Strength:

Modest cost, non fatiguing sound.

Weakness:

need for proper placement.

I bought one pair of the M590i in the fall of 96 and the another pair in the fall of 97 to be used as rear surrounds. These replaced my polk sda bookshelf speakers. I found them to give a more spacious sound than the polks. These speakers worked well until I moved to a house where the architecture no longer was amenable to proper placement. These speakers have a reserved quality in terms of presentation and required a sub to bring out any lower bass frequencies with the system I was using at the time. My best desciption of their sound would be that listening to them is like being 3/4 of the way back in a concert hall that is full to capacity. If you want to hear the sound from the front row then you should look elsewhere. At their best these speakers reproduce midrange frequencies very well if you enjoy the sense of "non directionality" that bipolar speakers seem to offer the listener. I used a Sony GA7ES reciever and Sony DA1ES cd player with these speakers.
