Strength:

Dual inputs (normal & maximum) for versatility in customizing the sound. Build quality of the speaker. Overall sound.

Weakness:

None that I have found.

These are simply the best speakers I have owned to date. Crisp, clear mids and highs are produced at even the highest volume levels. Imaging with these speakers is amazing. It's like the music is live right in front of you. Their home theater performance is also as impressive as their musical performance, however you will need a sub in both cases as they are only rated down to 77Hz. I happened to luck out and pick up a mint-condition, dealer-demo pair of these for a mere $400 + tax, so it makes them even that much sweeter. However, I was prepared to, and would have paid full price for these simply because they are worth it.

The M&K S-125's are the best, i remember when i first heard then being demo'd it was love @ first listening. The highs and midrange are as accurate as any speaker ive ever heard. This is my 4th year with these speakers and they are still delivering pure unadulturated sound from the whole audio spectrum.
Coupled with a Denon 3600/DD/DTS receiver, they bring movie audio tracks flawlessly to the listener. As for music they are just as good delivering sonic depth to the sound stage. Enveloping you as if taking part at the studio listening to a live recording. These speakers have been worth every dime and for me M&K is the only speaker.

Speaker Sytem includes
2 S-125 Left/Right
1 S-125 Center Channel
2 SS-150 THX Dippolar surrounds
2 MX-80 120w subwoofers

This is pure sound coming at you every time and its a joy owning good speakers.

Strength:

User-friendly sound.

Weakness:

None.

The M&K S-125 speakers are the front LCR of new family room/HT set-up. I first purchased a 55" R-P TV. Then, had a custom wall cabinet built to my specs (bad idea #1) to hold everything but the kitchen sink. As a compromise with my better half, I included three speaker openings (bad idea #2) across the front (with grill cloth). The best look was provided by orienting all speakers on their side (bad idea #3) with the center just above the TV and the others to the left/right about 4' off center (bad idea #4). Of course, I didn't bother to look for speakers until AFTER I had the built-in completed (bad idea #5). My design severely limited my speaker selection, duh.

In the end, however, I'm very happy with the speakers. They are limited only by my cabinet design -- sounding only slightly better out of their enclosures than in. (Yes, the grills are off and the speaker openings ARE packed with a sound deadening carpet pad material which helps a great deal.) The room is 20'x16' room with 10' ceilings. A sub was a must. I'm using M&K SS-150 Tripoles for surrounds in the rear and M&K's MX-350 sub. I doubt most applications will need that much sub, but, the room is flanked by a double doorway on one side and completely open to a large kitchen area on the other. At the dealer, I A/B tested them vs my old S-1 speakers (no sub) and others. Given my size restriction the S-125s held their own better than anything I tried. In fact, my original thought was to buy just a single S-125 for the center...but, they sounded so good, I decided to use the S-1s in another room and buy three matchers up front. At home, I do find the S-125 is a bit less three-dimensional at lower volume for my liking. Most likely due to the built-in cabinet enclosure, etc. At proper movie levels (i.e. -20 to -15 from ref level), however, no complaints. Musically, they are very pleasing, althought I don't spend much time sitting around listening to music these days. Don't be shy about checking with M&Ks tech folk, either. They are very helpful.

I recently purchased a new audio setup for our home. I wanted a systemthat could be used for both home theater and music applications. I purchased
M&K's S-125s for the LCR and surround speakers and the M&K V125THX sub. I
have been very pleased with the system! The 125s are very musical and sound
great with any type of music. Crystal clear, yet warm and seductive.
As I stated above, I also went with the 125s for the surrounds as well because
I wanted the whole system to be timbre matched for when I put my Yamaha-2095
into a DSP surround mode (an excellent product in its own right, but that is
another review). The 125s preformed equally, indeed astonishingly, well when
used for home theater - the center channel is simply amazing! All of the
speakers are sealed (including the sub)and have a very flat response. They
are also available in shielded versions (sub comes shielded). If you are
interested in both music and movies then I urge you to give M&K a listen.
Please note that M&K's THX speakers (also reviewed at this site) are specifically designed for home theater. Hence these speakers
may not sound as warm as the 125s. The 125s do come with two inputs: the
NORMAL inputs which are musical and MAXIMUM OUTPUT inputs which are a
THX like setting for more dramatic sound. With the 125s you get to choose!

Check them out - you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Very, very smooth and relaxing sound with detailed top end. Very dynamic with superb imaging. Vocals sound life-like, and extend out from the speaker. Incredibly accurate from 80hz and above but it won't tear a bad recording to shreda. They play extremely loud and clean and unlike many competitors... the S-125 is fantastic for both music and movies.

Weakness:

None for a satellite system.

The non-thx "S" series from M&K are very under-rated IMHO. They are the only speakers I know of that sound fabulous for both music and movies. For music, they are very warm and laid back, but they feature plenty of finesse, transparancy and detailed treble so they never sound dull. The upper mid range is very warm, smooth and relaxing and probably this speaker's strongest forte. Another good thing about the S-125's is that they are not extremley fussy about power. They are rated at 4 ohm, but the 91db sensativity rating will allow them to be driven with a quality receiver. I'm using an Onkyo Integra DTR-6 and it is a great match! Pair these babies with a good sub like M&K's MX-125 MK II and do will be impressed.
