Positioning

I have driven my wife crazy over the last 2 years trying to put a system together that I could live with, if that is at all possible. I have had at least 14 amps and preamps and probably 19 speakers!I have a tendency to frequent stereo stores and that seems to fuel my greed! It took me several amps and preamps to make the Logans sound the way that "I" think they should, not the critics or the salesmen! I listen to my music late at night and in the dark to keep from being distracted. After about a month of experimenting with placement I finally got the positioning that suits me. When I turn these babies on they become invisible. Sound fills my room and I find myself looking and listening left and right way beyond the speakers! Imaging and soundstaging on these puppies are incredible. The voices are right there in front of you and you are surrounded with instruments that you can pinpoint. I have heard singers taking a breath before the next note that I have never heard before in other speakers! Fingers flying against the guitar strings and details that were lost in the past. I have listened to music that I thought I would never listen to because of these speakers. All the technical jargon that you hear from audio salesman is crap. If you like the sound that is the important thing. Power is critical element to the Logans because they are hungry. I'm sorry people out there are having trouble with theirs and cannot get the enjoyment that they were designed to bring. That's why they make a boat-load of other speakers!

My system:
SL3s(obviously)
Conrad Johnson MF200 (I have had this amp for three days now and my search is complete. Nice bass, sweet warm almost tube-like highs and mid range which compliments the Logans).
Jeff Rowland Consanance preamp (I am indepted to Mr. Rowland for this amazing piece!)
Meridan DVD/CD (For this I would like to thank the British!)
Meridan DAC
Z-Systems Audio Labortories In Line EQ (this is a piece from heaven, it gives you back tone controls without any distortion added to the line! Great for tweaking CDs that really suck or just add your own touch to the music, even though most stereo salesmen see this unit as some kind of audio betrayal!)

placement

I've been in love with the realistic sound of the ML hybrids ever since I first heard the Quests at the 1991CES. In '97 I finally had enough scratch to get into a ML, purchasing the Aerius i, which I very much enjoyed. About a month ago an apportunity arose which allowed me to upgrade to the now discontinued SL3 (I picked up the retailers last demo model). Basically, all the hybrids sound the same, but, the bigger models provide more, fuller sound. They all are remarkably transparent, and exceptionally accurate on small classical ensambles, acoustic jazz trios and quartets, and vocals. I just wish I had a larger room to allow the SL3's to breath more easily. Placement is critical and the sweet spot is relatively narrow. But, it's worth it!
