Lovely sounding little speakers, give them a good pair of stands and put them close to the walls, and you end up with something rather wonderful.Definately worth auditioning if you're on a budget.
The i's have better bass than the older models.
Remove the covers, for the real listening experience.

My system :
CD : Pioneer PD65
AMP : NAD 3140
SPKR : Mission 760 i

Four stars in the category for small, budget quality speaker.

Strength:

Terrific high and mid response. Compact dynamic sound with huge ambiance and high presicion soundstage.

Weakness:

Can sound to fast and direct for some ears. Not too suitable for large scale orchestrations.

The mission's are an ideal choice for those who want high quality soundreproduction for a small price.

The high quality units (Woofer and tweeter) are connected via high quality neutral sounding crossovernetworks. The cabinet is small and therefore it will not resonate. (ultra rigid)

The sound is very precise and direct. The soundstage is set out nice around the speakers. As with any quality speaker the speakers do not act as point sources. There is no trace of sharpness in the high range and the mid range is fast, compact and accurate sounding. Although it is a bookshell speaker, these speakers need a rigid stand and a firm wall behind and beside the speakers. But for the money still a lot of value!

They need a quality amp and cd player!! My system:

Cambridge Audio P50 Integrated amp.
Modified Nakamichi BX-1 Cass. deck.
Modified Yamaha CDX-580 CD player.

Strength:

Nice mid-range and highs. Sounds clear, value for money

Weakness:

Bass, but what can you expect in this price range from small speakers

I use this speaker as rear speakers in my HT system. I could get them for free from my dad. He isn't an audio enthousiast and since he bought a new system with 2 new speakers (ASW not too bad at all) he had 2 speakers too much. I did have a Dolby pro-logic amp but no rear and center at that time (he, I was only a student). So he asked me if I would like to have his "old" speakers for rear speakers. I could chose between these Missions and the Jamo Graduate One. The Jamo's where one year younger and had more bass. But they didn't sound clear in the mid-range. And the tweeter was also a bit more harsh then the Missions. For rear speakers you don't need bass, so the descission was easy to make. And the 760 fitted better by my fronts, Mission 735.

Now I do have a very good center and I still like the 760 as rears. For rear speakers in a system with Mission fronts these are better then 73s.
4 stars because of the lack of bass if you use them as main speakers. 5 stars for value. Really good price!
My amp: Kenwood K-AV7700

Strength:

Price.

Weakness:

Almost everything.

My dad had bought Cerwin Vega speakers, which sound aweful. He doesn't care much about sound, just brand name. He gave me his Missions. He had only used them once in a while for surround. I took them home and connected them to my Amp. The sound that came out of them was really offensive. They don't sound very lively, or musical. And they hardly played bass. I'm not yet an audiophile, but I could still tell they sounded really bad. I compared them to some old Accusound speakers I had, (which probobly were from late 70's early 80's). I'm not even sure if Accusound exists anymore. But when I compared them to the Missions, the old Accusounds sounded so much better. At the moment I'm making my own set of speakers. I have two 600w woofers (with 150oz magnet), which my uncle designed, 2 really nice mids, and 2 Dynaudio tweeters. And those sound way so much better than the cheap Accusounds, I shouldn't even compare them. To me, those Missions are just little toys. I ended up giving them away. If you like the brand name, and don't care much about sound quality, then they're probobly a good buy. But to me, my alarm clock almost sounded better than the Missions!
