Strength:

Magnificient soundstage, impeccable instrument placing. The sweetspot is wonderfully large so you can quite sit anywhere. Has impressed all fellow enthusuasts used to point source speakers to no end.

Weakness:

Sound wise none for me. The floor spikes need to be given serious thought as well as a few QC problems.

Minor problems aside, these are wonderful speakers which the point-source crowd need to give a fair listen to after a night at their favourite live concert. These speakers are equally good with all types of music, and after breaking in fo over 300 hours now, play wonderfully soft as well as as loud as you could ever want. Apart from the strange and inconvenient floor spikes, the front wooden side strips are coming unglued, beginning at the bottom,(see Mark's review 8/16/10). Maybe here in the tropics its a climate problem- but other speakers don't have it. I have reglued and they look okay for now, but Mirage needs to address this as well as the spike feet. For the price - 5 stars

Strength:

After a year, these are still the best speakers I have heard, period!

Weakness:

I question its build quality..see below

I have had these om7s' for about a year now and they have never failed to impress me with their great sound,however........after a year the high-gloss "strips" on the left and right sides of both speakers has started to peel..the glue that was used failed! Also, the ports on the rear of both speakers have also come un-glued. I will not drop the rating of these speakers, but mirage should take note of this quality issue. I have re-glued them myself.

Strength:

Very open, articulate, and liquid sounding loudspeaker when used with system described below. Never agressive, conveys the emotion of music beautifully.

Weakness:

None

I stumbled upon these loudspeakers (and the rest of the system... read on) purely by accident, when I recently went to my local hi-fi shop to audition the latest electronics from Bryston.

What started out as a desire to hear a 3B-ST amplifier and BP-20 preamplifer, turned out to be the most enjoyable musical experience in my 20 years as an audiophile.

As I waited for the salesperson to help me, I steppped into one of the sound-rooms to have a look around. In there, I saw a pair of Mirage OM-7 loudspeakers, hooked up to an Audio Refinment Complete amplifier and Complete CD player. I thought to myself, "hmmm... these speakers look interesting." I was familiar with the names of all components before me, though I had never had the opportunity to hear them before that day.

The sales person entered the room and I told him I was interested in hearing the Bryston equipment, but could I have a quick listen to the Audio Refinement/Mirage combination first. "No problem" he said as he slipped the Enrique Iglesias disc I brought with me into the CD player. I use this CD because, in addition to being HDCD encoded (most of the songs, anyway), it has huge dynamic swings and a good combination of acoustic and electrical instruments, and can really exploit a systems resolving capabilities. Try it out next time you audition equipment. "Track number 3," I said.

It didn't take but the first few notes for me to realize something special was happening. I sat there, immediately drawn into the wonderful sounds being reproduced in front of me. Sounds without any glare, stridency, or hardness normally associated with inferior solid state electronics. The tonal balance was warm without being dark, the detail apparent without being analytical; the overall sound was the most liquid I had ever heard before. Not forward or recessed, just there.

The real acid test for me isn't about hearing subtle nuances, clinical details, or see-through transparency. These artifacts are just as much a product of the recording as from the equipment playing them. No, the real acid test for me is one of presence and emotion; do I believe the artist is standing there in front of me playing his/her heart out... can I feel it.

In the case of the Mirage/Audio Refinment combination the answer is an unequivocal, yes. I have never been so moved by the sound of an audio system before hearing this one. In all the time this system was playing I never once thought of its sound, per-se, I was too captivated by the music to be critical. Its ability to impart an emotional response to the listener is uncanny, and one I will not soon forget.

To make a long story (too late, I know) short, I didn't bother to hear the bryston components. I knew this was the system for me, regardless of price.

It is most gratifying, especially after more than 20 years of listening to music critically, that for the first time I can truly sit down and just listen for enjoyment, and not worry about what's playing it.

Enormous soundstage, perfect imaging ..

Weakness:

I've had these speakers for just over a month and don't realize how I've lived without them! I honestly can say that I haven't quite heard anything sound this good in my listening room. I have a very large, open high ceiling room and no speakers have been able to fill the room with such beautiful sound until now. The sweet spot is SO large you can sit most anywhere and enjoy them. Excellent for music listening and home theater/movies as well. I won't be buying new speakers for many many years to come!

This is one beautiful speaker, from its looks to its sound.
I replaced my om10s(which i moved to the back as my rears)
And the soundstage now is simply stunning. The om7s are an improvment in every way over the 0m10s. Clarity, crisp highs, defined mids and lows...who could ask for more?

Great sound,

Weakness:

After searching for the right speakers for over a year, when I heard these the search was over. I couldn't believe the sound coming from these speakers. The depth is great. The music just fills the room. Worth every penny. I've listen to the B&W 602s and Meridian, they were nice but nice impressive. These impressed me. The first speaker I heard that I could tell a huge Difference, and alot cheaper then the others. If you want great speakers these are the ones.

My system
Toshiba CN36X81 TV
Toshiba SD 6200 DVD
Denon AVR 3801 Receiver
Mirage OM 7 fronts
The surround not worth speaking of.
Will soon be getting The Omr2 surround and the Omc3 center

I finally got home from the road recently and figured out that the Tweeter Etc salesman messed up. My receipt says Mirage OM6's. I have Om-7's. This explains the reason I got them for under $800. Still love them and they are working flawlessly. I wish I could give them an 8 for value at the price I paid :)
