Users complaining about problems with this sub, e.g. can't get high volume because it rattles, etc., should be aware that this is a SEALED sub. ANY air leak will dramatically affect its performance.

So, get rope caulk from the hardware store, take out the driver and preferably amp plates in the back, put rope caulk around so that it will stop air leaks from the edges and any other screw holes, board chipping, etc., then tighten all screws evenly. This sub relies on what is called ACOUSTIC SUSPENSION for a reason. Without it, the cone is going to flab in the open air like crazy and you will hear all kinds of funny noises. Good luck.

You get these things so cheap today, because everyone is getting rid of them thinking they are faulty, but if you know the trick, you get a nice sub with a tight bass response for pennies. I personally like sealed boxed more than ported.

Strength:

Good looks. Decent when watching movies

Weakness:

Cannot handle much. Distorts bass. Not a music related sub.

I do not own this product, my roomate does. Today I was jamming out some P.O.D on his Yamaha receiver with JBL speakers and this subwoofer. After 10 minutes and being on and loud the sub blew. The speaker went. The floor wasn't even shaking. This sub is a piece of junk. My Optimus sub sounds 30 times better and it only cost 50 bucks.

Strength:

good looks - small footprint

Weakness:

boomy - easily distorts

I bought this sub to complete my Mirage surround system. I bought my system piece by piece, and this piece is plain terrible. If you're buying a sub for looks, this sub is for you. If you want a sub with a clean tight punch, stay away from this one. I couldn't be more disappointed. I bought this sub on a close-out and can't return it. If I try to drive this sub at all, it quickly breaks up. If you're considering purchasing this sub, look to a higher end Mirage (perhaps the BPS 150).

Weakness:

sounds boomy

I have the sub hooked up to an Onkyo 656 digital receiver. I have Mirage OM-10's as my left and right speakers. I can't seem to get the tight bass I am looking for. I can only turn the level up to about 2 or 3 before the bass is severely distorted. I have tried every placement imaginable and have tried virtually every setting but can't seem to get it right. If anyone has any suggestions please reply back to this column. Right now I am not very happy with this sub.

I received this sub as a present from my brother (audio enthusiast) to complement our home theater set up. I couldn't be more pleased! DVDs sound awesome. Lots of base without sounding boomy. And not bad looking either.

The PS-10 is the perfect compliment to your home theatre. It may not be the most powerful powered sub on the market but unless you are running a cineplex, this baby can put out all you could possibly want. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from a non-expensive product.

The Mirage BPS-150i is the winner of all subwoofers in the high end subwoofer category. The BPS Powered Subwoofer is a Bi-Polar design that contains (2) 8 inch long throw subwoofers. Each woofer is located on the sides of the subwoofer enclosure. The build quality of this subwoofer is rigid and tasteful. Rates frequency response is 22-100 Hz. The Amplifier section of this subwoofer is 150 Watts RMS and maximum 600 watts. Because the subwoofer resides n a sealed encloser, the bass is extremely tight in music and incrediblly loud in DVD movies.

I bought the Mirage PS-10 subwoofer to round out my hometheater system with the low end kick I like in movies and music. The subwoofer itself only has a 10" driver but its specs are pretty damn good:>10" woofer
>100 watt RMS built-in amp
>400 watt peak amp power
>line level and speaker level inputs
>28Hz-100Hz frequency responce.
The subwoofer is finished in a nice, but common black ash finish. The cabinate is acoustically sealed so you would not expect for it to put out that much bass...well it outs out that and more. For its size, it is a damn good subwoofer. I think anyone who buys it for their hometheater system will be very impressed and satisfied. The only problem I have with it is because of the size of the cabinate and only being a 10" driver, it can sometimes bottom out when playing very bass-heavy music, such as some electric jazz tunes, rap, and very bass-heavy movies at high SPLs. For this it gets a "4" rating, but it is one of the best subwoofers I have ever heard and I would recomend it over most other subwoofers for the price.

Strength:

The speaker is good-looking and would fit into any decor as its appearsnce is not intrusive. It has just the right "oomph" and can, of course, be adjusted to suit one's own tastes. It is well-priced for the product.

Weakness:

My connection is by way of a sub pre-out on the receiver (a Pioneer VSX-504S); i.e. RCA to RCA. The connection is somewhat sensitive as any jarring on the subwoofer end of the connection produces enormous feedback to the point where it sound like the speaker may blow. Note: this occurs even when no sound is being pumped through it.

This is an excellent speaker for a home theatre set-up. The bass is tight and can be adjusted to one's own taste. It is also excellently suited for music applications. This sub would not be suited for someone wanting to "shake the floor". It has obviously been designed for moderate applications. This subwoofer is in keeping with the Mirage line of products. It is a high-end product for the discriminating listener. The speakers are not meant to be driven to capacity for booming effects. I have my system mated with front Mirage SM-3s. These speakers are almost twenty years old. I have an Energy centre channel and Energy rears. Coincidentally, the Energy product with which I compared this Mirage at the time had the exact same specifications. Obviously, since Mirage and Energy are made by the same company, the speakers were the same with only the nameplate being different. I would recommend this speaker.

Similar Products Used:

I have not used similar subs as this is my first one. However, I did do comparison shopping. Given that my application for this sub was to be in a home theatre set-up, I wanted a compatible product so ended up concentrating on the Mirage and Energy product lines.
