Strength:

Apart from durability, none

Weakness:

Where do I start? Bright, sibilent, lack of depth, muddled soundstage, lack of balance or timing, dreadful little boxes.

I bought a NAD 3020 and some Mission 700 LE speakers about 15 years ago. In all that time I blamed the amp for the excessive sibilance, brightness, and general lack of coherance that was my daily listening experience (Wisdom at the time said that the NAD 3020 was supposed to be "bright"). I recently bought some Tannoy Revolution R2's. Stunning speakers, beautiful to listen to, completely natural and balanced sound.. (I have posted separate review on these). So now the NAD is forgiven, and elevated to "classic" status. The Missions??.. Maybe I will use them as plant pots, after forcibly removing the drivers. Total rubbish.

Strength:

Impressive bass for the size. pretty to look at and well made.

Weakness:

for fifty quid !! nothing at all!!

Due to Mission not making them anymore Richer Sounds are knocking these out for £50 at the moment(£70 off)....I thought I'd try them with my bedroom set up, a room about 15ft x 12ft....and wow....for speakers at this price they are simply superb. I have auditioned / owned many bookshelf speakers in the £100-£150 price band and these destroy the competition. For a relatively small box I cannot beleive the bass they give out and vocals sound superb. I use them with a Cambridge audio A5mk3 and Nad 521i CD and when you crank up the volume they handle everything you throw at them. They may get lost in a much larger room but for a bedroom / small living room they fill the space superbly with clear vocal, crisp highs and the bass is suprisingly good. I have to say upon hearing them and running them in fully I would have paid full price for them, no problem at all. A very impreeive little speaker.

Strength:

Surprising bass for the size. Good clarity.

Weakness:

None

Bought these to hook up to a 125w/ch Nakamichi because they fit on my bookshelves and the company generally gets good reviews on it's products. They are very good. The bass is surprisingly good for the size. Classical is excellent in the range that these speakers reproduce. I no longer have the spec sheet but it sounds like they go down to about 50hz or so, based on the sounds that are there or missing from music that I am familier with. I have some more expensive stuff in the movie room, and even though I haven't compared them in a strictly controlled environment (i.e. same room, same placement, same ... everything else) these sound better for music than the tower/surround movie setup.

Strength:

Big bass, small box

Weakness:

not quite as clear sounding as some.

I bought these speakers to replace a pair of B&W 601''s The B&W''s did not suit my system well (Technics Cd, Marantz PM55SE amp) and produced little bass. These missions are great. They are very warm-sounding and produce loads of base for the size box. The first pair of 700''s I bought needed replacing because the cabinet bracing was faulty, the replacement pai have been fine. I have now upgraded my system to a Home Theater using a Yamaha DSP E-800. They work well for this, but you definately need a subwoofer for movie use.

Strength:

Crisp highs. These speakers are excellent for the price, they play a multitude of musical styles and perform well as rear speakers for an HT system. The speakers project well without sounding too bright, or muffled. I paid approximately 250$ canadian for the speakers. The speakers fill the room with sound that is crisp and clear. All around an excellent speakers. Not a speaker to buy if your looking for a Bassmeiter speaker.

Weakness:

Bass, The speakers specs on the website claim that it can reach down to 60 hertz however I have not heard these speakers project bass at that level well. The bass performance improves when the speakers are placed against a wall, as well as the general sound. I have owned these speakers for nearly two years now and they are fantastic however, after approximately 6 months one of the cables leading from the back of the cone to the front came undone and I had to get a new woofer. I installed the woofer myself and now at nearly any volume it vibrates off the grill when the grill is on. The speakers need to be placed against a wall to project sound well, hard to find a place to put them where they sound excellent otherwise.

good highs, good for rear HT, good for most styles of music

Weak bass, speaker vibrates off grill. Hard to find a correct placement (they need a wall to project sound well)

Strength:

Good, clarity, sweet treble decent bass

Weakness:

Dont expect miracle

My brother just bought this speakers 2 weeks ago. After being heavily influnce by my mission sound, we scouted around for mission dealers in malaysia. My personal system comprises of Micromega stage 1, Linn Majik line 1 and Mission 752 with audiquest quartz and ixos 604 cables.
I have to admit that the 700 series is a close competitor to my 752 (execept for the bass dept and sounstaging) and i am VERY impressed. We tested these speakers with :-
a) source :- i) Mission Dad 5 cdp,
ii)Micromega Stage 1,
iii) Sony Hifi Nicam VCR
iv)Sony Play Station

b) Control Amp :- i) Sony Digital AVR- Receiver (forgot the series )
ii) Linn Majik Line 1.
iii) Audiolab S and PX.

The clarity and the midrange can be described as sweet and soulful. I have tried with couple of acoustics recordings, it tend to give that good soundstaging for a stand mounter. With female vocals it is quite enhancing and the vocals of Joan Armstrong, Karen Black and Sade giving that penetrating effect that would stir echoes right to your back bone. With up beat music e.g Eagles and Santana it manages to give good separation and that of stereo imaging.

Well for USD 230.00 it is a VERY good buy, the only setback is on the bass department but does it matter. We justify the matter by getting a locally made speaker stand and sand filled the stand, blue tacks and properly adjusting the spike. As for positioning like all other mission speakers it is not that difficult, as long as it is 1-1.5" from the walll and at least 2.5 meters apart it should be ok.

I wopuld seriouly suggest the 700 for any new entry user, it can be used as straight hi-fi, front and rear for any av set-up and even you would not believe this, i even tested it as a centre speaker and it could do just nicely. mission 700 is fun speakers for serious sound.

Strength:

GREAT SOUND FOR A OW BUGDET SPEAKER.

Weakness:

BASED IS TAME AT TIMES.

I BOUGHT THESE SPEAKERS 2 MONTHE A GO FOR 130 POUNDS, AND HAVE FOUND THEM VERY ENJOYABLE UNTIL I PLAYED A TRACK BY UNDERWORLD (BUTTERFISH ALBUM). WHEN THE BASS KICKS IN THE SPEAKER MAKES A STRANGE VIBRATION SOUND FROM THE MID SPEAKER, THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN ON ALL LARGE BASS SOUNDS OVERALL THIS DISAPPOINTS ME AND TURNS ME OFF THE SPEAKERS.

Found these speakers gathering dust in my garage right about the time I was looking to buy some Monitor 1s or Event 20/20s. I don't know what kind of person would have the heart to abandon these excellent speakers, but I suspect he or she may have unexpectadly gone deaf, thereby being no longer able to enjoy the clean, even sound that they produce. Minus one point for handling only 6 Ohms.
