A product worthy of the 'Hall of Fame' in this site, so I figured I'd post here. I came across a pair of 2nd handers for $350 and dont regret this at all. In a listening setup with reference amp and cd player, these were in the top echelon amongst lots of speakers, most of them over $400/pr.
Its hard (for me anyway) to make out which products are 'better' then others in the 'these sound good to me' catagory, because essentially speakers of a certain quality group simply sound different and picking a pair is perhaps more a matter of taste.

Anyhow, excellent value for money, very very straight bass representation, good highs, fairly bad grille setup.

Strength:

Great with vacal music. Awesome midrange.

Weakness:

Imaging could be better. Shallow soundstage.

Like alot of others I've noticed, I'm reviewing something that is on it's way out of my system! I have used, pampered, and enjoyed these speakers for about three years now. About this time every year I become a regular fixture at my local Hi-Fi shops looking for a cost effective replacement for what I already own (sound familiar?). Only now, with a larger budget and more credit cards, has the price / benefit
ratio been worth the upgrade. To my ears there is nothing close to the Mission speakers until you spend twice the money. If you listen to mostly pop or rock music these are the perfect budget high end speakers. As my musical tastes have changed to mostly Jazz, the Missions have revealed their weaknesses. These speakers can simply not reproduce the soundstage at the extremes, i.e. small club feel or a large classical hall.
Although all my listning has been in two channel, I imagine these would make fine front ends for a home theatre set up.
These Missions have been used for three years with Adcom's GTP-450 pre amp and GFA-535 power amp. A little more power could go a long way to solving some of the soundstage problems I've had. Overall though, for the money you may be hard pressed to do any better.

Strength:

Very good fot its price

Weakness:

hard to find information about mission

40 years ago speakers made in Great Britain and U.S.A. had the reputation to be the best. Today I think they have the same reputation. A few years ago my home made 3-way loudspeaker system came out of use. Whith a limited budget my wife and I where looking for a new set. But how to compare a whole collection of manufactors? We took one of our favorite CD-recording and went to five stores. There we asked to play them, first I asked to bring the treble and bass of the amplifier to the middle point. What a experience! Most sellers even don't hear the diference! The harder the boom bass the better the loudspeaker!!. Maybe it is because we are lovers of baroque music that our ears are trained in an other way? It was not hard for us to make a first selection: pure sound where found by great names made in U.S.A. and Great Britain... but some at amazing high prices. The last decision was hard, 2 British speakers came in competition. The one sound a bit better in the lower tones, but he was above our budget. I never heard about Mission. For the middle and the high tones -Violin, Oboe, Flute and even baroque organ- the unknown Mission did it every good, just a lack of bass. Once at home I filled the box whith sand, and unbelievable, but he became a perfect competitor for his double priced concurent!

Strength:

outstanding sound with some tricks see below

Weakness:

a bit low on details

I have MISSION 733i version which has a better tweeter, and it is bi wireable. Use the spikes! The performance of the speaker can be drammatically improved, if the lower cabinet is filled with quartz sand. You can also CHANGE the poor CABLES to some better brands inside the speaker. The results: true bass without booms, better 3D space;much better details;sound quality like if it would worth twice as its price 330 pounds.
