Strength:
Smooth but detailed sound without any treble harshness. In a small room bass is suficiently extended and very tight. Stereo imaging is very good, they present a well focused and wide soundstage.
Weakness:
I suposed they might sound harsh if parterned with harsh sounding CD players or amps. Should be placed around 20cm away from back wall for better imaging. I bought these speakers on half-price promotion for my bedroom system. They have a very open sound that suits accoustic music very well (classical & jazz). Vocals sound very natural and they have excelent imaging. I use them with a Cambridge Audio A1mk3SE and CD300SE and this combination works very very well. I had same issue, as I had Inifnity RS-425 reference series. The RS425 are huge and bass full.Make sure you bi-wire the 771e and you will get much better bass response, especially with music. For Home Theatre, though, they need to be direct rears and even if you get other Mission fronts, get a SUB like the AVR550S for ONLY $299 at J&R. This will make a system that is outstanding as the sum of its parts work in concert. |

771e is basically an enhanced version of 771. I simply like its ability to provide clarity of vocal and mid-band. Listening female vocals or saxophone/trumpet is a joy with this pair of speakers. However, bass is relatively weak compared to my old Infinty speakers. |
