Strength:

Great efficiency. L_o_w bass. Reasonably fast. Pounds like a kid''s car sub if you want it to. Nice cabinet. Downfiring woofers out of children''s reach. Mac name.

Weakness:

Huge.

This is my last subwoofer. I finally got my fill of upgrading, so I went with one that had "ultimate" performance in pretty much every area. I still have an upgrade path--now I can fool with amps and crossovers and such. Right now I''m pushing it with the RBH sub amp--very underrated at 200 watts, but still doesn''t begin to explore the massive potential of this speaker. But right now, as she sits, I have better bass than I had with my M & K push-pull unit. This amazes me, since the MX-70 is SUCH a good woofer. The HT2 is a large presence in the room, though not quite as tall as the upright M & K. Right now it''s kind of an "end table" to the sofa, trying to minimize its obtrusiveness. It is black, and much nicer looking than the crinkle black M & K finish. Plus, since the M & K is a forward-firing speaker, the down-firing Mac is less accessible to children than the grilled M & K. Think about that if you will have small children constantly in your home--If your sub''s woofers are on the bottom, there''s no grill for little fingers to snag or break, and the crumb crunchers can''t get at the cones or the surrounds to poke pens through. Perfect family sub. Can''t wait to put some real power to this baby. When I can get a processor with true bass management facilities to act as a crossover, then I might try running it with a large class D amp capable of close to its rated power handling of 800 watts. One more thing: the bass-reflex design of the HT2''s massive cabinet by its nature causes a steep rolloff of bass energy below 20 Hz. The payoff is efficiency, but if you''re looking for a sub that can reach down low into the inaudible infrasonic range--something that can stop grandma''s heart--you might want to look at some of the sealed-cabinet, very large multiple-woofer setups. This thing may not get into the physiology-altering frequencies, but it will pump your heart for you.
