Strength:

Absolutely the best sounding sub on the market for the money. Forget the fact it's only 8''. It sttod up to the Klipsch 440 watt 12''. Listen for yourself before you buy if you don;t take my word and 12 others in this review forum's word for it.

Weakness:

No weaknesses. Just make note that there are two inputs on the back. I had to plug mine in to the top input which I think bypasses the crossover. One of the inputs did not give it full power. The other worked. Just try each one to see which works best with your system. You do have to turn it up nearly all of the way as a "standard setting" but this is not a weakness, just a spot on the control knob! Once you get about 80% to 90% full volume, your windows are already rattling.

I own a Bose Lifestyle 8 system that rocks. The highs and mids sound incredible, however, the sub compoent on the system is a little weaker than I expected. Fortunately, this sweet little system is quite versatile allowing you to add speakers, subs, amps, etc. provided you have enough available ports in the back. I decided to add a sub woofer. I decided to bite the bullet and invest in a sub worthy of this Bose system. So naturally I did what any sound nut would have done and that is set out to but a 10'' or 12'' Klipsch. I was NOT looking forward to paying $400-$700. I walked into Hi Fi Buys and listened to Boston Acoustics 10'' and 12" as well as the Klipsch 10'' and 12'' and the Mirage FRX-S8. The Klipsch definitely performs if you can cut loose of $650. I would have forwned at the salesman if he were to suggest an 8'' sub to me at first. However, when I heard the Mirage FRX-S8, compared side by side, all other system components, amps equal, it ROCKED! For half the price this 8'' thumped! So much in fact that I could not justify an extra $300 to go with the Klipsch as much as I wanted to. The Boston Acoustics was nice but also more expensive and did not sound as nice as the Mirage. I have be honest, I have never even heard of Mirage. I am pretty much a Bose and Boston Acoustics fan as far as speakers go. So, take it from me, for the money, some of the supposed better 10'' and 12'' subs can't touch this piece of equipment! Between the Mirage and the factory Bose sub, my system rattles the windows!

Strength:

Huge Power for such a small sub, amazing in home-cinema, very good in music too.

Weakness:

Still not found one.

This little wonder really goes low, and it has a huge power for such a small sub, it rattles my door, windows, floor and sofa, and upsets my neighbours too. :)
It shines in home-cinema and it's very good in music too.
If you have a small room buy this subwoofer, you wont regret it.

Here is my home-cinema system:

TV: Sony KV-25X5
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V595
Front Speakers: Tannoy Mercury M2.5
Center Speaker: B&W Solid C100
Rear Speakers: B&W Solid S100
Subwoofer: Mirage FRx-S8 (Off course :)
DVD Player: Creative Dxr2 (Connected to the TV and Receiver)

Strength:

tight and fast

Weakness:

no phase options and no speaker out

Got a S8 to do some fill for my Mirage M3's. I have a DefTech TL15 sub also but it just wasn't fast enough for music. Good for the bottom on HT but not too fast at about 80-100hz range. Tried the S8 and boy it fill the range well, so good that I got two of them. Both set at 60hz and about mid point vol. The M3's can handle everything above that with ease. The S8 don't really go lower then the M3's but they just add that meat to the bass. You can't really hear them in most situations. They just add that gut punch that was missing with the M3's even tho they don't really go much lower. The DefTech is now set at its lowest 40hz to handle the really low bottom for HT. The two S8 just adds that realistic punch to a standup acoustic base that just sounds right. Listen to Diane Kralls' CD's. the Bass just "FEELS" and sound right with the two S8 hooked up.

I really liked the sound of this sub. I've got quite a large room and it handled it no problem - plenty of power even for its small size. In fact I think it killed my goldfish!

Strength:

A Very low and punchy bass for a 8-incher,Excellent power reserve.

Weakness:

No indication of power status on front panel.

This is a strong little subwoofer as far as power and solid punchy bass, especially on music once you get the crossover and level set.I think using the external crossover feature allows for a smoother transition between it and my Mirage avs-500 speakers.I am using a Sony str-333 Es for Movies and Music. This is probably going to be one of the most underrated subs because of it's small driver and but as I am concerned the build quality and sound denotes a subwoofer that is much more exspensive than it is .P.S. thinking about getting a second one.

Strength:

Great price, nice tight unobtrusive sound, nice build quality

Weakness:

Probably can't shake the foundations like a 1000 watt 15 incher, but I live in an apartment anyway.

I just picked this sub up ($320 CDN, or a shade over $200US).

The rest of my system:
Denon PCD-615 single CD player
Harmon Kardon HK3270 receiver
Mission 751 speakers (small, but very nice)

I was a little disappointed at first. I thought to myself, "I can't even *hear* the sub". But listening to cuts like Rush's "Limelight" was a delightful surprise. Geddy's bass guitar part during the guitar solo immediately assumed much more clarity. Without the sub, parts of it sounded like a low mumble before. I could guess what the bass was doing, but I couldn't quite hear it. With the sub, I could easily hear and follow every note and slide. Neil's kick drum immediately took on a bit more punch, weight, and definition....perfectly complementing the rest of his drum sound without overwhelming it.

That's the point. You're not supposed to *hear* the sub, you're supposed to hear more of the music.

I am very pleased. This sub is doing exactly what I wanted it to do.... put more musical detail into the bottom two registers of music, without being audible or boomy (or expensive). I have a smallish listening room in an apartment, and I listen to much more music than home theatre, so having tons of window rattling bass was not the priority. The specs say it goes down to 29Hz (-3dB). That's low enough for me (bottom 'E' on a bass guitar is 42Hz), and as for volume, it cranks past the point that my neighbors can tolerate, while staying tight and smooth.

Overall, the integration with the Missions is seamless (settings are 54Hz crossover, and volume 6). You wouldn't know I have a subwoofer, you'd just know my system sounds nice, with every instrument from the lows to the highs coming in nice and clear.

At the price, I'm delighted. I was auditioning $700CDN subs, and I'm glad I didn't bother. Unless you are very serious about having your home theatre shake your fillings loose, or you're an 18-year-old rap fan, don't let a salesman tell you that an 8-inch sub is too small. (Most audio salesmen are deaf to any sound but their cash registers.) This sub is too small to blow the roof off... but it's the perfect size to make musical bass.

Strength:

Completely fills our largish living/dining room. We've never cranked it beyond 1/3-1/2.

Weakness:

None that I've found.

Floods the house with a delicious thump during movies, and adds great bass during any kind of music. Glad we didn't fall prey to the 10" model -- not at all necessary. Works great in our Mirage FRx-Center, FRx-Rear dipole Surrounds, 8" FRx-S8 Subwoofer and FRx-Three bookshelf Fronts. http://www.miragespeakers.com/

Strength:

Powerful and quick. I like the small footprint of the sub.

Weakness:

A little muddy, compared to more expensive subs. Only hits 29hz, but that's to be expected given the 8 inch woofer.

Very nice sub overall. It fills the bottom end nicely - continues seamlessly where my main speakers leave off. It lacks the clarity of more expensive subs, but we're talking much, much more expensive models. I'm using it in my college system. The details are as follows:

Speakers: PSB Alpha Mini's
Sub: Mirage FRX-S8
Amplification: old Sony receiver/amp (freebie)
Source: SB AWE 64 (CD's, mp3's, movies, you name it...)

Strength:

Small, produces big bass sound

Weakness:

Doesn't go to 5 Hz, but still does good

This is my first subwoofer. It was recommended to me by a
saleman at a local audio store (not a chain). They also sell marantz and infinity subs. But this small sub can
rock my 15ft by 27 ft room with deep, powerful, low bass.
Amazing for sub a smaller sub. I am pleased as I only
paid $250 for it. Recommend, espeically if you don't want
something large taking up space but still want big sound.
My rating is based on what you get for $250 and the small
size of the unit.
