no comparison. To sum this up, I'm now looking for Mordaunt Short center channel & Dipole rears to complete the 5.1 setup. I'm very pleased.

Strength:

these speakers are quite tweaky. lots of stuff to enhance the sound. like the feets, spikes,a ballast chamber, and you can also remove the tweeter grills.

Weakness:

The aluminium woofers need atleast 300h. run in time.

sound great, i recomend you to by them. they even play good with my sh*ty system. i had some problems with fitting the feets to the speakers. the screws were to big. so i walked around my house looking for thinner screws. i found 16 of the same size. but they were to long. but i used a cutter to get them to rhe right size. now the feets are mounted to the speakers solid-as-a-rock. Then i attached the spikes. and they made quite impressive marks in the floor. then i filled the ballast chamber with cat sand, and got more solid bass. Hav`nt run them in get, so they sound better every day i play them.

Strength:

The sound for the price is the first reason.

Weakness:

Nothing

I think they are the best buy under 900 euro/pair. Quality sound in particular on medium frequency with the best detail in this range. It's not easy at this price. The quality sound is like Monitor Audio s6 that cost 50% more. You can hear Mission 74 to check an alternative but they(MS) are the best, absolutely. Tweeter not aggressive and with full details.Low frequency well done without boom.

Strength:

All round good performers, good build, nice feet and spikes, aluminium build looks and is quality, wood finish on cherry is nice.

Weakness:

Feet are slightly hard to screw on but thats about it really.

Initially I got the 904's and thought they were okay with the Nad320bee amp, but I felt some extra bass was missing. So then I swapped the 904's for Mission 773e's and a Nad C350 amp, although the amp was more powerfull the missions where very disappointing in the bass department even though they had two main drivers and a tweeter and the 904's had one, the 904's had better bass. So finally I got fed up and decided to cough up more dough and buy the 906's these speakers a very good, good in the bass department and good all round. The bass isn't super deep but if you like very low bass then I suggest you get the 908's which have a 10' inch woofer built in the side of them for a etc £50. These speakers are more than adequate for me regarding bass, I like hip hop and dance etc, I do listen to Rock and some pop too and the speakers handle all genres well. The plus side is that they take 150Watts each so I'm thinking of adding a power amp to my set up to get the full power out of the speakers.

Strength:

Everything is just super. The size is just right for our living room. Fits well next to the TV. I was listenng to COLD PLAY.

Weakness:

I've only had it for a week. Can't find anything wrong yet. Keep you posted. Price 500 UK pounds

I first bought the MS906, I took it home they were great but something was missing. I wanted more BASSSS. I went back to the shop and got the MS908. The living room opened up, the sound is just great with enough BASS in the background.

Strength:

Pure, open sound staging. Extremely natural vocals, strong on accoustic guitar. Incredibly taut and controlled bass.

Weakness:

Take a LOT of running in and quite sensitive to positioning. Stick with 'em!

I purchased these last spring to celebrate my divorce..... And what a celebration! I auditioned the Yamaha NS200, Mission M74 and Eltax Liberty 7. At first I was steering towards the natural vocals offered by the NS200 until the manager of the store spotted that the MS906 I was listening to had yet to be run in. After a swift swap for an older pair, the decision was made for me. A truly impressive openness and clarity, with all earlier traces of harshness in the treble vanished. After running my own pair in at home I would offer the following advice. 1. Mass-load the bottom of the cabinet with sand 2. use Blue-tac to remove the grills protecting the tweeters 3. A pair of socks in the lower rear ports can take the edge off any over-excitable bass. I live in a 300year old cottage so high ceilings are unheard off, making tuning of bass-ports a must. Mid you, the walls are 2 foot thick so I don't have problems with the neighbours. I have been running these speakers with an Arcam Alpha 8R and will shortly be adding a DiVA P75 to Bi-amp. Am I looking forward to that!

Strength:

-dynamic range -possibility to fill them up (with sand, etc) to make them more heavy (not possible with the 908''s, also not needed they weigh a ton!)

Weakness:

-bass deepness is missing

I listend to these "boys" because at the time the 908''s were not availible to listen to. The dynamics of these speakers is unbelievable, they can handle all kinds of music. But i also listend to the 908''s later... then it becomes clear that you miss something... the deeper and clearer bass... The 906''s are very very good... but if you have money to spare CHOOSE THE 908''S !!

Strength:

Build quality, clarity, depth, value for money

Weakness:

That word is not in the MS906''s dictionary.

After owning my old speakers for almost 10 years and upgrading everything BUT my speakers I decided it was time for a change. The looks of the MS906 was the first thing that grabbed me. I was familiar with MS''s rep as a speaker firm and I had no qualms in taking the 906 home, even if I had the weeks lee-way to take them back if I didn''t like them. Obviously with a large burn in period they didn''t over-impress the first few hours so the grill went on the front to calm some of the harshness brand new speakers have. The sound is large, confident but not muddled. I have a varied music taste and it copes with different styles of music magnificently as well as being in my opinion, very good value for the quality and finish you get for your £. And they work well in a small room which is unusual in a giant floorstander.

Strength:

Ultra detailed, good fit and finish, soundstage

Weakness:

Spikes difficult to install

That $800 US is approximate, calculated from the $1216 CND I paid.

Initially I wanted the Mirage OM series for their soundstage, but reconsidered - that open, musical 'Omnipolar' sound was too much of a leap, and might not be appreciated after a while. After listening to the PSB Image series and Paradigm 60, I was willing to spend the extra cash and for the slightly superior sound of the 60. Then the sales guy suggested the Mordaunt-Shorts. After going back and forth between the 906s and the 60s, I began to notice that I preferred the sound of the MS over the Paradigms. Female voices sounded better at high volumes, and the midrange was also a little superior. Bass was similar, in my view. The 906s were over $100 less, so it was no contest.

After getting them home and listening to a greater variety of CDs, I noticed the treble is a little strident on some recordings. Since I only notice this occasionally, I attribute it to a combination of the slightly bright nature of my Yamaha RX-V390 and recordings with lots of treble. It can be fixed by lowering the treble slightly, but its not much of a problem so I don't bother. Plus, after 50 hours break-in the treble has tamed a bit. I plan to get a Marantz receiver soon, and I expect the warmer sound of the Marantz to compliment these speakers nicely.
